They are the best small cab out there. This is due to the dept of these cabs. they provide great low end. Definately the best 112 out there and two of them will give you more then enough volume for most club gigs.
+1 I'm putting a Gallien Krueger 1001RB through 2 GS112's at the moment... Was a bit worried prior to getting the GK head, if the cabs could take it... so I emailed Aguilar, this is their reply... (found it!) "You would be fine with either GK head. Two GS 112's would handle 600 watts RMS and can typically handle spikes that are double that amount. The 700W model is mostly to give you extra headroom so if you use common sense about the amount of power that you need, you should be fine with this head and your two GS 112's." I'm loving them, I like the slight mid scoop & they have a warm 'darkness' about them that I couldn't find in other small cabs I tried.... Prefered them mucho to the Bergantino AE112's I had before
Awesome post, Pino IS the man! John Mayer's an awesome axemeister as well though, very Stevie Ray Vaughan. Pino also did some superb playing on Joan Armatradings "The Shouting Stage" Album. Check out the intro to "The Devil I know", could be the best Pino lick ever IMO.
Yep, very tasty lick indeed that!.... +1 to 'he's the man'..... lovely player, always seems to play just the right thing for the song.... never gets in the way (even when he's busy) & manages to stamp his unique character on everything he does...
Cool looking bass. Hows the neck feel? I was thinking of getting a MM to replace my Lakland but have also been looking at Sandbergs. I tried one (a Cali PM5) a few years ago and it was a very nice bass and i almost got it. The only thing i dont like about some of them is the lack of dots on the fretboard. Not that i need them but i do like them being there. Might have one soon. Can i ask how much you paid?
Well... I thought the lack of dots possibly might pose a problem... (it does have them down the side though...) but actually no, used it for both gigs last weekend & no problem at all!... in fact the inlays down the side are larger than on my Stingray & what with the Maple board, it was easier to see my way around.. under the flashing lights & all (...my eye's aren't as good as they used to be either!) The neck suits me fine.... a little broader as you go up it compared to the Stingray, but me likey! & the feel of it is great! I paid £1149 for it..... there are much cheaper ones out there, but I wanted the local shop after-care & that specific colour combination... (rare to get maple board & unpainted headstock on a basic)

I'd been looking for a second 5 string to compliment my Stingray 5 for a while now.. After a brief affair with a G&L L2500, which looked beautiful but just didn't really deliver what I was after (not when compared to the Ray...) ...I met a guy in a music store who was trying out a Fender Jazz... He had a Sandberg California 5 jazz, natural with a maple board with him. It looked really well made & he let me have a go.... It was a really nice instrument.... Previously, I'd read about Sandbergs a bit & liked the 'Basic' shape from pics at the Bass Merchant.... sweet! There seemed to be a flurry of Sandbergs appearing for sale here after that.... & I almost went for one... Bit skint though really, so I played the sensible adult card & avoided temptation... About this time, I found out from the local dealer (Jam Guitars) that I could order one of my choice & not be committed to buying :brow: Some how or other it's happened & I've managed to scrape the dosh together!... Sandberg Basic 5 in Greenburst with maple board not too complicated, active/passive... in the same ball park as the Stingray but sufficiently different, a softer, slightly more articulate tone (pics don't really do the finish justice....maybe I'll try & take some better ones later...)
Marvellous stuff, but for me, Tina Weymouth was the first female funk/pop bass player I knew about in the late 70s. Not many peoples Idea of true funk of course, but Talking Heads were sooooo funky, and Tina & Chris (Frantz) drove them along with some very simple but effective grooves. In fact it was listening to Tina that made me realize that simple basslines, with lots of space, can be much more powerful than a lot of twidly fiddly stuff.
yeah, Tina's very cool... wasn't it her who said, "why play two notes when one will do" ....less is more. must fish out 'stop making sense' vid not seen that in a while cheers for reminding me
Wow I had forgotten about that old Joan Armatrading album, I picked a copy up on CD from Amazon and it's still a great listen - Pino's sound and playing is excellent. Thanks Bottomfeed
no problemo.... glad to be of service! Love that 'devil I know' track.... great solo at the beginning... Classic Pino! In a similar way, I got hold of 'Hearts & flowers' that Joan Armatrading album with Mick Karn on it a while back..... but it didn't do it for me.... too many 80's sounds on it & I don't think the songs are so good.... can't win 'em all

Always been a fan of Mr Jones.... although I get what you mean about dated fusion!... normally I'm not a great fan of 'widdly fusion w@nking' but I've always liked his 'choice of notes'... a real dark edge that appeals to me..... He has an appalling website.... but there is some good information in the interview.... Percy Jones
