1. Just started listening to it. I like it already and I'm less than 2 minutes into it! Fantastic bass tone and some Hammond organ!
  2. No 2 of my basses are the same colour. Apart from the black and maple Stingray and Steve Harris sig Fender colour is the lowest priority.
  3. Apparently they're back on form. I'm just downloading the album from emusic.com and I have a ticket for the Brizzle show (most I've paid to see one band for a very long time)
Thanks for going out of your way to record samples and even comparisons bartleby, will check these out tonight! What are your thoughts on the Sansamp model?
I'll record some later for you. Any settings preferences? Passive or active bass?
Yes, thanks for the soudclips, I really appreciate it...cheers! I assume that's been recorded directly into your PC, no amp/cab involved?
As before, straight into the audio input, into Audacity.

Here's the first of the comparisons. But which is which? Small Stone vs 4-Phaser. http://soundcloud.co...tte/small-stone Bass Big Muff (Norm setting, tone 100%, Sustain/Gain 100% Blend 100%) http://soundcloud.co...e/big-muff-norm Bass Big Muff (Bass Boost setting, tone 100%, Sustain/Gain 100% Blend 100%) http://soundcloud.com/warm_leatherette/big-muff-bass Bass Big Muff (Dry setting, tone 100%, Sustain/Gain 100% Blend 50%) http://soundcloud.com/warm_leatherette/big-muff-dry
I have a Squier as a backup bass. Wouldn't use it as my main bass: sound is good, but it rattles everywhere and the bridge is terrible. Would the crowd notice? Unlikely. Do you like to play with basses rattling everywhere and which are impossible to set up properly? Well if the crowd won't notice, why not? BECAUSE IT WOULD KILL YOUR FUN.
Not at all. I've played with some proper pieces of crap basses. It sounded good and I still had fun. Needed to retune between every song, but that's no big deal. I guess there's some people who just get on with playing and there's some who will only play if everything is perfect.
Yup, that's how I remember them
I guess I'm just not that fussy. The stuff works and sounds fine. I'll just use any old crap if it sounds ok.

Just done a quick recording of the overdrive, distortions and fuzzes from Zoom B3. Each recorded: i) all settings 50% ii) gain 100% rest 50% iii) gain 100% tone 100% rest 50% All with blend at 50% 1) Overdrive 2) Bass Muff 3) T Scream 4) Dist 1 5) Squeak 6) Fuzz Smile 7) Great Muff 8) Metal http://soundcloud.co.../b3-od-dis-fuzz Excuse the dodgy playing. If you want any redone with specific settings let me know I'll chuck up the EHX / B3 pedal comparisons tomorrow. I'm now off to Bristol to see Earth. EDIT: bear in mind this is just the fx, going straight into the computer from the audio output of the B3. Through an amp and can they sound much better. It's also using a Stingray with the eq flat.
  9.
Now I have gas for an avb5 :-(
yeah! This one is lovely!!
  10.
I find that if you've been playing songs without a click track, for most of them you'll have developed subtle tempo changes which know-one notices until you start trying to play to a click. It's possible to play to a click with "feeling", but some of your songs might not suit it - they might need the subtle tempo changes.
Yep. I discovered that when my band's drummer quit and I started programming drum machines, using rehearsal recordings. Some of the songs drifted my 5- 10 bpm from verse to chorus. You couldn't really tell listening to it. but the idea of sorting click tracks for all the songs makes me break out in a cold sweat...
  11.
Even if you had the cash spare, what could you do with it. Really. Especially if you respect the history of the instrument.
Gig with it. What's the point in owning a musical instrument if you ain't going to use it.

    New Zoom B3

I shall try and do some comparision recordings of the bass big muff and small stone this weekend.
  13. Well done! Top photo too!
  14. Now I have confidence in my PF-500 I'm loving it. We did a quick demo recording last night. 11 songs in a hour. Had to DI the bass from the Ampeg, to try and reduce the spilling to other mics. But it sounds great! I'm seriously tempted to get 2 of the 1x15" cabs...
  15. First up was Tricky - Maxinquaye Now some Oren Ambarchi (new album was released on Monday, I think. It's very very good) Then I'll move on to the Dirty Three*'s new album. *Warren Ellis's, of Bad Seeds/Grinderman fame, other band.

I have a Bass BIg Muff and a Small Stone. I also have the 2 modelled in one patch on the B3. I have yet to totally dial it in but it's actually very close. The dual band compressor is pretty much the same as my Ashdown dual band comp. Again it needs some fine tweeking. I'd say at a gig 99.9% of the audience won't be able to tell.
  17.
Murdoc Nicholls. Not the best/most interesting bassist by far, but he had a nice use of the occasional dirt effect and some cool basslines, as well as being the fourth member of Muse. Cool guy.
His stuff in The Sensless Things is better than anything he's done since IMHO!
  18. Currently using D'Addario rounds on most of my basses and DR Neons on my Stingray, which is my main bass these days.
  19. I recently bought my first multi fx pedal, a Zoom B3, since the first Zoom bass one (506 bass). I have separate pedals too. The B3 is great for trying out different types of fx without spending a fortune. My plan is if I use, say an auto wah, consistently for a while I'll go and buy a dedicated one. The B3 will also be my DI box if needed too.
  20.
Fagin's in Taffs Well
Ah. I played in a cramped pub on Saturday night in Pontypool and clunked my Stingray...
  21. Here's the last photo I took of mine. But now the B3 runs in Loop A and my PolyTune is back.
  22.
Went to a pub not far from me to see a band last night. Very good they were too. I went to check out the venue more than anything else as we'll be out gigging soon. Don't know whether this is typical but they were 'shoe horned' in one corner, must have been no bigger than 10' by 10'. The guitarist literally had to move to avoid crashing into peeps as they got up to dance. At one point I noticed the bass player 'twang' his nice Stingray against the wall which quite understandably made him wince!
What pub was that?
  23. They're a great band. Don't take themselves too seriously either:
