1. come along now gents, A predominantly male discussion group discussing methods of improving wrist stamina and no one has mentioned 99 then change hands ?
2.
Damp squib in Leeds getting damper - so we we unleashed our secret weapon halfway through the 2nd set. Mustang Sally - the tune so collectively hated by us snobby musicians. 3 lookers straight up on stage to be backing singers ......... morphed the ending into Lulu's 'Shout'................... place went mental. Back into our regular rocking set with our newly found audience still going nuts all the way to the end and screaming for more. Lesson to be learned , folks.
for parties ,theres no doubt that old favourites are favourites for a reason , Summer of 69 works in a similar manner
3. A busy weekend for the Razors A 40th party on Friday, went really well , we were a tad loose and changed the set on the fly to keep the crowd lively but it worked well. Last night it was another 40th but the lead guitarists youngster had a bad temperature and it is a recurrence of a previous issue so was touch and go , but reckoned he could join us for an hour if her temperature leveled out. after some quick hashing for the first set , he called to say he would get there in 20 mins , so we held off and nailed it , after 3 songs of the second set he got a call and had to go, so we winged / chopped and changed and got through OK , the birthday boy was chuffed with the show after being very nervous when he new the guitarists/our problems. As everyone was up for a dance by this point, I think artistic detail was less important than a good singalong , still the rhythm guitar stood up to the plate and his confidence carried it. The youngster is getting better today , but they were close to calling ambulences last night .
4. I still get the big I am , from a few angles , mostly customers , who generally have been given advice by mates in the pub that are experts in everything after a couple of pints. Generally , if someone needs to argue how 20 years of experience gives them one up on you , you might find that they only have one years experience and it is 20 years old !! Learning to handle/ignore/influence/learn from these people is what your experience will teach you .
5. Welcome No ( if I may be so familiar)
6. Cheers Andy, could do that , but just less kit is good , as is less set up , if it was my own stuff supporting the idea I could get on with it but the old Pareto principle comes in , you spend 80% more effort for a 20% sound improvement , or something like that . Some might say sound is all , but a harmonious band atmosphere helps aswell !!
7. It sounds like there are no shortcuts on this one then , thanks for your advice. I do like the thump , but the guitards don't really get it , and bringing more kit is feasable but in the bands the guys used to play in the sound stage got to a ridiculous point that they got to a pub 3-4 hrs early to set up . I think they get a bit nervy when I propose more kit and set up , Ah well , simple is good I suppose, I guess as we are called Okkams Razor , I shouldn't be trying to complicate the matter
8. I am sure there are any number of valid reasons not to , and I guess I will get them, but I had a thought ...... we have a fairly minimal band set up , but some think that the kick drum needs a bit of oomph. we have no subs jsut PA tops , so, would it be possible to put a kick mic (via a pre) through a power amp and share my shcroeder 210112 to thump it out ? The cab takes a fair bit of power , and I am aware of muddying the tone with bass and kick frequencies , but to keep the kit to a minimum , does the idea have legs , or will I blow my rig to pieces . thanks in advance
9. Ha , they'll all have to get the pencils out again now , you really do enjoy the 'suck it and see' method don't you
10. samson here , great bit of kit , but it does chew the batteries , probably 6- 8 hrs in the sender , I have a mains adaptor for the reciever. but have gone rechargeable so its not really an issue
11. I was in Cornwall last month , I even went to see Joe , but it was his day off
12. I think making them might cost a tad more
13. sometimes the heightened nervousness / apprehension focuses the senses and enhances the experience , and sometimes you get a tosser , glad it went well .
We might be doing this with The Terrortones (due to family commitments for our proper drummer) and I'm pretty nervous about it. The drum parts for our songs are pretty much integral to the arrangement and far more than just someone hitting stuff in time. There are also subtle tempo changes stops and starts in the middle of songs, weird bar counts and missing beats all of which will have to be nailed otherwise it's not going to be right.
good luck on this one , you guys do a show , there is more to a show than meets the eye , you have put a lot into the dynamics which can be very subtle , I hope it works out for you .
14.
Don't agree.. I quite liked the sound... already people sound too much the same. Great playing by the way.. great phrasing and ideas.
I loved the tone, phrasing , ideas and great playing , for me I find I often tend to listen for the bass , but on this occasion I was struggling to hear anything else . [heresy] if the bass was to come out for parts , great, but it seemed far to prominent in the mix , each to his own though [/heresy] did I really say that !!!!!!
15.
I think my mileage is most definitely varying on this one. The Missus is watching it and it's driving me mental. Someone get that SR505 off him and thrust a Jazz 5 or summat in his hands. Waaaaaay too forward.
+1 , I was fine for the first 15min then it just wasn't right , a bit irritating really , fine playing but just toooo much of it IMO
16. it could just be some railway track cut into pieces and glued to a tree,
17. decoration , is not decoration , if it is not William Morris by kevin.ahern, on Flickr
18. I might dib in for a touch of that
19. I answered an ad from joinmyband about 2 years ago , I did an audition of sorts, but I just kept going back , I still haven't been told if I am in yet , but Have been gigging for 2 years with them and LOVE every minute of it , I still get miffed if we miss a rehaersal date. I guess I was really lucky , but I guess so are the rest of the guys. I had left my previous band because they put 3 new numbers in in 5 years, these boys put 3 in every rehearsal , fantastic.
20. I played my own birthday party on saturday , well it was at a pub in town , but a top crowd came along and danced the night away , a brilliant night, great fun , re book aswell , happy days .
21.
For crying out loud!! It's for this It has to be done!
Well I guess respect is due, but it does seem like a lot of effort just to stick a mic stand up your arse .
22. I love warwick stuff , and while I grabbed a bargain on a fretless streamer a while back , you do have to be looking for the deal , they are not everywhere , I have a Korean Spector and is my bass of first go to . the margins of manufacture are very very slim nowadays and my ear / palette is not refined enough to tell , and my touchy feely bit doesn't see the label
23. I love the energy of Blackpool and I think the are Noissetes brilliantly evocative and bring the genre alive .
24.
With my covers band, our fee is a minimum £200. Some places pay more, depending on bar-sales, but that is the minimum we play for. We usually say we will do the first for £200, then talk business afterwards. The majority of places now pay us more, as we generate the bar-sales - nothing like a couple of hours of classic punk covers to get large 40+ year old blokes out, drinking plenty of beer on a Friday night.
+ me though sometimes some of the guys see the dollar signs a little early for the parties , and while they do pay a bit better they are often the most enjoyable gigs
25. I knew the weather could do a job on todays events thats why I planned yesterday .........however ........I didn't make it ,due to subsequent engagements cropping up !!!! My sister and BIL went and thoruoghly enjoyed it , so I might have to get it in the diary early for next time !!
