  1. I’ve been to a few , and had a couple lined up in Nottingham at one point …..and shit got in the way 😂
  2. My lad and Grand little lurks live very adjacent , would have dragged them down but I’m gutted that I will be away for a 50th wedding anniversary. I constantly follow this thread to catch some BCers gigs , but it’s not that often I can get to them 🤦‍♂️
  3. I don’t see this as a competition really . I would soon be disillusioned if I thought I was competing against the quality that gets presented here. It’s a challenge , which is to create a piece, yes I try to make it fun or interesting and as good as my time and commitments allow, but I’ve always had aspirations to make music and this little corner of the web is just heaven. help, advice, a bit of pisstaking and a great bunch to share it with.
  4. Try to forget the red light is on. If you are well enough rehearsed it should be a breeze , enjoy
  5. One thing I did pick up on is AI vocals for singing, I’m wondering if that is a thing I could use for my tracks. I do get tired belting out a tune sometimes , and while I’m sure AI won’t get near to my style and phrasing , never mind timbre and tonality, it might be a good starting point if I am short on time for singing a perfect vocal take. yeah OK 😁 I know.
  6. As a completely separate entity to an analog/ samples/Midi and digital instrumentation composition challenge that we currently engage in , it might stand up if there was enough interest in it I guess. I do think there should be a line drawn between a challenge that participants actually compose for, and one where a computer does it all from some written prompts.
  7. I realise your post was to promote debate Douglas, and commented accordingly 👍. It’s not a performance challenge , though the performance can influence and enhance a composition. i use digital piano occasionally, which I can use to set tracks of different styles, add and remove parts then pick chords etc , but it is all based on musical inputs and choices. Something that does everything that could be described as a composition, is obviously not someone enjoying the challenge I’d have thought.
  8. What musical input is required to get an A.I tune ? the challenge is for a bit of fun, but it is for composition , if the composition is being done by a computer, it does seem a bit incongruous to enter it as one’s own. I guess if there is a consensus I can make an addition to the simple rules.
  9. here we GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  10. Great tunes from @Wolfram and @Jean-Luc Pickguard ('Lean-Luc' to his friends ) secured a joint victory for September. By virtue of no more than a lightning response to acknowledge his share of the victory, Wolfram got the honour of choosing our October picture He offer the thought ... "The temptation of the serpent and the forbidden fruit. Or an exquisite dessert at Amazónico, Monte-Carlo. Take your pick for this month's inspiration!" Ok , that's a pretty lush starter for 10 if you like , which is a bit ironic, as its a dessert , well, rules is rules so .... ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes unless they are monogasqueian and played within the sound of the Royal Casino car park ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 25th (effectively afternoon on the 26th), I was considering an extra day, but its my brothers twin grand daughters christening on the Sunday, so I will not get the time. A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super smashing. Good luck, Have fun
  11. Lean-Luc …OMG , that’s a good one 😂. …. Apologies Moving on , I have the image, I will set up the challenge after I get home 👍
  12. Well done gents , great tunes, first one here with an acknowledgement gets the picture choice 👍
  13. Oooh indeed , tight at the top. a vote splitter is definitely required 👍
  14. That was odd, it was definitely there before, though the input fields were empty. As it's a new computer it only knows recent inputs, and as I typed them , it recognised that I had typed them before, so I must have already done it, I have no idea where it went , how bizarre!
  15. I’ll go and look for it 😂 I know I did it 🤷‍♂️
  16. Well done guys , voting is up ...
  17. This seems to come around quicker every month, but after the congratulations bestowed upon @Jean-Luc Pickguard for his inaugural outright win in August, he was given the honour of choosing our September picture. Thus the picture he has chosen for the month's inspiration is as follows and he muses... "On the way back to London after my regular visits to Torbay, I would always see this sign on the A380 a few miles from Exeter marking the completion of the first step of my journey. It often occurred to me that 'Telegraph Hill' sounded like it might make a good topic for a song." Here are your entries, please choose your favourite 2 and tick the boxes accordingly 1 @Dad3353 I was waiting in the car, listening to a classical music station, when I heard a piece that brought with it visions of this picture. It's heavily inspired by the Beethoven concerto (Opus 19...) I heard, but using a maximum of elements relating to either Up or Down. 2 @Leonard Smalls I done one too three! Not sure what it's got to do with the pic, but this is what came out! 3 @Jean-Luc Pickguard In my song, Telegraph Hill serves as a metaphor for the communication between two people, illustrating how their ability to communicate has diminished over time. 4 Lurksalot this came together quite quickly, its nothing like I was aiming at , but each bit I did, seemed to fit with the last bit and it just landed in my reaper like this. its a bit of fun 5 @Wolfram "This road's seen joy, this road has killed. Telegraph Hill haunts me still." 6 @upside downer An up tempo, punky pop piece about...well, driving, I suppose. The words are a load of cobblers but at least there aren't many of them and they mostly rhyme 😁 Another most excellent selection to choose from. I would suggest choosing 2 and see how it goes from there. Voting will close at midnight on 30th September
  18. this came together quite quickly, its nothing like I was aiming at , but each bit I did, seemed to fit with the last bit and it just landed in my reaper like this. its a bit of fun technically .. EZ does it quite fast , Gordon Smith does it around the bottom , Ibby plinky plonks and yours truly adds the sophistication.
  19. So it’s the blues then this month I guess 😁
  20. Everyone is always welcome to participate but i think sometimes it appears daunting to some. It is always done for a bit of fun , but there are some fine song and tunesmiths among us, its just doing a first one that's the hardest , but once you get stuck in it's great fun. I think lots on here are just waiting to hear my angelic vocal tones every month TBH DIVE IN , DIVE IN September is up and running
  21. Congratulations to @Jean-Luc Pickguard on his inaugural outright win after some superb stuff introducing himself to the challenge. The picture he has chosen for the month's inspiration is as follows and he thus muses... "On the way back to London after my regular visits to Torbay, I would always see this sign on the A380 a few miles from Exeter marking the completion of the first step of my journey. Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes as the truce has well and truly expired ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th (effectively tea time on the 25th) A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super smashing. Good luck, Have fun
  22. Congrats to @Jean-Luc Pickguard , a fine tune and worthy winner . you now have the honour of choosing the picture for the September challenge. If you PM it across I will get the challenge posted straight away 👍
