1. My (actually my wife's, but she doesn't play any more) Squire should have bridge and pickup covers, except I've misplaced the pickup one. I really like the look with them both on.
 2. The wiki article is pretty good
 3.
Missed it, is it on iPlayer or whatever? Bit of a fan when the mood takes me.
It's on iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00l6dhm All the hairs on my neck keep standing up. If it's like that just watching the tv I've really got to make more of an effort to see him live...
 4.
Can I have an effect? A genuine Pearce BC1 Pre amp with the 2stage Sheehan distortion mod,and HUSH..
That makes 2 of us... I had a chance to buy one, cheap, years ago but didn't. I'd also like my Trace Elliot MP11 back (I got it from Funky Junk and apparently was part of Entwistle's set up, it had been modified for rear inputs). I sent it in to a place for a service, the shop went bankrupt and took my MP11 with it.
 5. I've recorded it and shall be watching it shortly...
 6.
I flogged my akai deep impact for £80
Ouch. I bought my Deep Impact for £75 brand new. I've learned never to sell anything as you'll regret it at some point.
 7. I took me a few year for the regret to set in, but hacking my SB Elite and installing a Dimarzio Model One... Oh and throwing my Dean Edge 4 off the stage at a gig. The bass had only been in my possession for about 4 hours. Of course, I didn't know I had done this until I opened the case at the next band practice and noticed cracks around the pots. Fortunately it came off pretty well... I blame a let set time and way too much free booze... but remember the funny thing about regret is, It's better to regret something you have done, Than to regret something you haven't done.
 8.
Ibanez BTB isn't string thru body so that ferule would get in the way. They are mono-rail bridges, I have some in my Peavey 6-string. The MR-2 has you hook the ball-end into the bridge and then a magnet pulls it and it hooks in place so it's in the body and under the brig=dge but not a string thru.
erisu was the previous owner of my BTB. I was actually sat here wonder how the bridges worked. I'd never have thought of a magnet... cheers.
 9. What kind of FX are you looking for? I have a mate who wants a sitar ...
 10.
For £600, I would say a S/H Lakland 55-01 is the best option! I haven't played one yet but i heard the B string is the best in this price range (and maybe even giving more expensive 5-string basses a run for their money!) The 01 lakland's also have Bart's MK1 pickups and pre-amps which the SR505 use too. Im even on the verge of getting a 44-02 deluxe through the take it away finance scheme
I agree, I wasn't suggesting buying a Canyon III, it's just interesting that the reviewer said the I was a better buy than the II.
 11. Kongo I think I've tracked some black hardware down. A dealer has got back to me saying the MR-2s in Cosmic Black are £15 each and there's a 10 week lead time. He's coming back to me for the price on tuners...
 12. Here's the conclusion from the BGM review of the Canyons:
Certainly, these basses offer good value for money and at a snip under £300, the Canyon I is an excellent bass with its powerful EQ. Although the Canyon III is the most expensive, the extra expenditure is worthwhile as it certainly feels the most polished and finished of the instruments tested here but at £300 more than the Canyon I, is that added cost worthwhile and is the player getting £300 worth of added benefit? There are already plenty of excellent basses around the £600 priceband on the market, however, this bass did play well, sounded good with a varied tonal palette and if narrow string spacing is to your taste this may be worth investigating. Unfortunately for the Canyon II, it sits in that difficult middle position between the cheapest and most expensive models under scrutiny here and in this case falls short. I would even go as far to say that the Canyon I felt more comfortable and sounded better. With the added options of five-string, fretless and left hand models, the Canyon range is certainly worth investigating and gains three stars, the I and III versions being the strongest contenders for your cash.
13.
I was going to change the hardware but realised it's not good for me because of the neck. If I was to get some replacement parts for this bass if I have kept it, I would either of: - Located an Ibanez dealer and asked for the parts I need - Source parts from 3rd party companies. I heard hipshot make replacement bridges for the BTB? Check our www.bestbassgear.com (in U.S though but ordered through them before and they are excellent!) - As for the tuners and knobs, i was going to go with Hipshot tuners (or maybe gotoh ones?) and just normal standard knobs. Glad you are getting used to the fat neck!
I was thinking Hipshots for the knobs and tuners and, for simplicity, Ibanez bridges. Cheers for the link too, looks like a good place.
 14.
17mm spacing. Slightly less than the 5-string but DO NOT rely on numbers on paper like I used to, it's hardly a noticable difference. The neck is UBER wide but as it tapers out it gets thinner. So near the headstock the neck is thin enough but at the last fret it becomes thinner and almost flat! So under your hands the neck plays the same all along. It's actually one of my easiers basses to play...I'd use it in my band still but the tone doesn't work for me in this style...But I play it alot at home for Primus and Piano style tapping. The Ibanez BTB556MP is the 6-string of the generation after your BTB405 which I also have, but just like this it is discontinued so good luck! It's one of my best built basses too! I took it completely appart once to have a nose around and when I took the neck off I was shocked! I expected to catch and maybe sand down some of the rubish that gets caught and compressed over time when they drill the holes etc...NOPE it was COMPLETELY CLEAN! Not ONE fault with this bass, even the frets are perfect as you can get and unlike my BTB405QM, it's almost completely free of deadspots too so will sustain like no other. Obviously I LOVE it I will never sell this one, and my 5-string is one to my collection. I must get a picture up here to ya.
Cheers. I am seriously tempted by the BTB676, but it'll have to wait. I've got the ok from the wife to get a VMJ Fretless in the next couple of months. I may wait until the end of the year for a 6 string... I'm getting used to the 405 pretty quickly. I've just changed the jack socket as the old one had a loose connector in it and the pots need changing. I'm going to see about changing the hardware for black stuff, the current hardware is a bit pitted and corroded.
 15. Here's my battered SB-Elite I. See if you can guess who my major influence was in the late 80s...
 16.
Same spacing as the 4-string (19mm) so yes, it takes some getting used to. If you slap you'll have unlimited room!
I'm getting there! I notice you have a 6 string BTB. What's the string spacing on that?
 17. I acquired a BTB405 on Saturday. I love it. Once I get used to the wide neck I'll really love it...
 18. I found even their Octaver pedal to be a bit rubbish. I wouldn't go near a synth pedal. Not without a serious try out first...
 19. I can't remember my first ever gig, too long ago. But I imagine it was rather scared. After a long non-gigging period I was asked to be a stand in bassist for my mate's band. I had 3 days to learn 10 original songs and about 5 covers. At the time I was having work done to the house so I was up the in-laws. I was learning the songs using a dodgy old CD walkman and an unplugged, borrowed, bass. We had one band practice the night before the gig. It was only in a pub and I got scared during the sound check, and my forearms and hands literally wouldn't work. After the sound check I had a few Newkie Browns and relaxed. I rearranged the setlist to get the most difficult song over with first and followed it with an easy, but fun, cover. The entire pub sang along with the cover and I chilled right out. I love gigging! Shame I'm not in a band at the moment...
 20. Hi guys, I've been reading BC for a while now, joined a couple of weeks ago. I thought I'd better introduce myself. I'm in my 30s, been playing bass for pretty much 20 years. In that time I've been in a few gigging bands, playing rock, metal and punk. I've bought a few basses and sold a few. I gave up on expensive basses years back due to being clumsy. Currently own a totally mauled 80s Aria SB Elite (damn you Billy Sheehan!! ) and a Dean Edge 4, a growing collection of FXs and an old Peavey amp and a Laney 4x10 cab. I'm older, wiser and have more money these days, so I'm planning upgrading my stuff... I look forward to spending more time here!
