1. This is a tricky on for me this month , My favourite piece is hardly a mix, it seems almost a re-recording , some of the best of the others have left in bits that I would have thought were first for the chop, those that didn't do that then seemed to have lost the drums , or sped the song up a touch. dilemmas , dilemmas.
 2. In the last band I was in , we payed blues , performed by engineers , it kind of lacked spontanaity and dare I say musicality
 3. we will agree to differ on this , but I find the learning process a big part of the fun , investigating and pinning something down is what makes it stick , its what helps you to understand the topic and how everything comes together , you do it your way , but in answer to your question ...
...............you try looking up a tutorial for everything you want to do and tell me that it isn't tedious.
......I think you'll find I already answered that in the next bit of my post that you quoted just after you asked the question !!
Mate, you called me patronising the other day.
Irony
 4. Sorry , I was being a bit facetious really. after all you start a thread asking for opinions on a software upgrade , get loads of quality advice , give out plenty of encouraging feedback , and finish with a shoulder shrug to intimate that you can't be blessed with the learning process of what you already have !! My advice , is don't upgrade , don't even think of adding anything else until you can use what you have got . Skol already told you that, you then told him you understood and in the next few words you showed that you missed the point totally . Learn to use what you have got , read the books and tutorials, the you tube tutorials make learning so easy it is untrue., BUT if you don't want to learn it, don't. but you wont learn anything if you don't listen to those that are trying to help you, the first lesson in this discipline is learning to listen
 5.
I understand what you mean, and believe me, a lot of my days now are being spent in Logic, but I was just wondering about the new version. Regardless of whether it's good or not, I'm not likely to buy it any time soon anyway. What I would really like though is somebody to teach me how to do all the things I want to in Logic. Trying to figure it out myself or constantly looking for tutorials online is a tedious task.
6.
I don't know if you noticed, but there hasn't been much demand for it after Peter's gig, which is a shame.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention , but there was no need
I want to get it to another gig, and if that means having to ask about a little bit, I will do that.
maybe that is what it needs , and we all want to see it move on , but if it is to be a BC Relay there are plenty of members who will join in when the time is right . ed to Bluejay
 7.
Again, does anybody know who Steven Clutton is? He commented on our Facebook status.
This is James's gig Milt , I don't think the idea is that we trawl the country looking for people to get involved , more get the BC community to participate in a BC fundraiser. Having said that , the cudos of big name endorsements and big publicity is superb and money raising is the benefit it delivers , but lets try and keep it real for a while , there are lots on here who will start to take it seriously now they see what can be done , the spirit is less of one that has to be organised and more one that should develop . Now the thread is pinned (great call BTW) it might get to more eyes and hopefully more will realise that to get involved needs no more than a PM and a night out. So Roll up , no pressure to nail the numbers Ubassman just hit ( TOP respect for that one ) it just needs to be kept on the boil . But also respect to Jim , £1K is a decent number to hit so quick buddy , an inspired idea , well done ,I hope this goes on for a long time .
 8. I was thinking more along designing the stuff into the build rather than as a bolt on. betweeen ceiling /floor joists etc and angling corners off , with my room the treatment has to look part of the room , rolls of fibreglass in the room corners just won't wash with SWMBO . I have a bit more faced internal brickwork to do first and am hoping that some of the randomness of the finish may help disperse some of the reflections
 9. Can you build this stuff in? would plasterboarding/skimming over the stuff negate its effectiveness? I realise that Higher frequencies will bounce of hard surfaces but I was underthe impression that lower frequencies were more penetrative thus might get the treatment even if the stuff was hidden .
 10.
Changing keys....
I had a key change in last months entry, well ,I say key change , when I thought that a harmonica would be good in it , I found my dusty example in the cupboard and I had to start again and change the key of what I had already done
 11. I have saved a couple of old duvets that I can throw over a lighting bar that I use occassionally that seems to help as a measure that I can put away after I have finished , but SWMBO has design criteria that will look quite good but may not help the room , but I have a angular vaulted ceiling and that helps to reduce some of the box shape of the room . I may get a chance to do a bit of adapting , but it has to look the part
 12.
Well I've done a complete 180°, spent a lot of time making intricate glitchy beats and then I picked up a guitar and blasted out a riff that is pretty much perfect, so I might still marry the two together but I'm definitely aiming at more of a post-hardcore feel. I haven't listened to any of the very early entries yet either, I don't want to colour my own idea, plus I prefer to know how much better everyone else's is after I've finished mine.
I am pulling my hair out on this one , I have recorded loads of stuff and tried to make a sound go together, but getting a pop vibe , (which was my daughters instruction) is proving oddly difficult . still , I haev learned a few new tricks on Reaper , I have to find a way of getting them in now . I will listen in when I am done with mine, but I am impressed with the speed that youve done them especially when the comments are so positive
 13. the nest question though Milt , would be whether the work would benefit fron more attention, I haven't listened to any yet , I am busy pulling my hair out with my own effort , it is proving particularly hard considering the simpilicty of the idea by my daughter
 14. each bit of software might apply itself in a different manner , see Si's post , the 14 on the k-14 is no more than a scale for our purposes, it effectively averages the whole track and delivers a result , if everyone uses this then each result should be similar so that each entry sounds similar in volume . the idea is not to peak over 0db using the K meter when using the scale of 'K14'.
 15. I have found a drum pattern that I will develop , and wrote some lyrics , which I liked, but then realised that as my effort is to be in a pop stylee , I really don't need an in depth delve into the personality of a city, portraying and comparing it with the emotions and psyche of a woman serving her needs in a cold, capitalistic and somehow strangely anonymous frame of mind, I need a more Boom Boom shag you soon , kind of flow .
 16. POP , Britney will do for me , in her day yummmm Rihanna and the wanted so far , it does grow on you a bit when you listen in on the detail , but complex . It will be a miracle if we get any sort of resemblance to modern stuff , however if you turn the clock back to peter ,paul and mary mungo and midge , I might get a bit closer .
 17.
Does anyone know what city is in the picture? Stumped for an idea this month at the moment, but it ain't over till the fat lady sings, que the wife Only kidding, she cant sing
Yep its new york I have a similar picture from a few years ago when I did a panoramic but in the daylight. I had some silly ideas about merging in some of the landmarks into some lyrics, though for the life of me I was stuck with the 59th Street bridge , I may have another go but it doesn't feel quite as groovy as it should or ..............the wind Cries Lah anything about Trumping towers might work , or the east elevation of the United Nations .
 18. well , Lurksalittle's input this month, is that we need it pop styleeeee So pop it is, I have sooooo much too learn, having listened to some 'pop' it is all in the production , at least the lyrics won't take much doing , but sorting the feel of the current pop pumping genre and just as awkward ......... a singist This month will take some oil to be burning at midnight ................
 19. A good lyric can read your own state , it can feel your pain and it can share your joy. when you hear the song that speaks to you in these terms it becomes very special .
 20. If its a song then the lyrics are very important to me. There are times when I will here a line and thats it , I cannot bear the song . I really struggle with rap as I get the impression that there are tales to tell , but I don't understand a word of a lot of it and I then get turned off as soon as I hear a line or 2 that means nothing to me. I suppose a lot of metal is similar , I love guitar riffs and breaks , but equally the vocal has to cut through with the goods I also get irritated by lyrics that get involved in describing the song that they are singing. Daft punk 'What rhymes with hug me '............. your lyrics bug me I can listen to any genre of music if there is a story to be told well .
 21. Congrats SKol , Urb and collective superb effort once again , and top stuff from everyone else aswell , I got 5 votes which is as many as I have in the previous months added up , so I am well chuffed. thanks to those who took the time to vote and special thanks to those that sent them my way The new photo throws up loads of ideas , I am thinking maybe a Sinatra style slow swing number , based on a US east coast location with a name that could be repeated each time it was said ,...... It's up to you Plymouth, Plymouth ,.............. That could work Time for some head scratching methinks
 22.
I'm imagining a 'Great Escape'-type ruse where you smuggle in a dwarf in a dummy 8X10 who then nicks loads of booze from the cellar while you're doing the gig. You haul the dwarf and the booze out along with the cab. Brilliant, eh? Unless of course the dwarf drinks the booze during your set, in which case all you'll have to show for it is a pissed dwarf. And who can honestly say they've never had that happen of a weekend? I certainly can't.
Ed to ad !!! You would need part of the the 8x10 to produce a bit of noise , so may end up with a deaf pissed dwarf
 23. Thanks Skol for the feedback , much appreciated , I too barely watch tv any more and try to get a couple of hours music/ practice / production in most nights but I do go out a couple of nights a week , in fact I am at the pub now, well , at Alton towers hotel while mrs lurks and the girls are doing stuff in the sleepover room , so no lappy tonight
 24. Zoom b9 is an audio interface and works OK , but is a bit tricky with levels and playback and the like , defo have a go with using it as you can plug any analogue instrument into it and record it , though it is a bit light on mic level IIRC....no preamp stage the background noise is a bit high , and it will throw a few things at you ,I think latency was inconsistent and had me doubting my playing skills at one point , but , I recorded my first few goes using one . I did move on to a simple focusright scarlett 2+2 and have been really inspired with it , so simple , and has felt a lot easier , but there is NO reason not to try your hand with the Zoom , go for it , and remember it is a composition competition, it matters not what your entry consists of , just present it , poem, song , instrumental , instrumental poem , it all counts , and to be honest , the most important thing to me was the deadline. It removed the 'one day I will do this' thinking and got me into a 'I will do this now' approach . good luck and welcome 30 years ago I KNEW i could write stuff , now, I am just starting to learn how to do it and I love it .
 25.
How I loved it and how I regret giving away that little 8inch record. You had to turn it over in the middle just as it was getting exciting. .
Well I wouldn't call 8 inches a record ....
Hey, I've just had an idea for making a bit of money for the BC coffers. We could do a nudie BC calender! What d'you reckon girls (and guys?).
Unfortunately my 7 inches are a little flat nowadays , I have heard of a member who has a 12 incher but doesn't use it as a rule ...... Taxi ......
