  1. Well you can go for a city break to Wrexham now 😂😂😂
  2. I sent an email to the place he used to do a few gigs in felixstow , I’ve not heard anything
  3. voting thread up and running , well done dudes
  4. Well. by a fluke I scored top in November and won a certificate to put on my wall. with thanks to you kind folk, for honouring me with the choice of photo this month and this was my offering This is a themed part of Chester Zoo that highlights the plight of wildlife in the southern Asian Islands. Here are your choices , and a fine bunch we have , with newcomers to being welcomed to the fold. As is the norm , please choose your favourite 3 entries before midnight on 31st Jan. 1 @Leonard Smalls It's inspired by the time I worked at Chester Zoo (as a boat driver, what else?). One day loads of police turned up and completely locked the place down - they thought they'd smashed a major drugs ring. Turns out a lad who used to work there had been caught in London with a carrier bag full of weed, that he said had come from Chester Zoo. The police duly found a large amount of cannabis plants growing behind the bird house; however, they'd grown from hemp seeds thrown out while cleaning out the bird cages! For those who only want the very funky bit, rather than the ambient build-up, just skip to 3 minutes... 2 lurksalot my take is cheesy wordplay ...but not too many of them 3 @Nicko I'm not one for laying on a beach so here is the island nightlife (or Cheshire nightclub) soundtrack instead. 4 @Nail Soup "Daddy's Taking Us To The Zoo Tomorrow" - the antidote. 5 @Doctor J A quick glance on a small phone screen, with my deteriorating eyesight, of the seemingly deserted resort made me think of the Jonestown compound, Waco and then some kind of Andromeda Strain type of apocalyptic tragedy, as these things frequently end up. Yeah wrong way, I know! 6 @Dad3353 I've composed the jingle for the TV spot that this paradisiac resort has commissioned. All is in the title, really, it's a hypnotic exhortation to make you think of Paddling, Pedalling and Pédalos when next booking your holidays. Cunning, no..? 7 @Wolfram Hey guys, this is my first entry, so go easy on me! In fact, it's my first recorded bass guitar line since about 2006!... New Years' Resolution has got me going on some music again, which can only be a good thing. It's not really finished - I have had time to neither write nor record lyrics, but here it is so far - Midwinter Daiquiri: 8 @SH73 Song about a zoo and ice cream that makes no sense at all. the lyrics don`t. I tried reggae this time. 9 @upside downer Decided on a laid back, gentle reggae feel for this one, despite Indonesia not being in the Caribbean. The lyrics focus on the wish to get away to sunnier climes and the attractions of a South East Asian holiday. What's it like in Indonesia? You're asking the wrong bloke. I've never been further east than Antwerp 😄 Many thanks to Tom Waits for the pronunciation of 'Indonesia'. That's your lot folks But I reckon there'll be something for everyone in there , most excellent so that's 3 votes closing at midnight on the 31st
  5. Great to see a last minute flourish from you all , I’ll get listening later on 👍
  6. this is my take on the picture , the view is a mock up of far eastern islands and they are using it to highlight endangered species in the area such as Orangutans and the like.
  7. If it helps , and I don’t do this for just anyone, but I could offer to do some singing for you 😁 😘
  8. I’m not too far off now , I need to record some more vocals , but they are not excessive, but really do tie the theme together with incisive observation and an element of charm 😂
  9. Yep, we’ll done guys , I enjoyed that , time to get your thinking caps on for next December 😁
  10. for any of you sitting with itchy trigger fingers , I have set up the January challenge already.
  11. Well. by some fluke I have another certificate to put on my wall. Thanks to you kind folk therefore for honouring me with the choice of photo this month. As we normally experience a cold and wet Christmas , I thought I would show a scene that other parts of the world might experience at the same time of year! * *this isn't another part of the world really , its Chester Zoo Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and deadline. X No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on X Bagpipes. please no bagpipes, the ears cant take it, panpipes only if you have too. X No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline wise , we will go for the 24th which means you'll probably have till Burns' supper time , if he has it at the same time I get home from work! A line or two of blurb as well for the vote thread will be lovely. Have fun
  12. the voting thread is now open , top work all , great skills on display again
  13. Yes its the cover song challenge time of year and we have some great entries again this time all for fun but there is some incredible effort gone into these so give them a listen and choose your favourite 3 voting will end at midnight on New Years Day 1 @Nicko What better than 2 minutes and 47 seconds of late 70s modfather. 2 @Dad3353 A staple of our repertoire, I've cut out a little of the intro build-up, to keep to the time constraints 3 @FacStudio The inspiration behind this is my love of Biffy. 4 @Leonard Smalls Here's a little something my band recorded live (but in a studio!) back in October and mixed by me 5 @MoonBassAlpha As suggested by my friend Rob for an occasional get-together we have with another school friend Paul (we used to jam together and did a couple of gigs). The parts were subsequently recorded remotely, and mixed by me 6 @Nail Soup I was stuck for a song, until this popped into my head - originally just to perform at a local acoustic session. It's old favourite of John Peel. It got a lot of JP plays at the time, but not sure it made much traction outside of his show. But it's stayed with me over the years anyway! 7 Lurksalot mine is sooo boring , I had some ideas to make more interesting but ran out of both time and skill 8 @SH73 Here is my contribution. Drums are Ez Drums, the rest is played and recorded by me. 9 @upside downer Here's mine. It's a cover of Every Man's An Island by Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart from the acclaimed 1991 album Rising Above Bedlam. That's your lot then get your 3 votes in before the end of New Years Day
  14. I seem to recall it was a bit faster than that last time I heard you play it
  15. mine is sooo boring , I had some ideas but ran out of both time and skill Mainly played on a midi keyboard and built the main parts up as a backing type track , with guitars over it
  16. I am a good way in , but struggling to get the main riff right ….when it needs to be right 😁 while it will be my ‘take’ on it, I can’t really argue that the abysmal playing is deliberate. I am not good enough to emulate Les Dawson 😂
  17. checks bagpipe rules this month…. drat I may have to edit the rules or just ignore that little fun line , yeah, it’s just for fun you ain’t seen me , and if you think you did , it wasn’t me
  18. I’ve got more instruments than I need , but I’m lucky enough to have enough room to hang them on walls or put them on stands where they look good. I play most of them at some point but even Mrs lurks likes the look they create. I’ve got non in boxes under the bed or in cupboards, if it got that far it would go. instruments as wall art ? It has it’s place I guess 😁
  19. There is, once a month, some very new music that appears as a pinned topic on this forum. Various styles , some unrecognisable , but very often quality stuff . it appears to get pitiful attention from the majority on here ☹️
  20. Option 1 I reckon is the way to go in the spirit of this month. Im still trying to find inspiration 😂
