1.
Cheating bastard. I'm taking my vote back.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO I neeeed a vote , I know I keep saying it doesn't matter , but I NEEEEED a vote . ( I didnt enter the 'mastered' track , I just did it to try it out )
2. Well done , Skol , great composition , well produced. Well done to all the other entrants also , a brilliant body of work .
3. Many thanks for the kind review Douglas . if everyone wants a last chance to vote for this months challenge , tonight is closing time.
4.
No votes! No play of the day!.........was it really that bad. Ha ha
No votes is a tricky one , some of my best pieces have fallen at the first hurdle of a vote , I have entered maybe 20 pieces , but I doubt I have 20 votes in total , It matters not , but one day .......... Play of the day is unfortunately down to Dad being laid up with a debilitating case of the lurgy , so while he has had a great idea , is really not up to it at the moment , I am sure he will be back on form shortly
5. Brilliant review Mark , If I had to write one of my own I would think copy and paste would be perfect
6. Fair play Skol a great insight , but what is this 1 or 2db adjustment I see written , 1 or 2db doesn't even register in terms of hearing with me, so getting it any where near listenable is a result ,within 1 or 2 db in the mix is just a dream I have , and then I have to cut it out at 200hz , so so confusing .................
7. I tried the LANDR on mine for trial purposes , but I did not use it on my entry. I had already pulled my first effort and had another go at the mixing of it and just uploaded the result , so it is out of reaper as I left it , I thought another bite of the cherry would be taking the mick somewhat, so I guess I got something half right about it
8. well , I having listened to all the others so ,its just incredible stuff , I think my picture folder is in no danger of being disturbed for next months photo !!
9. To be honest Mr Smalls , I think you are taking the monthly challenge Waaaaaaay too seriously
10. In just tried it with my composition entry for this month and wow , it really added a lot to it , thanks for that . I guess mastering is another tool to the armory
11. It is daft isn't it , I have probably read all about this in the last year , books , and seen articles, advice on threads and posts and even on sales blurb for bits of kit , somehow you think you know the stuff , then all of a sudden I pick up on a detail where plugging headphones in to the computer as opposed to the interface makes a difference to what I am hearing and leads to a question I should know the answer to already Even further , I remember commenting that my mixes on soundcloud seemed duller than my reaper mixes , yet that could be simply down to where I plugged my phones in , and again , I might mix through the interface if I have done some recording and then at another time just plug in the computer to work on it later , and every time, my mix is being messed with before It even gets to my ears. I guess sometimes you have to experience things to understand what it means , and the sad thing though is that I only picked up on this by accident . with the phones plugged into interface , I played rendered mix and it was on the computer speakers , so I changed the phones over , I then though that I must be able to send the sounds to the interface to stop having to mess around changing the phones over , yes I found out how to do it , and because It was effectively a switched comparison the difference became obvious. So after messing with this mixing malarkey for nearly 2 years ,I have just reached the first step , and it is raising far more questions than answers
12. I enjoyed that, only on lappy speakers but the song is great and from what I heard it won't need too much production work .
13.
Been out of the loop for a few months now. I'm really gonna try this time to get something in. I never have any spare minutes these days. I have a few hours tomorrow. Hopefully I will get something done.
sing boy sing ed to add if you want to re-vocal mine and send me the wav , I will give you the credit and let you have some input for the photo for next month
14. My fave Motown track , while a bit young to know its release , my elder sister had Motown albums and I recall this on a compilation album that I played to death after an experience of unrequited love in the 3rd year at school As I am so familiar with the song and the name I was quite surprised that he wasn't far more proliferous. RIP
15. I have sat top level at Shea , scared the sh1t out of me and how the hell you would hear a band with less amplification than most pub bands have nowadays is beyond me . I understood that the scale of those first beatles gigs took everyone by surprise sound wise , the screaming of the crowd pretty much drowned out the best the band could throw at them .
16. AAAh my heart bleeds , it wasn't a prayer either ,
17. Marvelous , so when your vote count comes out on top you have a marvelous and inspirational picture for the (correct ..) seasonal challenge
18. you flatter me young sir , the lyric is a mere regurgitation of our celebrated family rhyming dictionary , handed down thru generations , many ,many thanks , now I must be off to Jigsawchat , it is a tad quieter over their , but one can have some fun on the missing piece thread especially with some thick card and some felt pens .
19. Ok , so this is my second bite at the cherry with this , same song re-mixed a bit , new vocal (still me though ) , re- recorded the bass part and mic'd a cab in as well this time, added a freesound file in and now it will do my head in if I spend any more time on it so It is up now It is a touch bottom heavy but is reasonably tight for me anyway as it is supposed to be a dance song I think it should be hope you enjoy https://soundcloud.c...ce-hall-shoop-1
20. I don't get to listen too much music properly nowadays ;( it tends to be in the van and it also tends to be radio so quality listening is a bit awkward , also just to rub it in , my phone has loads of music on it but I hate using earphones when I am out and about , and getting music on it is a right phaff aswell , as it is synced to an old lappy , but you have given me an idea to try , I can switch the monitors from the interface to the computer headphone out , so I will give that a try to see the difference.
21. This one has just struck me now that I am rolling my Composition in glitter , as it doesn't polish so well, and I have noticed a big difference in the mix when using (the same) headphones through the interface playback and the onboard soundcard. the onboard sound is bottom heavy , lacking clarity down there and light in the mids , yet the interface sound is pretty sweet , even if I do say so without great authority ! I cant find a way of checking any adjustable tonal adjustments on the computer , so is it fair to assume that the interface version will not be colouring the sound , but the onboard soundcard is ? Any pointers on the issue will be exremely welcome .
22.
Loved the challenge. Learnt some new stuff. Played around with MIDI. And a couple of bods liked my mix. Can't complain life is good
That works for me , apart from the MIDI bit
23. Sorry to be a pain to those that have commented but I am doing a bit more work on my entry this month , I have been having a really good play with Reaper and have learnt a few more tricks both with recording and production , so I will see if I can polish this t**d just a little , or at least roll it in some glitter
24. well, what I do is cut the cable and put a UK 3 pin plug on them , spare kettle leads , sorted
25. Welcome to the Spector fold Mark , I love them , I have a legend 4 that I bought many moons ago and kept GASsing for Euro , I ordered one a couple of years ago and got the Euro 4LX 35 TW ,Czeck built , an absolutely beautiful bass to play ,and a stunning level of finish. I am sure you will eventually get to one and you will have the widest smile when you do .
