  1. Have replaced the pick ups? A Squier p bass I had had a dreadful buzz. I shielded it, changed the pots and wiring. No change. Changed the pick ups eliminated 99% of the hum/buzz.
  2. I've only ever had D'Addario Chromes or Fender flats. Neither, thankfully, have felt sticky, just smooth 😎
  3. I've recently put rounds back on my Jazz bass. I had a set of Chromes on it for about 7 years. They worked fine in a blues based band I was in back when I put them on. The Chromes made for a nice woody tone, but for my current band I need a bit more bite.
  4. I wholeheartedly agree. There's nothing about AI that interests me in the slightest, especially regarding art. It's a complete oxymoron.
  5. I've never had anyone question me playing a Jazz bass. It'd be tough if they did because I'll play what I feel comfortable playing. I can get a tone that works but also, as I get older my hands don't stretch as much as they used to. One finger per fret is very difficult and I find the extra nut width on a Precision harder work. As others have said, you have to tweak a Jazz more, but that also gives more options, especially with the bridge pick up. As for live sound, that's a real bug bear. Not so much for me, but as an audience member. Sound engineers seem to think the optimal mix is to sound like a car fitted with a huge sub in the boot, with windows wound up, parked 100m away.

  7. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y5qleq4xeo More controversy about ticketing for the Oasis reunion. The treatment of fans seems shabby at best.
  8. I've been listening to the whole album really. I never got into Tool until a few weeks ago.
  9. I don't think I've met a more cowardly collective than people in bands. I've had this sort of thing happen to me once or twice. The first time I was told the project was folding because the guitarist had family commitments. A few weeks later their former bass player posted on social media how it was great to be back playing with the lads again. I called the guitarist every name under the sun. It's pathetic.
  10. I put my bass on the ironing board and put a cushion under the neck to change strings.
  11. I can only comment on 2 brands as they're the only ones I've ever used. On my Sire V7 I've got D'Addario Chromes and on my Squier P bass Fender flats. Both sets have been on the basses for about 7 years. When I first put the Chromes they sounded significantly brighter than the rounds I had on there, but that was because I hadn't changed those rounds in...I can't even remember. The Chromes are now very 'played in'. They're that played in that the passive tone control on the Sire has little effect, to the point I thought the tone pot was broken. (I put some rounds on temporarily and thankfully found out that it was the strings). The Fender flats on the P bass have maintained a much brighter sound, but this might be because I play the Sire more or that the Squier has always been brighter and actually louder acoustically and plugged in. The Chromes are now at a stage where I'm umming and ahhing whether to replace them. They do have a very acoustic upright sound about them though, so I might keep them on. For the money, the Fender Flats are very good, although they do feel as they have a very hight tension compared to the Chromes.
  12. Got mine today, all looks good and genuine
  13. The first live performance with my new band, we did a half hour set at a 'Party in the Park' event. We couldn't of asked for a better start. Great reception/response from those there, we even have a potential booking. It was great to be playing live again after a gap of 7 years.
  14. When you start you can't stop. If I didn't play gigs, I just wouldn't play. Gigs are the motivation and discipline to play, and the buzz. I've got my first live performances in 7 years in about 2hrs time. I thought about selling everything about 5 years ago, but here I am, back in a band ready to play again.
  15. I ordered some this morning and they're due to be delivered tomorrow, fingers crossed. Hopefully this will turn out better than the last time I bought strings on Amazon... I received a mobile phone case.
  16. I really do like the look and spec to these. I've been browsing the LFSys site today, impressive
  17. I don't think we need to bring religion into this...
  18. I've played an MIM Fender Precision in a shop, it was OK. I wouldn't have wanted to pay whatever it was though. I also played a MIA Fender Jazz FSR at a jam night for a couple of songs. It didn't feel any better than my Sire V7 really. I own a Squier precision, it's a precision, what more can one say 😁
  19. I've only played one Sire bass, and that's one of the very first V7 jazz style basses that came out. C shape, 38mm nut, 7.25in radius. The neck on that is not too dissimilar to my Squier VM Precision with regard to the thickness from back to front. As far a I'm aware the first Sire precision style basses, the P7s, have the same necks as the V7s. There was quite a discussion on Sire's Facebook page as to what sort of neck they should put on the P7 and the prevailing opinion was stick the V7 neck on it. Whether they're still like that I wouldn't know, and I couldn't comment on the P5 as I've never played one. You could maybe contact Andertons, who stock Sires and Squiers and ask them about similarities and differences.
  20. What cab I buy, or would buy, isn't governed by cone size... but whether it'll fit in the cupboard under the stairs.
  21. I've recently got into a new band. Had a couple of false starts getting to this band. It's all been a mix of word of mouth, social media and sites like JoinMyBand. Use them all. They all have mixed results. The only route that has never been successful for me have been jam and open mic nights.
  22. We had a very good practice last night. Part of last night was getting our sound and mix sorted. And without much effort it was very good. Especially when none of us have much experience or have dealt with that end of things. We're a new band and have our first gig in a few weeks. We went through the songs we have and they sounded really good. One of the new ones to the list, played it first time, it sounded like we'd been playing it for months. Very happy all round. Can't wait to hear the recording the drummer made.
  23. 4Why does Spotify keep playing me an advert in Spanish? Just this one Spanish ad, no other ads, just this one. It's weird.

I got invites to do a degree in chiropody for a week... .
      Also agricultural collage.

Also podcasts for young black women of Caribbean heritage in the UK - that was an odd one

Perhaps Daniel Ek wants us all to learn Spanish so we can 'consume' more 'content'?

Having said that, LBC have been running an advert that's all in Spanish. There is a part two that explains it's an ad for a company that offers protection from legal action if an error is made in advertising...

  24. Just scanning over a limited discography of her work, it's phenomenal. She has been overlooked for far too long.
  25. I've never heard that expression before. I may, if you OK with it, start using it myself. 🙂 There's nothing unique, special or stand out about the band I'm in currently. If you were to put the set list in front of me and say do you wany to go and see this band I'd say, "not really". Most of the set is material that has been done a million times over.
