Popping out to see Weeds @Leonard Smalls in town at the weekend , defo 3 of us , maybe more , really looking forward to it 👍
-
i think that’s the wrong Beeston , I was in the Shady Oak in the shadow of the castle only last week, very pleasant it was to. Now Beeston Notts , that was probably gigsville central at the weekend 😁
-
ATTENTION! No Messing About at the back , get stuck in
-
A pinch and a punch for the first of the month , well a round of applause and a pat on the back maybe for both @Chiliwailer and @Wolfram , tied winners in September with superb compositions. Well, onwards and upwards, so to get those itchy fingers back to the instruments , Wolfram has supplied the following for your inspiration. "I glimpsed this ad on the Underground a while back - I was previously unaware that 'non-toxic' was a key selling point for an air fryer! Let's hear your ad jingles, weird and wonderful product endorsements, or songs about air fryers 😆." ✅ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ❌ No Bagpipes, Please, I think they would suffer from the tubular reverberation and sound a bit off. ❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 25th October ... Which really means the last day of summertime , dark nights and closed neighbours windows , thus I can sing as loud as I like A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super duper smashing lovely. Good luck, Have fun

Excellent tunes @Wolfram and @Chiliwailer well done both. I’ll post the new challenge when I have the image
-
been there , ended up depping for the rockaoke , and think I accidentally joined a band … it’s a fund raiser every couple of years organised by an old school friend , it’s great fun
-
I love these sort of events Nantwich do one over Easter, it’s nuts
-
Have you got a link to the weeds tracks you did ? I know I’ve got them somewhere but can’t find them ! Lurksalittle is in town on the 11th with her mates so I’ll let them have a listen and if they are up for it I’ll get them tickets as well

We had a prompt start on the 1st of meteorological Autumn. After a very tight call for August , 1 vote splitting the pack, and with what looked like me giving that vote, congrats to @Chiliwailer, now on a double, seeking the elusive hat-trick I guess, The business in hand , being the chosen image for our inspiration, was, as he explains... "Autumn is coming in with it's stunning sunsets, so given that my photo-choosing creative mojo has dropped under the horizon here's a nice pic that even has some Northern Lights, sea, stars, rocks, and a pensive dude for your muse..." So here are the entries , please have a listen and choose your favourite 3 tracks 1 @Baloney Balderdash An alternate take of an ending scene for a fictive sci-fi western movie 2 @Leonard Smalls Captain Kirk has got a date on the Enterprise Holodeck with Nurse Chapel in his favourite romantic piano bar on Aurora Prime. However, alien microbes have got into the matrix so when Kirk goes to find Christine admiring the view from the bar's private beach he finds she's actually a bloke called Derek from Redditch... 3 Lurksalot Nice sky but... 4 @Chiliwailer Coasting - a deep dreamy kind of vibe that reminds me partly of holidays abroad years back, and partly of British summers in my youth - this tune kind of captures both for me. Though there’s a tiny bit of rock thrown in towards the end too as they were just sat there, scattered on the beach…. 5 @Jean-Luc Pickguard 6 @Wolfram In keeping with trying something different for every entry, I'm going spiritual and ethereal this time, and I present my first choir composition and arrangement, Aurora Caelestis. 7 @upside downer Another poor, shipwrecked sap falls for the sound of the sirens. Though he escaped with his life, he now spends his days tormented as he watches and waits for a ship that never arrives. superb stuff , I love that these pictures bring these tracks together in this little challenge , most excellent. Anyway , pick your favourite 3 and place your X where it suits voting will end midnight on 30th September good luck

I’m still convinced it was Brook st , what was your dads shop, would I remember that on Boughton then ?
-
I think that was on Brook street opposite the Catholic club , the Caspian is on Boughton just along from the Church. if I had kept any receipts it might have had the shop address on them 🙄
-
Could be a kebab fest at the caspian at this rate 😁 buzzing already 👍

I had a few hours to myself today so managed to knock this up, we've got visitors and I'm away for a couple of days so I just about managed to get something done. pretty simple, guitar, bass , EZ drummer a few FX and the dulcet tones of an angel , wrapped in Ozone and oozing gently onto your favourite personal playlist for years of appreciation.

Happy 1st of meteorological Autumn A very tight call for August , 1 vote splitting the pack, and with what looked like me giving that vote, congrats to @Chiliwailer, now on a double, seeking the elusive hat-trick I guess, Anyway, back to the business in hand , with the chosen image for your delight and delectation, he explains... August Composition Challenge VOTING Thread
lurksalot replied to lurksalot's topic in General Discussion
Well done @Chiliwailer , a double , great stuff . if you send a picture I’ll get September’s started. -
Probably the same concerns that arose when recordings became viable , the industry made plenty of money selling reproductions of artists performances , technically not actually real. The money and authenticity now is in the performance again.

We had a reasonably musical family, my nan, mum and uncle all played piano but my uncle played keys in a band in that London, covers and a bit of a party band who did well in the late 60s/early 70s. when he quit, me and my brother inherited his Vox keyboard , AC30 head and a Selmer 2x12 cab . this was awesome and great fun , but a trip to Steptoes in canal street meant £15 was invested on a epiphone Gibson copy , and a rat pedal followed. this lead to some great noises from the garage, that not all the neighbours appreciated. However , Mrs Tristram next door was a touch more enlightened , and happened to mention that her eldest , Graham , had an old guitar that he wasn’t using and was in a box under the bed. And Lo , I became the owner of a late 60’s Hofner violin bass…with a broken neck socket , but hey , I was 17 , had my dads tools, and yes, a couple of wood screws put it back together. Having a bass at school was a novelty and thus I was seconded to play at all the assemblies and school shows. I moved on to an old Fender I think (that would probably with a fortune now , but was pennies or I wouldn’t have bought it) , that went missing as did the keys , amp and cab from a rehearsal room . suffice to say that my brother took on the violin bass duties at school and obviously corrupted @Leonard Smalls after his exposure to its subtle charms 😁

Good morning all, Voting is up and ready for you Lovely stuff in there as well, quite a mellow take on it!

With what amounted to a near runaway victory in these parts, we had a resounding outright July win for @Chiliwailer It was a well supported month with some great material and thus a worthy winner. His choice of inspiration for us ... "It's summer, and if it were possible I know where I'd rather be right now.... I hope you all also find this image of trekking in Yellowstone Park inspiring." So, for the entries , pick your 2 favorites from these 1 @Baloney Balderdash A calm folky instrumental, that seems fitting for the picture and location of it, complete with backwards intro that mirrors the mirror lake of the image : 2 @Chiliwailer Yellowstone Trails - I was initially aiming for a baggy folk type tune, but this somehow evolved with a slight country feel - which was a nice surprise, taking a walk down different trails. 3 @Leonard Smalls When someone says Yellowstone I immediately think of El Capitan, which rises majestically out of Tuolumne Meadows, a mere 811 miles and two states away in Yosemite. So here we have a bit of dub, perfect for watching the sunset from your Portaledge halfway up El Cap's most famous route, The Nose. 4 @Jean-Luc Pickguard Take note of the warning signs and watch where you step. 5 Lurksalot Yellowstone is Just as much grizzly as Disney , a beautiful stroll here ... a grizzly there, a beautiful stroll here ... old faithful steam boiling hot water geyser there , from lovely green valleys to scalded wastelands 6 @upside downer Hey, what's the rush? Life's too hectic. Take a stroll, breathe a little and just enjoy being in the moment. That's all folks With 6 entries I'd suggest 2 votes each this month , so we'll close the poll at midnight on 31st Good luck all
-
A bit rushed with this unfortunately , but Yellowstone is Just as much grizzly as Disney , a beautiful stroll here ... a grizzly there, a beautiful stroll here ... old faithful steam boiling hot water geyser there , from lovely green valleys to scalded wastelands not much technical , Ibby six string with FX , fleabass , EZ drummer and very little talent , through reaper and smeared with a bit of OZone 8
-
I love the pic , I’ll get something , but not banking on picking the photo next month 😁
-
Aaagh first world problems and that, but… had a couple of ideas and thought I’d hook up the phone to Reaper via the interface , but I’ve got a new phone so the pricey cable I bought doesn’t fit the new phone. that’s ok I’ll use the old iPad …no battery , and now I realise I’ve got no ear phones / buds for the new phone ! just when I felt a masterpiece coming on aswell 🤦♂️
