Don't limit yourself to a 115... I'd go for another 410 myself. You sure the amp will drive at 2ohm, tho..?
-
Unnfortunately, this thread rings pretty true. For a custom wind, go to Newtone as they have their own machines. Best strings I have used for ages and I've tried most.

I consider small being anything upto about 20lbs in weight. I'd consider an old SWR 220, ( or SM400/500) pre Fender, superb components and decent 4 band semi parametric EQ. Or a Thunderfunk 550-B..which is a modern take on the SWR. I'd expect those 2 choices to be infinantly better made amps than your list..and available from £200 to £600 second hand.

Never my first choice but had a dep ( for a mate ) last night where I would have killed for a drum machine. I spent all night trying to be the drummer, not sure what the drummer was trying to be..!!

Deppin for a mate. tough gig.

A couple of NYC Sadowsky's for the price of a metro...!!!

I wouldn't be driving ther power stage of a TE amp to the max as I wouldn't expect it to be a good enough amp to do that very well. The OP's current way of doing sounds the best to me. I'd suggest either the other bass player had a certain sound in mind..but he retains less control over it and therefore it might get quirky from gig to gig, or he doesn't know any differnet.

Auditioned for a fab new band last night ... and got it!!!
Well done mate, I think that's going to be a far more interesting, challenging and ultimately satisfying gig than RB. C
and maybe the band you were looking for the other day, Chris..? -
In that case, I'd be tempted to look into an alternative speaker for your cab. Maybe PM Gilento as he might have put a NEO in a GS112 cab..IIRC. and he is a very helpful chap as well. I brought my spare GS speaker from him
Do venues really volunteer for these things? I thought they were something Environmental Health installed after the neighbours complain.
Doubt it...more likely that it is conditional on getting a license if there have been complaints/issues

I sometimes use these as a small gig rig with a SWR SM400 amp which I am keeping for the time being 300watts, 8ohms per cab. Both with Tweeter. Both VGC but one has the carpet a tad ruffled, so I'd want £225 for that and £250 for the VVGC £450 the pair collected. I am on the M20 in Kent. PIcs to follow
Just wondering what the best 410 bass cab I can get with a budget of £600 is? I want something not too heavy and that pairs up nicely with a Genz Benz Shuttle 9 and Hartke LH1000. Many thanks Freddie
Best value..?? I would offer a SWR goliath second-hand, but not the lightest. Lighter cabs, ?? there is the Epifani 310 or EBS proline
I always wonder about the guys using the smaller single 12 cabinets how you get on with them. You ever struggle for level or monitoring on stage? I know quite a few players using the single Markbass 12's, mostly for portability purposes, something that living up north I've never struggled with because transport has never been an issue (up until last month I had a big Eden rig), however I'm guessing that if I ever make the move to London I'll need to downsize my rig to be able to get around as well. Just curious to know your experiences really!
My own personal view is that single 12"s aren't anywhere near enough for a kicking band on a decent size stage or outside. You might be able to hear them in your own monitor space, but the rest of the band wont..and the gig might suffer from that. But... if you pair them up then you have a much better and bigger sound than you'd expect..so much so, IME. FWIW... if the stage is a decent size, I'll run 2x210 over 2x112 I've heard many a little Markbass 112 combo try..and the FOH does kick in but if you get anywhere near the stage, the sound is weedy, IMO. I just think it is asking a lot from a single 12..to keep up with punchy gtr and drums. If you added an ext cab then you'd be in a far better place soundw-ise IMO. I play with a light touch and a single 12 is a jazz gig only for me.

On a ferry, I'd be more worried about a clean power supply.

Is there no way to make the bass run passive in the event of an emergency?
-
GS112 cabs are a bit hollow in a mid frequency... I get past that with brighter strings..and then they are fantastic. Whether that is the answer for you is an other question. Not sure I'd run a DB and GS together myself... even though the chassis speaker is the same so a NEO may be an alternative. FWIW..I might be selling 2 GS cabs and maybe a spare chassis speaker....haven't decided yet.
Forgive me for a brief thread diversion but loads of places we've played have required the band to have PLI. Two pretty standard questions are: "What level of PLI cover do you have?" and "is all you gear PAT tested?" Is this unusual?
PAT testing is pretty basic and they are covering themselves, so I think this is reasonable. Most bands have it, or should, IMV...and not getting into the debate about how useful it is, etc etc.. We are investigating PLI at the moment..not sure where we are with it as it happens, so must check, but we find outside stages and one -offs in this regard, ask for it..even though most of the gear is hired in by them..stages, etc .. Again, I am off the opinion that this is the venues deal, and they might want to offset against what you have. It does make me nervous to have heavy stuff up on stands that might crash into someone..somehow, anyhow... so I think it has its uses...if only for piece of mind. I think if the venue asks for it, they are looking for all bands to have it... as it isn't much use having half and half.. You might find it may get you the gig against a band that doesn't have it, but I can't think venues would get a license without their own PLI. If you do enough work, then you should look into it ...as we are.
Ditto! I'm using the 550 and a pair of DB112s I can't imagine anything better and it took me several years of trialling Neo driver loaded cabs and class D heads to arrive at the conclusion that they just didn't do it for me despite my wanting to shed as much weight as possible from my rig... I don't need to compromise with the TF/Aggies!
Yep TOTALLY agree. Even the vagarities of rooms doesn't throw these babies off the scent. I love the surprise that different room dynamics throw up..but it is all on the plus side.from a tone POV.

[sup]I use TF and Ag cabs...and they sound great. Hard to get a bad sound out of the amp..and I hardly touch the EQ.[/sup] [sup]The basses help here, of course, IMO.[/sup] [sup]This is my middle stage rig...and I am toying with getting a bigger one but haven't found this running out of steam yet.[/sup] [sup]I also have a small 400w rig..for stages that need a small footprint[/sup]

For £1000, my list would have Glock, Thunderfunk and Aguilar DB on it... all SH prices... but then I wouldn't be confident of how they would match up with the Ampeg. For Straight ahead rock, I might even think Orange valve amps or a Hiwatt. The TF packs a mighty punch for its weight, amps up well, and is very well made..it is also pretty hard to get a bad sound out of IME.. I haven't seen inside the Ag or Glock but would expect the same.

Caffe Americano in Swansea, Wales... terrible management :(
JTUK replied to BigBassBob's topic in General Discussion
I think the lesson is to vet the gigs as much as they vet you. Not always possible, but venues either do things properly or they don't and then you decide if you want to be a part of what they do or not. There are quite a few pubs round here we have decided not to pursue or persevere with... and that cuts down gigs, but so be it. It is supposed to be fun..first and foremost ..or a shed load of money otherwise, but even then, I'd be in the not worth it camp, mostly. -
