1.
I don't buy the 'cab tolerance' thing - in my opinion if it was designed properly it wouldn't be an issue. I used mine for three gigs with the same cab, was fine until gig three at which point the cutting out began. As far as I can tell, they either suffer from pretty poor quality control or are built wrong. Either way, I would never recommend one.
Yes, if it was designed with a bit more tolerance cab wise then they'd be great. I have noticed on some websites that they say the PFs were designed to work with the PF cabs, which makes sense. So I guess Ampeg designed them specifically for those cabs. Anyhoo, my second PF-500 failed on me last week. Using the same 4x8" + 1x15" it's worked with flawlessly for 8 months, quiet little click, fault light came on and that was that. I called Digital Village who arranged a courier to pick it up yesterday. Today I got a full refund. No questions, no hassle. Perhaps they've had a few back.
 2. Just sold my NS Design NXT to Nathan. Prompt payment, no hassles and a pleasure to meet. What a great guy to deal with!
 3.
I use a literal pinch motion, with my thumb touching the string for the harmonic and my index finer plucking behind it. I always seem to get a bit more out of them by bending. They can be very useful, eg: in a 3 piece covers band, playing the 2nd (octave higher) guitar part in the intro of "Are you gonna go my way". I can't imagine why any bass player wouldn't use them in this context, but I rarely see them played.
I don't use them any more put that's how I did it. But using the nail on my index finger to pluck the string. I learnt it from a Billy Sheehan video back in the 80s.
 4.

I was just coming to ask what cab was being used and to point out that the PF-500 seems to have very little tolerance cab impedance wise...
 5. Cheers for this, downloading now. I love Sabotage, but I prefer Gratitude for distorted bass lines.

 7.
No, I want to plug a bass and then either a keyboard or mp3 player or drum machine. Thanks everyone, it helps a lot.
Ah, then the £35 one will suffice.
 8. I've had a Behringer 12 channel mixer for about 5 years without a hitch. They do stuff that's suitable from about £35 1 mono and 2 stereo input: http://www.gak.co.uk...-xenyx-502/1079 If you wanted to plug Keyboard, MP3 player and drum machine in stereo and a bass (so 3 stereo and 1 mono) you're looking at £72: http://www.gak.co.uk...bus-mixer/36011 EDIT: Took me along time to type that...
 9. ANTA. Can't embed the video though... 10. I'm a fairly aggressive player, using picks and fingers. I used to use Rotosound wounds and would get about 6 hours of live/band practice use out of them before they were too dull, for my liking. D'Addarios last around 10-12 hours, but I have a set of DR Neons on my Stingray and they've clocked up about 20 hours and are still sounding good. It's taken me 20 years you realise cheaper strings are false economy.
 11.
As a Pearl Jam "neutral" I watched the first 15 minutes and found it really dull and not engaging, poorly shot and edited. I didn't stick with it, which is most unlike me.
If I wasn't a Mother Love Bone/Temple of the Dog/Pearl Jam fan I would probably feel the same way. But I am, so the film is fantastic!
 12. I saw it at a small cinema when it was released. I left the cinema feeling like I'd been to a gig... I got the Bluray for xmas. It's a great film, I watched it again a couple of days ago. I like the bass he was using for their early live stuff, looked like a Jazz with a P p-up added between the Js
 13.
My neighbours were getting nervous....I'll tell them the good news...:-)
14. I love the bass line in Gratitude! I also love this video
 15. I agree with the coming back being the problem. I can be playing away quite happily then I think to myself I should concentrate on what I'm playing more. Then it all goes wrong. I find myself zoning out in band practice more than live though, so it's not too much of a problem.
 16. From the Zoom website: "Maximum output level: [line]+5dBm(Output load impedance 10kΩ or higher)"
 17.
Gone.....
Thank god for that! I was beginning to break...
 18. It just remind us of things like this...
 19. I haven't had any issues with my PF-500. Originally I thought I had an issue with it cutting out, but then found out the 4Ohm cab wasn't 4Ohms due to it being rewired badly. Playing into a 4x8" and 1x15" I've had no problems using a Fender P, Warwick Corvette nor a Stingray.
 20. JUst imagine a Bongo in that style!
 21.
Oops, sorry chief - it'll be worth it!
It's not your fault I'll blame one of my dogs... like I always do...
 22. Looking forward to getting home and checking this thread. All I can see in work are blank posts.
 23.
Gotta put in a bit of taint as well. Saw them play loads with clutch back in the day.
Did Clutch ever play without them when they came to Wales? It always amused me how Taint played one of Clutch's most famous songs when they were the support... Anyone mentioned: Shrinebuilder Spirit Caravan The Hidden Hand Dozer Greenhaven 500' of Pipe UFOMammut Los Natas
 24.
Yeah yeah yeah! I use 2 4x8's now Liam, so this baby is a footstool!
Bugger! I'm wanting to go to 2 1 x15s. Could have traded my 4 x 8 for it...
