1. Not so much last nights gig as much as feedback from last weeks , a friend of rhythm gtr, who is a bass player in another band , stayed to watch and said it was one of the best overall band sounds he has heard in a pub for ages . while I am right chuffed as I set the sound up , I rested my (expensive) Spector and played my bitsa that I knocked up for relative pennies , so naturally I have a little bit of confusion in all this
 2.
What? dotted quavers? All dat Jazz? Basschat is not the place for that (allegedly).
There are a few that partake in that jazz thing on Basschat , but over at Vuvuzelachat it's all the rage
 3.
Seems to be OK for now. Take it in turns, maybe..? Don't all rush in at once. Those with pseudos beginning with 'A', 00h00 till 01h00, those starting with 'B': 01h00-02h00, 'C' can go in 02h00-03h00 and so on. No pushing at the back; take it easy, there's enough for us all, IF we don't panic. Be careful; it's tough out there. Dismiss...

It's the best fun. Composing is the most satisfying aspect of music for me at the moment, not because I am particularly good at it but because I can see things getting more sophisticated every time I try a new idea. It also helps me learn more about the IT side, the recording side, the composing software etc etc and, at the end of it, I have something of value in each piece. Brilliant fun.
I see it much the same and use the mixing challenge as a learning tool in a similar way
 4.
All depends on your definition of "cheap"...
Are we talking of a basses or shots
 5. Well done James , it is you who deserves the praise , everyone else just played the thing It is a shame that it has come to a bit of a stop , but is sometimes the way of things , I guess it is up to the BC massive to decide if they want to pick up the baton, literately. A last ROLL UP , ROLL UP , and take the chance to raise some money for cancer research and be a part of a great event . Maybe auction it off now then with T-shirt and book , or keep the bits for your bottom drawer
 6. Dialling tones where were they , tis a tad deeeper than that , Douglas got it and nailed it pretty much yours may not be the "going out" song, more the "pi55ed walk home from the club on your own after getting blown out by every good looking girl in the club" song
 7. Many Thanks , alas , I already have that one , what are the chances ed after an epiphany Hmmm, thinks , a few quavers dotted in here or there, a touch of delay , EQ, hard L&R panning and maybe it would be unrecognisable
 8.
There's one in there already isn't there..? There isn't..? Are you sure..? Oh dear, my new headset is perhaps not the correction my [s]hearing[/s] deafness needs. What about all those animals to the left, then..? Don't tell me I imagined them, too..?
I just found the Harp , ok so it just leaves a vuvuzela solo
 9. I dont think I should be allowed to do this challenge , I swear I could hear the words Vuvuzela in amongst the Welsh they were singing , so I thought a Vuvuzela / harp duet break would work
 10. Have the soundcloud comments stopped working , I tried to say some further drivel in the comments but for some reason , I couldn't . By that, I didn't mean I was struck with a fright or some mystical inability to type , just when I hit the enter button all the typing I had done just disappeared
 11.
Finished! Slightly ahead of the deadline this time round… but still fairly last-minute as I’m away with work over the next couple of days, so it was now or never.
that is sweet Paul , a touch dark maybe, but a good listen and some lovely playing .
 12.
Here we go!!
I think that would sound superb if you did play it with the trio Bilbo
Can I just apologise for my entry this month?
Great fun , straight out of the BBC stereophonic workshops
 13. Last Saturday I played my first gig with the bitsa I built , it was great , no problems and to be honest because it looked so odd it got more attention than my Spector
here is my main gigging bass - it comes out with the intention of being the back up to my status, but more often than not it's the status which stays in the bag pre-loved squier affinity 140 from t'local music emporium - sounded fine just stock but now it has wizard hammers the status doesnt stand a chance tbh
I don't often get taken aback , but this is just a beautiful looking bass , just stunning .
 14.
Sounds like you've been busy Kev! :-)
One tries Mal , but that is just joinery , the bit I can't quite understand yet how you get to know where your fingers are supposed to go , especially when they are up over your left ear and you cant see them , even with a rubber neck wearing bifocals !!
 15.
I recently upgraded from an Antoni to a second hand Strunal that I found on eBay. After taking the Strunal to a luthier for a new bridge, soundpost, nut and set up, I'd spent a similar amount to your budget. In my case I'd say that the upgrade was most definitely worthwhile. The Antoni is a great starter bass and definitely served its purpose and got me hooked on Double Bass but I'm not convinced that it would have been worth spending money on trying to improve it. I'm sure if you're patient something will come up that meets your needs and fits your budget!
I have just got my first DB , an Antoni as it happens ............ From Mal While I haven't spent any money on it , I have put a few hours in lowering the action a fair bit , I have small hands you see . I am now in a position to learn how to play it , and it feels great , I might come to the Derby bash just to feel how other guys have them set up , I have only ever held one , and then took my tools to it . I think in my case it was just bite the bullet and find an opportunity to get one, I had been looking for a while and was suitably confused as to what I wanted or needed, I now have something to learn a bit of the craft on and am really looking forward to it .
 16. I have a hat Oh , and a DB , I could not believe how big they are , an essential is a decent size space to put the thing in but I am well and truly subscribed in here
 17. Just a quick thought , I have a tanglewood that I got in bits as a project and when it all got put together I had an issue thinking the truss rod head was stripped , but after taking it apart again found the the socket was a lot deeper than it first appeared , thus adjustment was perfectly doable .
 18. I just did a swap with Mal for a DB of his with a Warwick streamer fret less of mine , great easy deal and easy comms. Many thanks Mal ....... I hadn't realised how big these things are , only just fits in the the car with the 5 people :0

With a fistful of folding and some suitable sideways glances the deal was done and I was left to negotiate a further deal with Malbsss Mark is a great guy to deal with , dead straight and easy to communicate with , I hope this cab cures his GAS ,,,,, for a while at least A quality BCer
 20.
Try this for size... Wind In The Wire (54 + 1...)...
It fits very well , I can hear the inspiration building through it really well
 21. Many thanks Dad , you are too kind No vocals alas , but Lurksalittle did help with the lyrics So another family effort
 22. Well there's no folk in here , but you are welcome to tell me what you think it is https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/tweet I hope you enjoy
 23. I have got close with mine now , but I have to say , mine is a totally contrived and calculated piece , with a certain randomness , but no improv at all , folk , Hmmmm, no , no Hmmm , no, club style it is then
 24.
I know what I want to do but will need to find some other musicians to make it happen as I cannot play any of the instruments involved to the required level. Mmmmm?
That sounds very like my monthly dilemna
 25.
Leftfield is good!
, Yup , far too much reverb in there
