  1. I played various assemblies at school and played in a knock up type folk rock outfit in a similar scenario to @Leonard Smalls I think that would be about 17 , I then upgraded my bass and gave my old one to my little Bro. I do remember playing ‘mouldy old dough’ on keys during an interval when my uncles band were played at a Romford working men’s club around 1974 So I’d have been 12 ish on that one 😂
  2. I believe @bassace might have a relevant registration for this topic 😁
  3. I’ve pinned it now , thanks for the bump dear boy 😁
  4. The voting thread is up and running , and I am loving the tune-age offered again , great stuff .
  5. Its that time again .. With an inaugural win, a most excellent and popular entry from @AndyTravis , he was right on the ball with his choice off picture for us. "I’ve had this saved for years - wanted it to be an album cover…I just reminded me of how I was (pre fatherhood) - A class clown, I still chuckle when I see it - it was an early crash helmet test." Have a listen through and choose your favourite 3 entries 1 @Dad3353 The studio burnt down in 1927; all that's left of the film being shot is this intriguing poster photo and a fragment of the film's piano roll, restored here in tribute. We can only speculate on the blockbuster that was sadly lost. 2 @AndyTravis ...so I’d said the idea of my image was that I was an absolute moron for years until fatherhood - a perpetual child. In my teens I lived, breathed and slept the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.... 3 @Leonard Smalls I thought to myself, "that geezer has got the blues"! So that's wot I done... 4 @upside downer Our hero just can't look on the bright side. Whether it be impending world catastrophe or piffling, inconsequential matters, he gets so wound up it all just makes him want to bash his head, as he explains to us alongside a Bo Diddleyesque riff. 5 @NickD The picture invoked memories of doing stupid things with groups of friends, and how while time marches on and we're flung to the far corners of the earth, if we got together today we'd probably be just as daft. 6 @Wolfram I'm telling the story of the death of silent movies and photoplay through the piano roll backing for a silent movie illustrated by the photo. The ageing and dying piano is overtaken by the rising chatter of the 'talkies'. I present "Photoplay Dies". 7 Lurksalot I'll pop this in here, it seems a very 'avant-garde' and self indulgent arty inspired symphonic masterpiece ... or an edited take on a 7 year old's key board plonking! I don't think I will be choosing the next photo .... but someone will Time to dish out the 3 votes to your chosen tunes. Voting will cease and a new champion declared at midnight on 30th April Good luck All
  6. I'll pop this in here, it seems a very 'avant-garde' and self indulgent arty inspired symphonic masterpiece ... or an edited take on a 7 year old's key board plonking . but I like it I shall start up the voting thread if we are done
  7. Bloody hell , stay safe and best wishes for a full recovery 👍
  8. Well bizarrely grand little lurks fancied a bash on the keyboard before he went home after a few days with us… so I hit record as he blasted through various soundscapes on the FX. I should have had the insight to record the MIDI as well , then I could have added some extra sounds without making it a mission, still, I reckon I can edit his performance to create some infant symphonic type affair. I should get something in before my hols.
  9. I think I’ll struggle this month , I haven’t had a chance yet and we have grand little lurks for a few days over Easter , I’ve committed to going to Nantwich for the music festival , work is full on next week then it’s away on holiday for week , just in time to get back to post the voting thread!
  10. GET OUT OF BED you snooze you lose ! back on the bike for April This is not a dodgy April fool link
  11. HOT off the blocks today then. An inaugural win, with a most excellent and popular entry from @AndyTravis who was right on the ball with his choice off picture for us. "I’ve had this saved for years - wanted it to be an album cover…I just reminded me of how I was (pre fatherhood) - A class clown, I still chuckle when I see it - it was an early crash helmet test." This could be a barrel of fun ....sorry! Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ Bagpipes. please no bagpipes, the April fools Day truce truce has just expired . ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline wise , we will go for the 23rd which means you'll probably have till tea time on the 24th ....if I'm back from my holiday in time! A line or two of blurb as well for the vote thread will be lovely. Have fun
  12. Well done Andy , a popular winner for an excellent tune 👏.
  13. There is a multi band compressor in reaper for free , but , well , it’s a step more than I really know what to do with 😁
  14. I got it down to a long list , then a shortlist , but to be honest , the shortlist isn’t that short! if I can’t get it any shorter I will have to pull them out of a hat tomorrow 😂
  15. It is time again to get those lug holes infused with the monthly offering. After a great month last time congratulations were due to @NickD with the added bonus of choosing us a pic for March... "I was messing with chiaroscuro style lighting for a photography project last year and asked the Mrs do do her best gangster impression for me. I think it might make for some interesting results." So without further ado have a listen to these and cast your 3 votes as appeases you 1 @AndyTravis I just got spy/hitman vibes and went with it. 2 @Leonard Smalls I done one! Seeing the pic had someone with a gun in their hand, I thought it best to do a cover of Hendrix' classic "Hey Joe" 😁 3 lurksalot. I tried to get a feel of a theme/title sequence to a TV show that might have the photographed person as main character. 4 @NickD I got a bit of a Bugsy Malone vibe from the pic, which pushed me towards a swing (ish) style. It's a minor 251 going to the relative major for the brief chorus. There are probably hundreds of jazz tunes you could play over the backing, it's such a standard form. 5 @Dad3353 Inspired really after watching the Markus Miller group in concert, playing Miles Davis 'Tutu' stuff. It brought images of this spiv; maybe it's the hat, I don't know. 6. @SH73 The song is about a CO2 air pistol and shooting cans , whatever words I scraped together. 7 @Nail Soup The gun pic got me thinking of despair at needless deaths in American school shootings and the like. In particular one quote from gun supporter saying that the best solution to a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun - hence the (ironic) title. So the lyrics went there, and led me to a Dylan-goes-electric musical setting. 8 @Nicko. I went through several genres but ended up going back to my initial idea which was to do something befitting a Tarantino sound track because the photo reminded me of his films. Not sure if I got there - its somewhere between the Shadows and a Spaghetti Western but that's the right ballpark. 9 @upside downer "Hands up! Nobody move! Hey, you! I'm Mrs D! Do a tune that has no chance of winning 'cus my fella won last month and now he's had the sweet taste of victory he wants more!" 10 @Wolfram Drawing some inspiration from the Godfather and the late great Coolio, I had two ideas for this one and couldn't decide, so ran with them both. Most definitely a song of two halves: an introduction from the hills of Sicily followed by a little story straight from the Valley of the Shadow of Death Well there we have it ,yet another fine crop for you to listen through and choose your favourite 3 Good luck all Voting will finish at midnight on 31st March
  16. You may all find something odd happens in a minute , I tried to compose the voting thread on an iPad , and have put it in the wrong forum ! i will post it then move it so hopefully not too much hassle hold tight ………. I think it worked
  17. Extra points for shooting the bagpipes I reckon
  18. I don't think I can do much more to this so I'll let it loose. I tried to get a feel of a theme/title sequence to a TV show that might have the photographed person as main character. Not much technical really, all bashed out on a digital piano , put together in reaper, smeared with a bit of reverb and rolled in a bit of ozone8 .
  19. I’ve bashed mine into something passable now, but my PC is going slow , so I’ll put it up tomorrow. I was looking to put some words on it, it doesn’t need them this time ….. Shame I hear you cry 😁
  20. Well I developed a very little piano passage , I liked it , so I then set about learning to play it to a recordable level of passable competence, that took ages … and now …Meh has hit hard 😂 I’ll try something else with it tonight !
  21. “Maybe get a blister on your finger or a blister on your thumb, that ain’t working, that’s the way to do it” ….. but at first glance that picture worried me , I knew it was the tip of something , but I was hovering over the ‘hide’ button 😁
  22. If I read that right, it’s the rant alright , but without all the expletives, I dare say that gets my vote before I’ve even heard it 😁
  23. I had a few noodles earlier and it developed to the point that I confused myself and can’t remember how I started. I really should hit record so that I can pick out the good…(subjective comment mode acknowledged )… bits 😁
