I'm putting my Yamaha TRB II 6er back up for sale. Come's complete with hard case. Its in exceptional condition, and sounds teriffic. I have 3 6ers including this one, so one's gotta go. Looking for a straight sale at £475, I will deliver if within a reasonable travelling distance from Derbyshire, or meet halfway. No trades sorry. Please PM with a sensible offer.
Ive said this before. But i just cant believe TRBII 6's go for this sort of money...I used to have one in blue...Just fabulous instruments, especially in this condition.. Have a bump..
From experience I know that Fender-style bases simply don't suit me and place far too many restrictions on my playing style for me to ever consider having one. By the time I would have put right all the problems I see with a P- or J-style bass, it would have so little in common with the instrument it started out, that I might as well have something that's been design properly from the ground up to be different. Also (not a criticism aimed at anyone - simply an observation) I find it fairly depressing that for many people claiming to produce original music their originality hasn't extended to their choice of instrument.
Surely it doesnt matter what instrument a person chooses to play on..As long as the music is good...The instrument is just a tool.... What does having an 'Original' bass guitar' have to do with writing "original' music...I dont see any link in that at all....I dont mean this to sound like a criticism but there is such a thing as thinking about your instrument too much Its a means to an end...Ok i have a few basses but there all to cover my needs as a bass player in different projects..some i play more than others.. The most original musicians could play Squire Jazz (great instrument) and be original...A non original musician could play a Carl Thompson and still be erm...non original..Its the way your mind thinks, not who makes your instrument...

Bass players who advance the instrument into new territory
bubinga5 replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
Holding down the low end while trying to play bits of McCartney, Jamerson and Dunn, no requirement to solo or be flashy, living in tonal heaven ... why would I want to go somewhere else? New territory is there for the explorers, and no doubt I'll be able to get a cheap package tour there in a few years, but right now I'm perfectly comfortable playing a deep groove on a P-bass with flats.
This is how i feel HJ..There are times when a bass solo are called for, and some times when it is not..My point is, we play an instrument that we all love and the bottom line is, we play it for the music, and we should be humble in that fact..This is why i love Sting, Ndegeocello, Mc Cartney, ,..they use the bass as a tool for a bigger picture... Its great to have a passion for an instrument, and thats why, people on this forum are very good at playing the electric bass, but we are all a slaves to the music...Its great that people like VW take the instrument to its limits, but its not really what matters..I get much more joy when bass is played well in the context of a great song, and played well with taste and a vision that puts the jigsaw puzzle together... I have allways wondered if our want for the best tone possible matters? But i came to the conclusion that my quest for the best bass tone is what ..I.. want to hear, and makes me want to play more, more than what the crowd cares about...I play the piano, and that takes the front seat when it comes to writing music..it just so happens that i love bass, so you can be sure i would make sure the bass sounded great...I hope -

I dont think hes over playing in the last two vids.?.Just awsome groove! VW seems to have a bad rep when it comes to flashy playing, but i guess thats what seels the tickets to his shows...I very much doubt Victor would over play, in the context of a song..At the end of the day he is a solo artist who plays bass!!

For me this is the best Miller vid by far..Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Poogie on drums...Amazing.. The solo at the start is such a lovely build up, then comes the Miller slapping..gets me every time...Sublime Everette Harp on Sax is one of my favorite, such great feeling in his vibrato.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHf7DvVpeiU Check the solo at 2.30

Right im a bass player who likes a bass player who is a slave to the music, ala Marcus Miller, Meshell....But VW just blows me away with his rythmic sense and timing..Is there anyone who can touch this guy with his monster technique...Its just incredible.. Here he is with Bela Fleck... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZxT85-CSFU If he left all the flash behind, you know he would play a serious groove though... This is killer..just amazing!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-hyEYi0O-M...feature=related or this..his playing at 3.28 onwards is supreme... Im looking to brush up on my theory and advanced techniques on the bass..Was wondering what the best online lessons are.. I dont mind paying for them, so want something very comprehensive. (from beginner to advanced).I dont want the BS sites that tell me i can play like a pro in 10 minutes...I just want a program i can delve into when i want to, and pick up some new stuff.. I would like to use it as a recourse to access when i want.. Any ideas?

The master at work, easily the best 'Musical' slapper playing today.. The man on drums is Poogie Bell. awsome too..You should check some of Poogie's albums out..
