It looks like both the 45DCX and the EMGX series are both Active pickups so have a small pre-amp built into the pickup themselves. They will ned a constant battery supply so although it "could" be possible to install 45DCK's it would need some modifying of the supplied solderless wiring harness. They also might be too "hot" for your pre-amp. If you are stuck on using EMG's look for the passive equivalent which should be a straight swap and keep all your original functionality.

My Bad. I thought they were 16 ohm drivers. should read the OP comments properly before putting keyboard into gear.😀

If it were me I'd be inclined to rewire them both with the speakers in parallel as it would give you a number of advantages. Firstly the cabs would then be 8 ohms each so you could run one on it's own if you wanted. At the moment you can't as your amp hasn't got a 16 Ohm option. Secondly at the moment with the speakers wired in series should 1 fail or the wiring between them, you lose the whole cab. With parallel wiring if 1 speaker goes, you have the other one still in circuit. Finally, 4 and 8 Ohm cabs are more common than 16 ohm ones making them more attractive should you want to sell them. Just my 10 penneth for what it's worth.

Richard Bona has been announced for a clinic. I remember the one he did at Bass Day UK @ RNCM. Truly inspirational and received a standing ovation.

And another vote for the headless conversion. Looks waaaaaaay better. Great job.

If it's an amp sleeve you are after, Mike Walsh, (Zoot Bass), built me one to my specs a few years back. I am not sure if he is still doing cabs etc or just basses these days but maybe worth a shot. I never used the sleeve in the end and depending on what you are after this one might suit you. It's made out of his supply of unbelievably lightweight ply.

Wembley Loudspeakers can repair it. Keeps the cab original. http://www.wembleyloudspeaker.com/

If you could wind back the clock and....
BassBunny replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
I played guitar for years before switching to Bass, (never regretted it), but if I had my time again I reckon it would have to be Hammond Organ. There is just something about the Hammond/Leslie combination that really gets to me. -
And aimed at the car market. With no detailed specs available it would be difficult to model them to get a specification for a cab build. I'd be looking for a 2nd hand 2x10 personally. There's a Harley Benton one F/S at the moment in the marketplace for £65. You couldn't build one for that. Peavey and Hartke 2x10's come up all the time really cheaply.

In a word "yes". 😉

One way to minimise the chance of damage is to take it with you to the boarding gate and hand it over at the last minute, as families with baby buggies do. Reverse the process at the other end collecting it as soon as you land. As a matter of interest, where are you playing in Prague? My son lives there and is always up for seeing a band from the UK. He's a skinny string player himself.

JHS Vintage active bass pot replacement.
BassBunny replied to caitlin's topic in Repairs and Technical
So the pre-amp is not exactly the same but certainly similar to one I had in one of my basses and the Blend/Bass/Treble are all B100K. -
The original SGC Nanyo Bass Collections from the 80/90s are incredibly light. I've got 3 x 5 Strings and the heaviest is 7.25 lbs. Fantastic build quality and Gotoh Hardware.

JHS Vintage active bass pot replacement.
BassBunny replied to caitlin's topic in Repairs and Technical
You're spot on with what you have said so far. The bass and treble in the centre "notched" position is flat, no boost or cut. Similarly the balance in the centre position has both pickups equally blended. If it is the blend pot that's faulty, you've already identified it as a 100K linear and they are easy to get hold of. The pre-amp looks identical to one from a bass I have. I'll have a look and report back if you need the values of the bass/treble pots. -
I was concerned it might be a bi-amp setup where all 4 connectors were used. I'm with Bill and a possible detached wire.

The Phil Jones SS4 cable is a 4 Core cable connected at both ends so any speaker cable won't do IF the 4 cores are needed. The chances are that a normal 2 core will do and NL2 connectors but without out knowing what is being connected to what, can't really say.

Our own @obbm will sort you out. Never use anyone else for Speaker and Instrument leads.

If i remember rightly when i put a set of Active EMG's in my Jazz the battery fitted in the existing cavity. It was only when I added a BTC that I had the bass routed for a battery box I think it ended up between the 2 pickups.
-
If you are going to use active EMG's there is a pre-amp already built into the pickups. The pickups come with quick connectors to plug into the pickups and the correct Vol/Tone controls, battery connector etc. come with the kit. I'm not sure if you can use these pickups with anything other than an EMG pre-amp if you want to add a mid or blend control, so somewhat restricted. An East J Retro or J-Tone would drop straight in. No routing for a battery box and then you can use any passive pickups you like.

If you want a genuine Ibanez replacement, https://www.meinlshop.de/en/ibanez/spare-parts/e-guitars/potentiometers/ibanez-potentiometer-ac500k-3vr3pc0004 If in the UK just Google "AC500K Blend Pot" and loads of options come up. I'd go for a CTS or Bourns one personally.

If you buy decent quality leads and coil them like BreadBin suggested they should last years. I only ever buy from our own BassicBits or Award Session. Never let me down and haven't bought a lead in the lat 8-10 years.

Exactly what I do. I've got Luminlay fitted to 2 of my basses and ordered the UV torches at the same time so use those.

Great post. I've been doing exactly the same thing for a while now but use the 3M Luminous sheet,This Stuff, and I think I have enough material to last me the rest of my days. The great thing is using this method you can punch the holes to the size you want rather than buying the dots that only seem to come in 1 size. The luminous effect does last an age.
