  1. After a welcome return to winning ways for @Leonard Smalls in January, in his usual inimitable style, he offered the following for our inspiration... "Here's a pic for next month entitled "Root Vegetables From South East London"" Have a listen through these to pick your favourite three Voting will close at midnight on the 29th Feb 1 @Leonard Smalls I was tempted to defy the directive and do Putney Parsnip Dub... Then I nearly veered off north of the river to attempt Pimlico Parsnip or even Totenham Turnip Dub. However, because I always do what I'm told, here we have a dubwise celebration of South East London's finest root vegetables. 2 @Dad3353 "I can hear the blood beating though my ear-lobes..! A faint whistling, and birds chirping..! I thought the room was silent, but the whole house emits creaks and groans, and there's a car going by..! Wow..! Silence never sounded so loud..! Far out, man; far out..!" Recorded using Reaper, with no mixing or treatment, so that the full benefit of the auditor's listening experience is as pure as possible. Good on headphones; better yet on a fully-spec'ed hi-fi system, so as to appreciate the Sound of Silence. Chemical enhancement is not required, nor advised; your move may vary. 3 @Doctor J I've never seen it (Withnail) so I just picked a root vegetable and went for it 4 @AndyTravis it was the idea of an 80’s soundtrack. tried a bit of Pino magic here and there, but the kids are in the house bored and noisy…s 5 @upside downer A lazy lollop through Woolworth's looking for hippy wigs. Sit back, have a bit of what you fancy, close your eyes and find your neutral space. 6 Lurksalot . This one took me through 'escape to the country' and to Rupert Holmes' pina colada song , you might catch a reference 7 @Wolfram Our man just wants to chill, but his better half thinks he's too far gone. Can she get through to him? I present "Party". There we have it Another quality and eclectic selection for you Choose your Favourite 3 and put a tick in the appropriate boxes Voting will close at midnight on the 29th Feb
  2. Finelines at Telfords this evening with our @jimmyb625 , tight as a tight thing and a great selection of material .wouldn’t know what genre to pin it in as they played ballads and some superb rockin tunes. I’m not sure if the gigs don’t pay well (being a 7 piece to share the £250) or radio doesn’t pay that well as the drummer has to work in the morning 😉 enjoyed the evening , but had to rush as Mrs Lurks was passing by in her new car , result .
  3. ive just about scraped one together , this month has just flown by , roll on some sun and dry boots ! this one took me through 'escape to the country' and the to Rupert Holmes' pina colada song , you might catch a reference Ibby six string through a couple of waves GTR3 patches, EZ drummer , bass is one of Fleas kiddy bases , and a trumpet patch on adigital piano. add a bit of reverb and Ozone 8 and after all that work ......
  4. hope to be able to get to this, I’ve had it in my diary for a while so I kept the date free 👍,
  5. I have a riff and a rough drum track down, but I am tight on time so …cue the communal sighs of disappointment … the vocal accompaniment might not get done. I will of course try very, very hard to satisfy your craving for such , but don’t be afraid of voting for me if I fail.
  6. That’s probably a decent enough starting point 😁.
  7. Anarchists , the lot of you 😁
  8. A welcome return to winning ways for @Leonard Smalls in January, who in his inimitable style has offered the following for our inspiration... "Here's a pic for next month entitled "Root Vegetables From South East London"" Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes, everyone had the chance last month's last month, so there! ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 23rd (but probably until breakfast on the 24th) A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be lovely. Good luck, Have fun
  9. Well done young Leonard , you have had to wait far too long for another certificate , you’ve been on fire for ages. ping me a photo when you are off the slopes 😁
  10. well I for one will be very happy to listen through those a few times before casting my vote, top drawer , absolutely top drawer here we go .. anyone late to the party, just PM me and I'll see if I can accomodate Dive in
  11. The start of another year of Basschat music making, looking forward to it already. Congratulations to Skankdelvar on his excellent victorious cover for the December challenge, but the honour of the picture choice for January fell to @AndyTravis, who won the November challenge, and he gave us this picture ... 'There we go…a nice cheery image for new year 😂' So that's it then , it's time to listen to the entries and vote for your favourite 3 1 @AndyTravis “You’ll be sorry” - basically just the idea of Technology being introduced into everything… Will it take over? 2 lurksalot Happy families , I was hoping for a slight edge to it , but it's come out as a wholesome waltz! 3 @Leonard Smalls I thought I'd celebrate Albert Hoffman's Bicycle Day a bit early this year 😁😎☠️ In a dreamlike state, with eyes closed, I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. 4 @Wolfram Ok, here is my horribly unfinished entry - I'm out of time - away for work next week, flying early tomorrow. Imagine this with vocoded robot voice musing on not losing sight of having fun and letting life pulse by mechanically - being more like the children in the photo than the adults. 5 @Doctor J The disintegration of the family unit due to overindulgence in technological quick highs can only be stopped by those who truly value and embrace the human experience... or forget to charge their phones. 6 @SH73 What a shame , a brilliant picture, but will have to leave this one out, not enough time in a day. Unless a 30 seconds intro I started would suffice. Rather than watching rubbish on telly or having an early night, here we go. 7 @upside downer Robot holds kids to ransom and maniac father tries to pay the droid off with an unsuitable offering then threatens violence to the droid who just wants a bit of TLC, or something like that. Warning! Puntastic Chili Peppers outro lyric! 8 @MoonBassAlpha Robots in the picture looking liverish after Christmas. A bit of dubby electronica should cheer them up! There we are then, a quality bunch of tracks that really fit the brief and a great start to the year . Vote for your favourite 3 Voting will close at midnight on 31st January enjoy Lurks
  12. Unlucky there Douglas , I do recall you had a very good acoustic guitar VSTi at one point mind

You could do worse than an ‘all-in-one’ I have an old Lenovo that is still just about up to the job. I am looking to upgrade but the last box I tried went back as it had a pathetic power supply attachment.
  14. I get a few days off this time of year and normally get a bit of time to sort the garden, but it's been persistently raining so I got a chance to stay indoors ! Happy families , I was hoping for a slight edge to it , but it's come out as a wholesome waltz Ez drummer does his job, a few strings via garage band on iPad, I play the rest on piano, Gretsch Junior Jet bass and an Ibby 6 string through waves gtr3, ozone 8 to rinse it off all in Reaper
  15. Congratulations Mr Delvar , the music business arm of the mighty Delvar Industrial corporation appears to be on fine form 😁
  16. Happy New Year everyone . For those of you who have no parties to go to tonight, you're in luck. You get a few hours jump on the January challenge
  17. Well done to @AndyTravis who won the November challenge, he has given us this picture to post for the January challenge... 'There we go…a nice cheery image for new year 😂' Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes , everyone had the chance last month, so there! ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th (but probably until tea time on the 25th) A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be lovely. Good luck, Have fun
  18. I’ll try and add it later , but if you check the SoundCloud permissions are not set to private , I might be able to edit the voting thread
  19. I have a couple of temporary links which I will sort in due course
  20. Happy Christmas one and all, It's official, it's time to have a listen to the Basschat collective offering for the annual cover song challenge. Some of these have been recorded during the year and some have been recorded for the challenge, but they are all just a celebration for the end of term. Normal voting rules apply, choose your favourite 3, and the winner gets the kudos of printing one of Douglas's iconic certificates. 1 @sammybee My effort is a cover of Tom Misch's - It Runs Through Me recorded by my daughter and I earlier this year this is a Temporary link to the challenge thread I will update in due course 2 @Dad3353 As it's all we have from this past year, here's a medley of 'punter's' videos, taken at our rare outing, 3 @AndyTravis It DOES have to be a Christmas track 😂 4 @ezbass A recorded rehearsal with my band from earlier this year. A rough recording, even more roughly mastered in GarageBand (I don't know what I'm doing really). 5 @Leonard Smalls For the cover challenge I thought I'd do a completely original song wot is all my own work. Any similarity to the Sylvester disco classic with a very similar name is purely co-incidental! This also features my wife on backing vox! 6 @Nail Soup This is a song I've been meaning to cover for a couple of years now, but never found an approach I've been happy with - until now 7 @MoonBassAlpha I've chosen the Kula Shaker tune Start All Over from their "K" album, as it's got a Beatles - like vibe, and I thought my friend Rob would enjoy singing it (massive Beatles fan) With invaluable input from Phil Beavis (organ) and Paul Ibbott (Horn section), the guitar, bass, backing vocals and drums are me. Tried to keep this fairly close to the original this time, subject to my own limitations! 8 @SH73 I decided to cover the Blade Runner 1982 soundtrack the end song that has been used as an intro on Somewhere on Tour in 86 and The Future Past Tour in 2023 9 @upside downer I've recorded a version of the Pink Panther theme using the arrangement that the superb Russian surf-pop band Messer Chups use on their track Pink Pantheratu 10 Lurksalot I got Lurksalittle to help out on this one 11 @skankdelvar What ho! It's an old Joe Jackson song that's got nowt to do with Christmas and featuring Mr Gordon Gecko. 12 @BreadBin late entry A great way to end the recording year , I've really enjoyed it and look forward to doing it all again next year. 3 votes each, voting will finish at midnight on the last day of the year. Cheers , Salut , Nostrovia and Slainte Mhath
  21. Well done all , that’s put a smile on my face at least ! I shall start the voting thread shortly , but a last gasp chance for anyone hovering over the ‘send’ button 😁.
  22. Luckily I put my enlightened IT head on , I turned off the computer and turned it back on again, sorted
