1. Paul i erm...cant find the site? Am i being stupid?
2. Well there are 5 screws in all..4 holdin down the bass of the key to the wood, and one holding the cog to the body of the key..These are all tight... Its the tuning peg that wobbles inside the shaft....this should surely be fairly tight and smooth with no play!
3. Hey People.. I have recently aquired a CIJ 62 Jazz..Its a great bass but the tuning key are very wobbly, and go out of tune very easily.. Is there any way i can stiffen them up, i can literally spin them around...I know there are small plastic washers in some tuning keys..Could these have worn?? If i cant fix these i would like to replace them..but at £80 squids a pop, they aint cheap.. Where is the best place to get the 62 keys as i know they are a slightly different shape to the later tuning keys..(more rounded) Also did the 62 Jazz require you to take the neck off to adjust the action..It a real pain to have to do this!!! Thanks
4.
Damn those commercialised people stopping us from... making money. I'm not sure I followed your post, really.
I think she means the sound i commercialised??
5. It depends on what music scene you follow..If its popular music like all the 'haircut bands' as i heard someone say on here, its allways bored me...they all sound the same....Its why i HATE Radio 1, and love Radio 2, Smooth FM, ETC There are people/bands out there bringing out superb albums that are not in the press..you just have to find them.. etc
6.
Whoops, I assumed that was a pic from the guy I bought it from - apologies, will delete. I had always thought this was a Metro Vintage 5 - hence MV5 - but will edit title.
No probs.. The first letter is the fret board wood..RV5....Rosewood.. MV5....Maple..You prob guessed this by now
7.
Much as I hate to split up my pair of Sadowskys, one has to go and I can't help but be more of a four string guy. I bought this about 18 months ago from a bass tutor in Surrey. He'd just brought it back from New York where he'd bought it new from Sadowsky. Tonally and playability wise it's the best 5 I've touched. The spacing is spot on (for me at least) and the tone is very punchy and even across the board. Body wood is alder with a Brazilian rosewood board. Condition wise it has a small dint in the back of the headstock, but is otherwise mint, not even any buckle rash. Ungigged - just used for noodling around. Comes with its original Sadowsky semi-hard case. I don't drive, but can meet up in central London. Price is a pretty firm £1200. Not really interested in trades as need cash for engagement ring...
UHHH.. Im a little confused why you have a Pic of my Sadowsky in your advert. Thats my couch.?? I dont mind you using the pic, but it may be a bit misleading as its not the bass your selling! Second Pic from left...
8. I played my basses against each other this evening over the same loop... and ive come to the conclusion that the bass that stands above everything else is the Sadowsky.. The fender 75 is a class act, and the StingRay5 is awsome, the Lakland is great, the Ostinato is just pure funk,, but nothing touches this bass for amazing across the FB tone.. Its like a tone of butter and chocolate thats got the most incredible punch..i defy any bass to sound as good as my RV5..( a matter of opinion of course) I really do think Roger has the art of Electric Bass making down.....The Preamp is a masterpiece IMHO....coupled with the amazing quality..I think, if you can, everyone should try out a Sadowsky..if you like the tone , you will never look back... I just wanted to share my love. Surely Alleva's cant be that much better? Where's Chris?
9. donny hathaway meshell n'degeocello Stevie Wonder Chaka Khan Maze Jazz Bass Anita Baker Earth Wind and Fire Marcus Miller In no order I want to try a really good P bass. how good are they????
10.
That position of the bridge is playing tricks with my vision. I relation to the bridge pickup which seems low on the G string side, compared to the E string side, looks wonky to me, hope it's the pics. Steve.
got me that...might be the saddles and shadow off the pups that throw u off? awsome looking J..love the colour..what are the pups on it? is it passive/active
11.
Just out of interest...does anybody know what other jazz-style basses are made with a natural finish, with maple neck, black scratchplates and black blocks ? (Tell me if this is OT, OP ?)
Maybe Sandberg.....Alot of the custom makers will do this...Shuker for one...
12.
Just thinking about my perfect jazz bass and I have always loved the look of the Fender Jazz American 75 re-issue in natural with block inlays and its kind of the bass I would work up to owning oneday if the need for a good jazz was required. However, I am hearing great things about the Lakland Darryl Jones Jazz bass and wondering how they compare. Having played OBBM's one, it felt and sounded great. Plus, being a Lakland Duck Dunn owner, I am very impressed with the quality and customer service from them. Can anyone shed any light on these two basses, especially the Fender. I currently own a Fender Classic Jazz Mexican 70's re-issue which is a superb bass and this would go if I got one of the other basses. However, how much better is the Fender Amercian 75 RI Jazz and how does it all compare to the Darryl Jones. Just interested in opinions and thoughts really.
Hey Linus.. Well i have the USA 75 RI, and to really honest for the money you can pay less and get a MIJ/CIJ 75 RI,, IMHO they are just as good...I love my 75 but i wasnt blown away by the quality of it.(it is very solid though) .Although the tone is very very good..I just dont think the USA is worth anywhere near twice as much as its MIJ?CIJ counterpart!!!!!! I have a CIJ 62 RI and its just as good, if not better than the USA 75 quality wise.. I havent played the DJ, (made in Japan i think, not sure) but have heard the quality is more consistent with Lakland basses... I personally think mass produced basses made in Japan are SO well made....There attitude towards consistent quality is great...This is why Roger Sadowsky goes to them for his Metro series! Hope this helps..
13.
Darn, for a minute I thought there was a new Fagen album out. "Morph" is from 2006. Quality album though, great arrangements and grooves. BTW - the bass player is Freddie Washington (not Jackson).
Ahh, right you are, that will be the erm...beer last night
14. Anyone heard the new/ish album 'Morph The Cat'... i have always loved this guy..his voice is not what i love in a voice but i love it all the same, i would recognise his voice anywhere..for me his attention to detail is sublime. he is a true master of his craft!! the way he plays that fender organ is so cool. Kamakiriad and Night Fly are superb, and this album is not far off..my favorites being 'Security Joan', 'Morph the Cat', The amazing 'H Gang'. and my favorite Brite Nitegown..this is amazing stuff IMHO.. Everything about this album, as usual, has Fagans trademark master arranging qualities.. Freddie Jackson on bass, is supremely laid back. i would like to see Pino all over this..Awesome guitar work too.. If you like Fagan, buy this. I would kill to play on this stuff!!!
15. Sorry, a 62 RI Jazz has its number..If i can get the it to him.. nice Status though!
16.
What's the problem with it? Is it the Pensa jazz?
No Ped, i had a few problems getting the Pensa, so i decided to spend less elsewhere. Anyway its my Ostinato custom..I cant get any decent volume out of the higher register..At high volume E A and the lower D are ok, but i go to pop the G and i cant hear a sausage?
17. Bugger, why wasnt this here 2 days ago!!!!! Let me think!!
18. Hey can anyone recommend me a luthier near/ish to me, i can take my custom Jazz to,,im having problems with it, and was hoping they might diagnose the problem for me, and maybe sort it out.. Im in cheltenham Thanks..A
19.
Having had 4 proper Jazz basses now (the current one is a luthier built custom shop) I have always had the same problem but usually only between the 3rd and 7th frets on the G string. This is now recognised as a failing of the Jazz bass. My current one has Sadowsky Pick-ups and it's still the same. I use a Markbass 103H 3x10 combo and no amount of EQing will sort the problem without a major compromise of the rest of the tone. I think it's something you have to live with as it appears to be the bass construction and not your pre-amp or amp. I know of friends who have changed necks with no difference although, I had read a review on the Mark King Jazz (which didn't last too long) that on that model, the problem did not exist. The only time I've owned a jazz type bass that did not have the problem was when I had a Fender Roscoe Beck V as they have a pair of Graphite rods running through so, maybe, try out a RB 4 string. Best of luck.
To be honest i have had several jazz basses and none have had this problem? This happens all the way up the string. I cant help but think its an amplification problem (i may be wrong)..I am thinking about taking it to maybe John Shuker and see what he thinks... I really cant live with it, and to be honest i really dont think i should, with a bass of this quality.. Oh these basses, you cant live with them, you cant live without them!! Thanks for the thoughts Leschirons..
20. Played it tonight with the pups angled high sid nearer the G string, ive tried turning up the treble and mid, but it doesnt seem to make any difference..It just seems to lack volume on the g strig and higher on the d string????? Even when poping the g string it just doesnt seem to want increase in volume..Could it be the pre amp..Its an Aguilar ABP2. the pups are EMG,s..Its very frustrating, as the bass has the most amazing raspy tone with real punch in the lower register..Maybe the pre amp or pups/ or both need changing??? Maybe i should ring a luthier to see what they think???
21. I have been thinking about moving this bass on but im not sure as it rocks..I bought it from the Gallery a while ago..I want to see if here is any interest? I paid £700 Its Ostinato custom Jazz (in mint conditon). Alder body,Tulipwood top, Rosewood board, a lovely bird's eye maple neck, also the headstock is birds eye. Shaller tuners, Aguilar OBP2 preamp, EMG pups, 18v..Shielded electronics.. It has an awsome tone, vey punchy with growl, its a little on the heavy side but not overly.. Trade wise Lakland/Stingray 5, or show me what you got http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=ostinato
