fair point, i havnt heard of any of those! thats why this is great, you get to learn about so many players that you wouldnt normally come across
Yeah for sure, definately..im going to check out Tom Commerford, ive heard some good things about him
2.
I really rate Tim Commerford and Flea, but they always seem to come up possibly Stuart Zender
It depends on what you mean by the best..Best commercially, best well known, Best technically...If its technically i would say Julian Crampton, ( he could wipe the floor with most well known bassists) but im sure there are many out there who could match him... I would say the most exciting and has made a the biggest splash is Tal Wikenfeld!! Also some of the Gospel players are supreme in there bass playing.. People like Flea are good, and i like his playing but only famous because hes in a famous band, and knowhere near as good as some of the lesser known bass players out there... (I will get shot for this), but i think Flea is highly overrated......IMHO Tis a tricky Q..
3. I think you probably could..i just takes practice..Knowing the bass ine and the piece your singing.. Singing and improvising on the bass....now thats a different matter!
4. Try 'The American Guitar Centre'.. aka.. 'Bass World'.. they are on line! V cheap too!!
5. This is now for trade and sale!!! Yamaha TRB6II, Active 3 band EQ, Swamp Ash body, Maple neck, Rosewood board (i think) Yamaha Humbuckers..This is an awsome bass, and is easily as well made as my Sadowsky,... but would like to see what else i may be offered in trade..Its in V Good condition, with two small dings on the top of the body, otherwise the finish is glossy and flawless. Profesionally set up, with a super low action..A super powerfull basss ..Still interested in trades...4 or 5 string...Want a Jazz really but show me what you got... Wanted 650.00 NOW £500.00 THIS HAS BEEN TRADED!!!!! THANKS FOR THE INTEREST>>>
6. Just wanted to share this guy..i have posted this before (yes im bored).....A polish master of bass.love the tone, love the bass, ..I love this groove.. Check the finger style at 2.40..great playing from a player that not many know...Very powerfull bassist in every sense. Go Wojtek!!!! 7. I love fender because of the history of music that was created on the instruments Leo created..For sure there are better jazz basses P's out there, and there QC is not up to what it should be (Leo would surely have the mind and attitude of say Roger Sadowsky if he were alive today) but they are great instruments.. I know if i record or play my Jazz live, im going to get a great sound and a bullet proof bass..Thats the simplicity of say a Jazz bass..This is the nature of a big company like Fender, as oppose to a small company like Sadowsky or Celinder..The quality will lack because there is no personal touch to the instruments..As i said im sure if Leo were still alive he wouldnt let and guitar go out of the shop without it being spot on..I guess this is what the custom shop is for.... Unfortunatelly mass produced basses will allwys have QC issues because of the hugeness of the company.. A Jazz/Precision has a sound that is loved all over the world and the fact that Leo got the bass so spot inso many ways, the first time round is astounding!
8. One more for J Williams..LOOK AT THIS TECHNIQUE..wow.. just... wow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StxpWgfhjIg
9. John Williams - a master, I'm never going to fully appreciate all the nuances of his technique. whats wrong with my cut and paste??? an obvious one but since i was very young, this song has always moved me..Very very special..its beautifully written piece of music..the emotion of the music flows so so well....i have been in tears listening to this.. John Williams's Cavatina (Deer Hunter) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_8d0DJpbBI
10. Was just wondering what your favorite guitar players are... My favorite for many years now is George Benson.. He came on one time when i saw Incognito at the Forum in London as a suprise...blew me away...As a soul/jazz/funk fan this is my bread and butter!! Great bass playing too, The Old Grey Whistle Test....and look at the Jazz bass WOW!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QjTK0pL1go Also and Lee Ritenour....with erm.... Marcus someone....smokin!!!! this is more bass than geeetar but good all the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUzu-5UcN-s And Ritenour with Larry Carlton....The bass player Land Richard, seems to totally kill the music with a display thats not really needed at 5.09...V good mind... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfchN7G-oQk Eric Clapton with BB King, great blues minds.. and the awsome Phil Collins... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6gDeGdQ3rM Any favorites?? Was going to add Gilmore but no good vids!!
11.

Ha Ha, thats great!!.. Have another!!
12. Surely your there to play bass, not to worry about how you look!!?? Just wear it the way you need to able to play the bass most comfortably You wouldnt drive a car from the back seat because it looked cool. I think IMHO, it looks stupid with bass around your knees and its bad for, back, etc You dont see many pro's with the bass round by there knees..
13.
Click here James Genus on 'Sponge' with the Brecker Brothers. Unique slap solo later on (4.00m) but I particularly like the manicness of the whole piece with an underlying groove the whole way through. I'll see if I can find a few more, as this isn't that high up my list of favourite grooves. I particularly like Herbie Hancock piece 'Actual Proof'. I have a different version by Steve Jenkins but it's just so much more sedate than the HH one. Mark
good stuff.. is that Mike Stearn on guitar??
14. I saw this thread on groove, on talk bass and loved watching the vids..any favorites of yours.....??? these for me are drums and bass at there best!! amazing stuff!!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Je_iqbgGXFw http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N0rc52uu1AQ Joshue Redman.... This is pure groove from Mcbride.....this is bass playing at its best IMHO.. no frills just groove..some might say,(like me) the way it should be in an outfit like this.. You got to watch Christian Mcbride from 5.20 onwards!! this is very entertaining bass playing!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY033jfPoNk&...feature=related it doesnt get any more in the pocket than this, she even slides out of the pocket to give it a lazy funk feel if you listen carefully..Awsome!!!!!!!! This Celinder shes playing was for sale here not long ago i think. I love noodling, but there is nothing like the groove..
15. I heard Randy 'Hope' Taylor playing one on a certain album and loved the tone..A real working bass me feels.
16. Just wanted to ask a few Q's on a MM...Im really gassing for a StingRay 5ver.. I have wanted to try one out, but around my way its a little tricky.. I might be wanting to trading one of my basses for one at some point. Is the single H totally different from the HH? Are they heavy, Does the maple board differ alot to the RW.. I see they have them in Reverb for £999, and a few on here.. Thank for input in advance..
17.
no it's buggered, never gonna be able to fix that,it's just gonna take up space, tell you what I'm in Cheltenham even though I don't play fivers I'll do a fellow basschatter a favour and take it off your hands I'll even sling you a pint for it how's that? Btw was the trb the one from Aroundabout?
Ha ha.. Yeah tis that TRB from Aroundabout..Played it and bought it on the spot..Awsome bass!! Thanks guys....
18.
Where did you get it from? A UK dealer or direct from Sadowsky. Probably just needs a decent setup after the journey across the pond? If it has genuine problems eMail Roger and he will sort you out - Sadowsky are famous for their customer service. Steve
Yeah direct from Roger and his team..I guess it just needs a good setup... I have a TRB6II and the action is pretty low (perfect for me) but i never get fret buzz, no matter how hard i play, just some great growl..Think i will take both and get them to set the Sad the same as the TRB (or close)
19. Hi there..i bought an RV5 a while ago, and although i love the tone of the bass, its never really felt together.. When it arrived the action was WAY to low so there was terrible fret buzz all over the neck, so i have raised the action, but cant seem to get it low without fret buzz...Also when it arrived the active/passive pull push knob was loose and wobbles, as well as the stacked treble/bass knob. Also Im not sure if its normal but the tone gets very muddy the higher i play on the B string??? i know these are only small problems, but on a £1700.00 bass, they maybe shouldnt happen.. Now i know this is prob pretty rare on a new Sadowsky, but has anyone else experienced any problems with one..Im now going to take it for a good setup and get it sorted.. I should say apart from these minor(but annoying problems) the bass is flawless and beautifully made!!!! Anyone know a good repair/setup shop in the Cheltenham area??
20. Your fingers/hands will find a way!!!..i find muting the B no problem, because my thumb is on the low B until i play the B..some runs are to much of a slide on a 4. I play a TRB6II and the 5 seems small now..playing a sixer is great for getting your technique together...so much sympathetic ringing to keep in check...
21.
Favourite music gear from NAMM show 2009? BlameShifter : shifts pitch of mistakes down one octave so that the audience thinks it was the bass player.
Ha ha..thats great!!
22. I was in love with this Skjold LIons Pride 5 string from Bass Direct thats now on sale in the gallery for a long time...As it is, im still in love..i just havent played it.. i have heard this bass is something special..Has anyone played this/these jazz basses. Im still in love with my Sadowsky RV5, but i have got a feeling this bass may be in a different league...enough said... I need to know how good these basses are please.
23. Ohhhh i nearly tried out that Skjold Lions Pride.. it was originaly sold by Bass Direct..I think i would sell my Sadowsky to get that bass..looks fabulous..any ideas how they play??
