Raggy

Just bought a GK1001RB-II from Raggy.... Top guy to deal with... He obviously looks after his gear, it was in mint condition for a 2 year old amp.... delivered in the original box & with the manual! He even drove from Swindon to Bristol to drop it to me... bargin!.... cheers mate!
2. Pm'ed......
3. ....another one interested in a split here... just the GK..... if it gets to that
4. Sold this yet?.......
5. Yes!...... Price?
6. Ditto.... is this still for sale?
7. I'm also on the search for a good compressor at the moment.... I've got a Tech 21 bass compactor, which I've had for a while now...... but I've realised, after putting it under the microscope at a studio session recently, that it's not a particularly good one... (noisy , distorts easily etc....) After the usual Tinternet research..(!) the Demeter compulator, EBS multicomp & the Maxon CP-9 pro+ seem to get good revues & are in the price bracket I would be able to afford at the moment.... but as always, other peoples opinions may not be relevant when it comes to your own set up & way of playing.... gotta start somewhere though....... I'm intrigued by the U-sound Hipp'o comp & the Fratone Sandwich & would like to find out more about the Dave Hall one... (...prolly coz of the preeety coloured boxes!... I'm a bit of a sucker for a pretty box !) anyone have any experience of these?... So today I tried out the T-Rex compa nova & a Mad Professor forest green comp in Jam Guitars, a little boutique shop in Bristol...... the T-Rex was, as others have stated, not very impressive... the mad prof was more versatile but at £250 I wasn't convinced my life would be better for purchasing it!....... I bid on Ebay for a Demeter Comp but stopped at £140.... (heck, they're £199 new!) it went for £142...!!!! did anyone from here get it? finding this thread pretty useful....... cheers all! So the search goes on.....
8.
Heh-heh!! This was my first bass as well. Mine was white. My was also sh*te!
Oddly enough.... I was rehearsing at SoundBase studios in Wellington & what did I see?..... One of these Jedsons in cream!!.... bizarre! ...it was soo small!.... could hardly get my fat fingers to fit the frets!.... took me back a bit! it had them black tape wound strings on it.... weren't they called tru-bass?
9. CD Baby seems to have no hidden charges etc... CD Baby
10. very nice looking bass!.... I've recently bought the L-2500 version... same natural finish & maple neck & all!
11.
I'm a bit of an MK fan I must say - the Japan album "Tin Drum" album is as good a place as any to start. He's readily admits to Percy Jones being a big influence - indeed he got into fretless through hearing Percy Jones on Eno's Another Green World album. Another great British fretless player to try out if you haven't heard him before.....
+1 to Percy Jones! ...Brand x - 'unorthodox behaviour' & 'livestock' great albums that blew me away when I 1st heard them... & what he's doing with Tunnels these days has that magic still.... Not every ones cup of tea, I can understand.... but it's 'twiddly' jazz that has buckets of soul.... unlike some more famous exponents of the twiddly jazz world that leave me cold.....
12. I've always had a soft spot for Mick Karn's bassery.... a very unique player... +1 for Liquid Glass (with Yoshihihiro Hanno) & Polly Town (with David Torn & Terry Bozzio) & Three part species - master ...classic Karn weirdness! I liked Dali's car ....some very inventive bass playing!
13. a Jedson bass at 13.... it was sh*te!....looked like this: ...followed by an Audition bass from Woolies!... it was 'shop soiled' (string missing & ding in scratchplate) so I managed to haggle with the shopkeep from £26 to a tenner!....was well chuffed! ... anyone have a pic of an Audition bass?
14. Well... I've been using the GB neo-pak for several months now.... & it's a great amp.. & light too!... at a mere 350 watts it's half the output but twice the size of a shuttle!.... reckon the sound must be similar... same EQ configuration... but coz of it's HUGE proportions I can see to fiddle with the knobs without putting me glasses on!... old skool rules! If I ever had to replace it..... I'd have to get a shuttle......
15. Here's my contribution.... the Man from Funkle the 'nice little earner' Torn the one to vent my spleen! Groove Planet project with a drummer & producer Cerberus bit of fun with the two guys I started playing with.... 1000 years ago! (...at least!)
16.
It's all good stuff as far as i'm concerned. Music is music, whether you're playing the comb & tissue paper, the spoon, or the bass! His version of 'Stairway...' is very impressive. K
Quite!... he's got a good feel as a musician, whatever the instrument.... personally, I like his own compositions .... 'Epic love' This is what he says about himself: "My aim is to play melodic music with a full and complete sound using my bass guitar. All of my original compositions and arrangements are played on my Zon VB4 bass with D'Addario PICCOLO strings (extremely light gauge strings that are very receptive to altered tunings and allow me to tune my bass to higher pitches). Essentially, piccolo strings can be tuned anywhere between standard bass tuning all the way up to the first four strings of a guitar. Altered tunings are a key part of my approach. Musical background: I am lucky to have received cello lessons from a young age before switching to bass when I was 17 (ten years ago). I learned how to play by jamming along with my favorite rock bands. When I was 21, I discovered Michael Manring and Victor Wooten and was immediately drawn to the solo bass scene... I hope you enjoy the music!" .....Seems pretty unpretentious
17.
Now Muckin' about with USE ME by Bill Withers on iTunes ........ INFECTIOUS!! Note to self .... must stop noodling this year and actually learn something !!
...have you heard the Raw Stylus version? .... it really kicks ass!
18.
Anyone else astonished at the bass on 'Beat It' being played with a pick?
+1! Really very interesting thread this.... I'm lovin' it!
19. Excellent stuff!... thanks for that, he's always been a favourite of mine ever since that album with Gary Newman... a particularly sh*te & unfinished sounding album, but with the exciting & creative bass parts of Pino, it becomes very listenable!
20. try here
21.
I'd love to see an old Bells catalogue from the mid '70s. it was my porn of choice when I was a kid.
...ditto!
22. This: Arrived today as expected.... & exactly as described... I'm well chuffed! Keith is a great guy to deal with, says it how it is & obviously had looked after this bass ...it's immaculate! (...as described) It was well packed & bomb proof to the whims of 'Parcel Farce' too....
23. Since the last time I was in this thread I've changed me cabs..... So here's me tackle now....... Wish I had the matching shoes & earrings though!
24.
That's not gay - it just likes pushing the hoover about a bit !!! Now THIS is a real lifter of gentlemans shirts!!!!!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=fettled+fender I came in from work yesterday and it had a quiche in the oven !!
.....
25. +1 for Percy Jones & Mick Karn!.... :brow: That Jaco solo from Shadows & Light didn't make it to the album (...so that says something) That album was my 1st introduction to Jaco's playing & it blew me away, I still think some of his best work was when he was being the bass player for Joni... more 'playing for the song' & less w@nking if you get me.....
