1.
Don't suppose you'd sell the roqsolid cover on it's own? I'm too lazy to order one myself for my combo! Truckstop
nah! ...sorry mate!
2.
Hi Paul (Connolly) - thanks for the comment. I once played one of the very early Delta metal fretless Vigiers - and it was terrible! They hadn't sorted the neck very well - and I'm not sure if it was carbon fibre - anyway it's definitely worth playing before parting with money. Vigier stopped production of them a couple of years ago - I can't believe it! Mine is an exceptional bass - the action, sustain, sound (in all areas) are outstanding! I really should look after it with more care - it's looking a bit battered at the moment! I wonder what's surprising?! I have been wondering for a while about passing on some 'bass themed' thoughts regarding Gong and SHB (and Bill Nelson) material but didn't know where to post where it would be appreciated - maybe this is the place! I've learned a hell of a lot since getting the Gong/SHB gig in 2009 - from learning the (surprisingly difficult) material - to learning to play the fretless with an intense and solid feel. Let me know if there's interest out there and maybe I'll start another thread.
Well... surprising in the way that... a discussion about Gong & related stuff (...which has actually happened before here, if my memory serves me!) ..is much more popular than I would have imagined!.... (I always seemed to be the 'fringe dweller' with my musical likes, in my youth...but I obviously wasn't alone!)...during which, a current Gong bass player pops up to share his experience..... appreciated! .....a guitarist friend of mine visits Basschat because he finds it much more interesting & 'genuine' than many of the guitar forums... which he feels are predominantly populated by pubescent egos trying to out shred each other!.... Bring on the bass themed thoughts! ... This is exactly the place for them!
3. I bought two of these almost a year ago... Only ever seem to use one of them for rehearsals, so I'm thinking of moving the other on to clear some space & generate a bit of cash (...times is hard at the mo!) I'm not really into shipping them & would prefer pick up or mutual drive meeting place to do the deal.... (I gave the boxes to my son for storage before he went to New Zealand!) Only ever gigged twice.... Great condition, complete with Roqsolid cover.. [s] £190[/s] ...NOW £180 - SOLD! Roqsolid cover still available - £25 posted...... any takers? Spec: 210MBE • 8 ohms • 400 watts • Speakon and 1/4” input • Two 10” neodymium speakers • 23.5x19.5x14.75 • 30 lbs.
4. Another life long Gong fan here!... Mike Howlett has always been a big influence & inspiration... It was great to see him on the 2009 tour in Bristol with Hillage & Miquette too!... A fantastic gig! This is a great thread..... Very surprising & informative ...That's what I like about Basschat!... Great bass sound on the Hillage vid btw!...
5. Very Cool!.... I love these kinds of patterns ... I nicked a similar one from Alan Thompson (off a John Martyn live album) that was similar but with a flat fives diminished flavour.... I'll shamelessly nick this too, thanking you kindly Sir!
6. That's pricey! .....Some information here about his gear (free to look!) http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/bass.html
7.
Everyone needs something 12" and purple
8. A great pedal.... I bought one new a while back, use it all the time!
9. I've used Korg GT-3's for many years now... really a very good tuner but needs to be on a tuner out loop from head (doubtful if it's true bypass) Recently I needed one on my board, so I bought a pitchblack... very impressed with it, accurate, easy to see.... top marks!
10. hmm... Well I was disappointed with the last one at Ashton Gate.... Over priced (for what it was) limited bass gear, stuffy demo room up the stairs at the back, noisy.... Came out with a headache from the constant testosterone charged guitar w@nking! ...bah humbug!
11. Just got in from a massive drive back from Skegness!... Played at a Butlins 70's weekend.. picked up a dep singer in Leicester on the way up (on Friday eve) Did an afternoon set after a Lionel Ritchie tribute, today ...dropped our dep back in Leicester on our way home to Bristol...... (Drummer had to continue on to Taunton!) Sheesh! that was a lorra lorra miles!
12. Used to use one a lot, to drop to a D, until I got a 5 string.... Always found it really accurate, once set up...& sometimes fun to use as an effect whilst playing... Michael Manring kinda takes the use of them (on all four strings) to an extreme!... Not everyone's cup of tea ...but you gotta admire his work...I think this track is pretty cool.... +1 to Mark at Bass Direct being a top guy...
13.
I had the opportunity to a/b them both and I preferred the character of the sft over the more normal sounding bb...don't get me wrong the bb is superb, it's a really good quality overdrive sound that makes a multidrive sound very one dimensional indeed. Both the SFT and BB retained the original tone really well within the final sound, the thing that swund it was the 'torn speaker' type sound that the SFT gives me on low gain settings, really nice fattening without overwhelming gain
cool... I get ya! Seem to be using mine on a low gain setting, permanently on at the moment! .... it's just such a usable tone like that.... although it's capable of so much more... See how things develop... Really pleased with it, anyway!
14.
I got me a Catalinbread SFT and it's doin the job very nicely! Thanks for your input chaps!
Did you try the BB in the end?.... Never got to try that one myself.... SFT is certainly doing the job for me though, too!

17. Another Bump.... Just in case anyone wants it..............................
18. For most of the work I do, I don't really use most of the stuff on my 9 pedal Pedaltrain board... & after having a bit of trouble with noise at a gig a while back, I lost a bit of confidence in having loads of stuff plugged in that I rarely use! So I've put a smaller board together... A guitarist I work with a lot calls it my 'Ladies board' ...I'm a firm believer that size isn't important! & I'm loving the tone I'm getting out of that SFT!
