The Gear4Music fitted foam cases look identical to the Kinsman ones I've had. They are fantastic for £40. I've had mine for 15 years and are still going strong.

Tone Hammer 210 combo.... Looks nice. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Marvin replied to spyder's topic in Amps and Cabs
No. It may sound good however, aside the awful aesthetics it looks really awkward to move. -
This has not been used very much and never been out of the house. I'm not a guitarist, but it's got some really nice sounding presets and effects built in and is quite loud. It'd make a perfect practice/home amp. It has the instruction manual, USB cable and original box. My 2 Jazz basses. The black one, is my Sire V7. It's a first generation and I can't remember how long I've had it. It was one of the very first ones made with a signed neckplate. I took the plate off and replaced it was a blank plate. The original lives in a box. I've used it a lot and apart from the neckplate I've done no modifications to it, I've never felt the need. The V7 has been my main bass since I bought it (I did have a Squier P bass as a back up). The 3 tone burst Jazz I bought recently from a fellow Basschatter. I love it. I wanted a passive Jazz with a classic look and this fits that bill. Don't let the Sire hear, but this is probably my main bass now.

I bought this lovely self build Jazz from @briansbrew recently. It has a genuine Fender Jazz neck and 70s style Fender tuners. The neck has a lovely played in feel. The tuners are great, they really hold. A lot of my other basses I've owned I've always wondered how it could be flat and sharp at the same time when tuning...cheap tuners. The body, an alder jazz body from North West Guitars. I love 3 tone burst with tort. Seymour Duncan pickups, a push pull switch on the neck pickup volume to go between series and parallel. And a great Schaller bridge. It's a lot of bass. It's only the 2nd bass I've bought where when I've played it I've thought, yes this is my bass. I took it to practice on Wednesday. I find the neck really easy to play, and I just love the tone in combination with my amp and cab. So yes, result!

I've commented on this thread a couple of times, but I thought I add a bit more. Although I've been to the venue to watch gigs and played there, I never really got to know the people, or now person, running it. My current band (albeit covers) is less than a year old, and in that year, I have to say the guy running this place has been absolutely brilliant towards us. Help, advice a couple of good opportunities and bookings etc. He works incredibly hard on behalf of any of the bands around this way. I've nothing but thanks and respect for him. If this came up again I'd definitely give up an evening to play a few songs, no question.

Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?
Marvin replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
There are a few in my current bands set list that have been tampered with, some more than others. As @chris_b says, I think it's best to stick to the original arrangement. The ones that have been adjusted have caused problems for our new guitarist, especially as we haven't particularly good recordings of us playing them. Things would have been a lot quicker if we'd just stuck to an agreed original template. -
Looks like it was left too close to a radiator.

I bought a Jazz bass from @briansbrew this week. Great to deal with. All seemless and quick and packed very well for delivery. The bass... well, I kept on staring at it so much my wife asked if I was going to be sleeping downstairs with it. Thank you Brian.

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...
Marvin replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
People who have to have the application they're using on full screen on a shared terminal... and don't close it. They're not using the full functionality of the windows... thing. Actually, I think that's a daily annoyance -

I'm with those who don't like painted necks. I don't like active on board eq that doesn't have a mid control. White pickguards. Those baseball caps with the really flat peak. Ugh. -
I don't want to sound like a sychophant, but here, Basschat, is 'the place to shop'. Sometimes you may have to be a bit patient. I've bought some cracking gear, and recently bought a cab I've always wanted on here. I don't think there's anywhere more trustworthy and fairly priced.

A Schroeder 212 or Genz Benz NX212 ate the 2 cabs I have used. Both great cabs, but very different as well. The only thing is finding one, unfortunately.

My New Year Challenge - What 5 String Bass, Harley Benton or Squier?
Marvin replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
I have my eye on the Squier, as a 5 string would be useful in my band. I've not really played a 5 string however, my local music shop has a Squier in stock. The only 5 string I've had a quick play of was an Ibanez SR305. I found the 16.5mm string spacing too narrow. I'm not sure but I think the Squier is 19mm spacing? -
Great guitarist, great voice and always came across as a really down to earth nice person. RIP

There are only 2 rehearsal spaces that supply rigs in my area. One, old Peavey combos that have been ragged to bits. The amps seem OK but the drivers have been pushed so hard I'd say the cones are badly torn. The second place has a Markbass rig. A 210 cab with a 250w head. It's OK but struggles a little to cut through in the room, especially against the awful drum kit there.

I've never owned a 15, and the only 15 I played through once was in a Line 6 combo... it sounded awful, which was probably the ridiculous amp in it. Currently, I have a 212, which sounds completely different to a 212 I had several years ago. I also have a 210 which I'd say is more coloured than the 212 in that it sounds to have less top end than the 212. In my limited experience the only constant I've arrived at is you have to try it before you'll know what it sounds like.

Squier Classic Vibe 5 string Jazz. I'm surprised. Very surprised.
Marvin replied to leschirons's topic in Bass Guitars
A fellow bass player I bump into at open mics and gigs has just bought Squier Sonic Precision. He usually plays a Japanese Fender Precision Lyte and also has a Warwick Corvette $$. He told me the Sonic plays better, sounds better than the Fender and he can't remember why he bought the Warwick. -
Adding another cab to my rig suggestions please
Marvin replied to BassYerbouti's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've just bought a Genz Benz NX212t. Great cab. It just works, it's loud enough, it sounds really good, I can't fault it. Previously, I've had a Schroeder 212 with the angled driver. On its own its bit more of an acquired taste, it's quite mid heavy, but very loud, small box and sounded great in bands. They are quite rare though. If I hadn't bought the Genz recently I was mulling over the Lsys cabs. I didn't quite have the budget for one though. -
How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Marvin replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Rehearsed Sunday morning and last night as we're trying to bring a new guitarist up to speed. To be honest I think we shouldn't have rehearsed Sunday and allowed the guitarist to learn more of the material. That aside, they were good rehearsals. We got through a good amount of material. And the sound and mix are so much better now, especially for me. With our previous guitarist, there seemed to be nowhere sonically for me to sit, his volume and tone filled everything. I don't know how he managed it. Now, everything seems to sit so much more comfortably with each other. I've got a tone I'm loving at the moment and it makes playing so much more enjoyable. -
Our local arts centre was one of the venues he was coming to on his talk/tour he was going to do. I thought 'blimey, that's a big name to come to this little old town'. I'm genuinely shocked.

I polished the frets for the very first time on a bass over the weekend. I masked off the fretboard and pickups, used some 0000 wire wool then metal polish and finally lemon oil for the board. The frets have come up a treat. Especially pleased as I'd never done a fret polish before.

We didn't practice this week, we started auditioning a new guitarist. It's the first time I've been the other side of the fence, and I was actually quite nervous. Lovely guy, lovely playing. We all found it easy to play with him. Good music theory knowledge (way, way better than my basic understanding). Great sound, he knows how to use the effects he has. I was a little apprehensive when I saw a 212 cab, a Marshall tube power and separate preamp, I thought my hearing was in for a bashing. But no, great tone but at sensible volume... apparently he doesn't do loud. Think we found a keeper. -
I'd see this as a sideways move. I've got my coat and out the door...

Weeks like this week are a struggle. One member of the band, their circumstances had changed meaning we couldn't practice for the foreseeable future and we couldn't book gigs. However, they didn't see the problem and ultimately it was decided to part ways. So here I am again, trying to find a replacement. It's frustrating to say the least.
