1. Bump!.. with a bit of stock info too.... http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=120
2.
damn you, sir, damn you!! I just popped over to Tone World as I'd not heard of them before...."oooh, they offer free delivery...oooh, it's next DAY delivery if you order before 2pm...oooooooh, no hassle 7 day return policy......oops, just ordered a catalinbread montavillian"
ha haa! Yes.... could get quite addictive! (Liking that Von Bartha stuff in your link btw!)
3.
FYI, I have just ordered a catalinbread pedal (montavillian) from Tone World, and they do free next day delivery and have a 7 day no fuss return policy, so potentially you could try it out and return it if it wasn't for you...
I also got my SFT from them, after 1st trying the JHS Low drive... cost me about £6 to send the JHS back (with insurance) It was worth it to satisfy my lustful curiosity about the pretty, seductive lil thing!... Sound didn't do it for me though, compared to the SFT. Tone World refunded the difference in price between the two pedals, directly to my bank account. They are very easy to deal with & very quick!
4. Bah!.... If he didn't take the Diago!.... Then I'm next in line! Please....
5. Thanks for all the great information, advice & ideas that have been bought to this thread.... I now have the Catalinbread SFT pedal & it does pretty much exactly what I want!... Well pleased... A special thank you to Nick for lending me his SFT Clone for so long, so I had the chance to compare it with all the others... Although I was completely seduced by the idea of the JHS Low Drive, from the youtube vids... to the point of buying it! ...Good as it was as a tubescreamer type, when compared to the SFT there was no contest.... the variety to be found in this pedal it terrific... & the dynamic response really sealed the deal for me. Tone World in Manchester are worth a shout too... They matched the price of the JHS from a US seller on ebay & were happy to take it back & refund the difference, when I finally bought the, slightly cheaper, SFT from them...
6. I no longer have any need for this tuner ... (it won't do a bottom B & I play 5's mostly these days) Had been keeping it for nostalgia purposes only!... Bought it in the mid 80's & it has served me well for many years, always accurate & reliable (...with a moving needle & everything!) Complete with original case... lovingly Relic'd™ over the years & with original authentic gaffa tape customisation... [s]£29.99 posted[/s] Joking!...[s]£25 [/s]...SOLD for £20
7.

no worries!.. Looking forward to me new SFT!... "Loike the Murphy's... I'm not bitter!"
8.
Have you already ordered one matey? I'm happy for you to take this one if it's still available and I'll get one when my stuff sells...no rush
Yes, mine is ordered!.... I just wished I'd noticed this before.... I coulda gone for a full refund on the Low Drive & saved myself some dosh! Thanks for the thought though.... you know... If I could find some extra space on my board, your Hyperdrive at £50 woulda been mighty tempting!... I seem to have gone the most expensive way round this game... ah, well....
9. Catalinbread SFT.....Wins for me!
10.
...and where have you found the best price on an SFT?
The Lomenzo Hyperdrive certainly tempted me... but it's got such a hoofing great footprint! Haven't the space for it... I'm getting my SFT from Toneworld in Manchester, since getting the Low Drive from them.. Postage is free & they are very helpful & quick. Their price on the SFT is £145 ...which is pretty good for new. http://www.toneworld.co.uk/effects-c1/bass-pedals-c14/catalinbread-sft-bass-overdrive-effects-pedal-p377 I reckon the SFT can do the Chelsea Dagger thing!
11. Thought I'd update this thread...... I've tried the Bad Monkey (thanks to Matthew) ... for the money, a great value pedal.. Although for my needs, not a great deal of tonal variety. Also the Catalinbread SFT (extra thanks to Nick, for letting me have it for such a long time!) Wasn't sure of this to start with, but when comparing with others, it really shines! very adjustable & the dynamic response makes it very usable... I've just got hold of the JHS Low Drive v2 today.... Those Youtube demos seduced me somewhat! ...& I'd managed to strike a good deal with Toneworld in Manchester. It's good..... but compared with the SFT it doesn't have the variety & dynamic response... if it had separate bass & treble controls, I'd probably still consider it.... Tried them all against my Ibanez Phat Hed, which continues to have value to me despite the fact that the dirt of it is quite buzzy end! The separate Low & High EQ knobs & the 'clean' setting are very usable.. Didn't get to try the Xotic BB bass preamp or the Dredgetone Angler... (thanks for the offers, though) My conclusion is I definitely need bass & treble tone controls, so the Low Drive is going back... & will be replaced with the Catalinbread SFT I could experiment with the BB bass preamp, but a new one of those is just that bit more expensive.....
12. Not such a great fan of the PSP vibe.... (that drummer is very busy!) .......But always love Pino's playing. Such a great player whether it's laying down a simple groove or more complex jazz w***ery, he does a perfect job of it....
13. you can see some of the 'contents of a secondhand music shop arranged as a wall' type backline here.... Lots of boxes, some with FAL ( (Futuristic Aids Limited) written on them! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QLL2j8ZtxE I was really quite influenced by Can, as a youngster... Faust & Amon Duul II as well.... Tago Mago was my favourite Can album... some terrific grooves on it!
14. It's been a real pleasure dealing with Matthew... He let me have his Bad Monkey pedal on a full refund if it wasn't what I wanted basis.. it arrived so swiftly, I think we were both surprised! ...In near perfect condition, well looked after, with all the original gubbins in the box from new. All communication has been quick & easy.... I wouldn't hesitate to do more business with the guy in the future... Top bloke.
15. That Yolanda clip is brilliant!..... I used to do shouty lads choruses in the punk days!... but it is a real issue trying to be tuneful & hold a groove down... Practice is always the key.. & not giving in to the lil voice that says... nah, I can't really, can I?! Another Geddy Lee story... (if it isn't urban myth!) He apparently practiced playing a bass line whilst reading a newspaper out aloud.. My advice would be, do the Yolanda stuff... & then expand it to make it your own journey.... with tunes you are actually playing... Go for it! Good luck!
16. ...it's a good pedal.... I've tried it! & can confirm it's In near new condition with box & all the gubbins that it started life with...
17.
wednesday, sat-at-home-following wisdom tooth-removal in a boat-load of pain BUMP
awww poor you!.... I hate having teeth pulled... it's the pits!.... Still thinking about your Angler here!...
18.
BB pre amp is great and allows you to balnce the tone well with other things as it is boost and cut. Currently enjoying what its doing with my p bass. I found, and you may not give a damn , is that while one pedal can maybe cover a low gain or moderate gain we would rather have two pedals that do each sound equally well cause we love to buy gear. I've happily loaned guys on here a pedal to see if it was what they were after during quiet, non-giging times but I'm busy over August. If you're still thinking about a BB pre amp gimme a shout and I can bounce it your way for a few days near the end of the month.
A generous offer sir! ....BB pre amp does sound like a possible contender...... After trying out a few different options, I'm finding that the pre amp route is maybe what I'm after..... sansamp, tonehammer, M-80 etc, rather than overdrive... (if only they weren't all in massive boxes!) although I still like the idea of that JHS low drive! .....I may just do something rash.... in the name of gas!!
19.
Well.... OK then. I just wanted to stress that the molded plugs are the preferred option because they fit properly and form a proper seal all the way around. The generic style with 3 or 4 flares that are supposed to form into the shape of your ear canal are incredibly thin, its only the bit in the middle that does any attenuating and its down to the size and shape of your ear canal (which you can't change) as to how effective the generic ones are . Generic ones are also just as prone to breaking the seal as the bespoke kind, if not more so due to movement, irregular ear canal shape or damage to the silicone itself (it does get weaker with time). Also, because many of the generic ones don't give an even frequency attenuation, (especially the foam ones) people have a tendency to not put them in all the way, or turn them around until they can hear well. The result is you can hear better, but the reason for that is you're not protecting your ears properly! So I see the generic ones, including the Noizezz, as a stop gap, or temporary solution. Since we're mostly all musicians for life I think £150 is a reasonable price to pay for having our ears serviceable as long as we are musicians!
I agree with that ^^ I've had tinnitus for over 20 years now.... Molded ER15 for me.... on my second set of molds, (as you age, your ear canals change shape...) High frequencies are the main cause & prolonged exposure (Ear fatigue can set in after a couple of hours... So 4 hour rehearsals can be worse than a 1 hour gig! ....even at a lesser volume!) When I first had my molds done, the specialist said. "The trouble with you musicians is you only show up for this when some damage has already been done...If you'd come sooner, you'd have a good chance of maintaining perfect hearing" It's something that should be taken very seriously... Spending £150 on protecting your ears is far more important than spending £150 on that boutique drive pedal!
