  1. Scratchplates/pickguards (delete as your preference) that don't sit flush on the bass body. I can't stand it if there's a slight gap. On my p bass I had to buy a new string tree as the other one was too short and the strings sat too low, it just looked wrong. I don't like 210 cabs that only have feet so you have to have them sit with the speakers horizontally. 210s need to sit with the drivers aligned vertically. Horizontal looks daft. Too many knobs and switches that look randomly placed. Amps that overhang cabs.
  2. Setting yourself the challenge of learning a bass line note for note at home, yes, fine. Live however, not really, not note for note, I can't remember all that stuff. A lot of the bass lines we're all trying to learn were improvised there and then and even the person who played it in the studio probably doesn't play it note for note from the recording. The problem I have a lot of the time trying to learn note for note, is I just can't remember all the different slight variations from bar to bar, chorus to chorus etc. How do you remember all that?
  3. I really want to buy a cab, I've not got one at the moment (I've got a head), but I feel that right now it'd just be a wast of money and not be used for who knows how long. I'm very pessimistic about the near future. I think we're looking at a sustained period of needing social distancing and other measures to keep on top of the spread of Covid, and that ultimately means no gigs. Maybe meeting up for practices and jams is the best we can hope for at the moment.
  4. Weird isn't it.
  5. Is it just me or does anyone else get a near blank page when they're looking for bass cabs on the DV247 website? Exhibit A: below. That's it, that's all I get, on all the bass cab tabs. I've tried different browsers, clearing caches and all sorts.
  6. No. The only thing my brother can play is the fool...and he's not very good at that to be honest
  7. If you click on the UK flag at the top of the page it'll give you a drop down menu where there's a US flag...click on that it takes you to the US site, and it says free shipping across the US. Apologies if this results in you spending money you hadn't intended on spending
  8. I haven't bought a mixer yet. I'd be only looking to record a maximum of 2 non-mixed sources at any one time. This is the only piece of hardware I have at the moment that will connect an instrument to my computer, I've used it a few times to record on Garageband, that's it really.
  9. Although I've never had expensive gear, it's not to say I never wanted to have some. There was a time, about 5 years ago, where I was going to save as much as I could for a 4 figure £'s bass, a cab from someone like Vanderkely or Barefaced, and an amp that was equally cool/hot/expensive. However, apart from never really having that sort of money available even if I saved and saved, combined with that I've never really played enough to justify the expense I also had a bit of an epiphany moment. A band I was in supported a very well known local band one night. The bass player played a Squier Affinity P bass. These guys did maybe 200 shows a year. He also let me use his amp and cab, a Behringer head with a 112 cab that looked like it had been dragged behind a truck. I just thought, I need to get my priorities right...which was I had decent gear but I don't practice enough
  10. Quick newbie question. What is the best way to plug a non-USB mixing desk (one of those little 6 or 8 track ones) into a computer? AND how do you do it so you can monitor it by using the headphones output on the desk (so you can hear what has been recorded already and what is going into the desk for the new track you want to record) ? Also I read somewhere, I didn't really understand it tbh, that, when you're recording a new track and monitor previous tracks using the headphones, it you don't route the signals properly you can effectively overdub what has already been recorded onto the new track???? I hope that makes sense.

    Ampeg cabs

I had one of the B410hlf 410s. It was a great sounding cab. It could shift a serious amount of air. Big. Built like a tank... unfortunately weighed about the same as well. Having owned one, I always look to see what Ampeg stuff is for sale.
  12. I've only ever played one expensive bass. Someone at an open mic let me use a US Fender Jazz FSR with a John East pre fitted. I didn't play with the eq settings, despite hating the midscoop that had been dialed in. That aside, it was ok. I've only ever been able to afford cheaper basses, and some I've liked, others were meh, one or two I hated. However, they've all been decent quality, I've not bought one that had actual faults. My current pair of basses are a Sire V7 and a Squier VM Precision. I've had them for a few years and I really love them. They do what I need them to do, I've not got the cash to splurge on something more expensive anyway 😁
  13. It's all got so depressing I've grown a beard.

I've always purposely not grown one as it makes me look like a clone of my Dad (who's had a beard a long as I can remember, 47yrs). But what else is there to do at the moment :)

  14. I took this thread in the spirit it was intended and I to tried a bit of Yes. No, just no.
  15. Squier Precision, one of the Korean made ones from 1991. The neck looked lovely, it was like flame maple. Fender Rumble 500 combo, probably the best sounding set up I've had. Almost forgot. Hohner B2A, I sold with a Peavey Basic 60. The Basic 60 was worth nothing really but I sold both for a stupid low figure.
  16. I'm not a big fan of Van Halen, but I'm truly gutted. His impact and influence cannot be overstated. I did see this on Twitter, which makes for a smile on sad days like these
  17. Has anyone tried using these with an android device? There's quite a bit about using apps on an iOS device, eg. recording or as an effector, but nothing about whether this functionality is available on an android device.
  18. The Harley Benton 810 is only 8kg heavier than my old Ampeg B410hlf.
  19. I'll have a look at the SC01 as the mixing desk has sold. Many thanks
  20. One of my sons is learning guitar and I thought it'd be an idea to play along together at home. Obviously, there are others in the house who don't appreciate the artistic ventures of stringed instruments at volume (mostly his older brother, the miserable toad), so I was wondering how to go about us playing using headphones so we could hear each other and a backing track. I noticed a little 6 track desk for sale locally (pic below) for not much money. I thought we could both plug into that via Zoom multi fx pedals (I bought him the G1on recently, because I got fed up with him pinching my B1on), plug them into the desk and then use a spliter cable in the headphone out so we could hear it. There's also an aux in input for mp3 I think. I've never had anything to do with desks, not a thing. So, sounding like someone who doesn't know his musical derrière from his elbow, would this work? Or is there an easier way of playing along together using headphones? Cheers
  21. As long as you don't put it upside down, it'll be fine.
  22. I can agree with you on that. I've always been very work man like in my playing, not flash or anything. However, I've always managed to keep my place in a band by making sure I learnt the material and playing it properly. 6 years ago I was in a band with probably the best guitarist I've ever been in a band with. I'd been in a band with a guitarist who was more technical (he could do all sorts), but this guy was, what you might say, more complete. My playing improved a lot very quickly. Looking back I think I was better then then I am now. I was being more creative and trying stuff I'd shied away from. My confidence was increased as well. It became noticeable when we had to replace the singer in the band and we turned to someone I'd been in a band with a few years previous. She actually commented how I was a completely different player. I'm very much out of the loop these days, I've not been in a band for over 2 years and lost a lot of contacts...maybe because I fell out with a few
  23. When I returned to playing after, a very lengthy gap, the first gig I did the guitarist used one of those. It worked fine...until the derrière forgot to switch it back to standard tuning for the next song.
  24. It is something bass players seem to go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...
  25. I'm always the worst player in any band I've been in. It somewhat tells of how desperately short of bass players this little rural hell hole is, that I've never failed to get into any band I've auditioned for.
