1. i think everyone digs basses in there own way, whether it be nieve,(spelling sorry) or experienced..His age may be a guess as to why he played the way he did,.. good or bad..im not a big fan of shop room Marcus Millers believe me, but no one in the shop cares, they want squids.. In his fingerstyle shop embarassment he may be a future bass master..so let him be, and get on with it..hopefully he didnt make a rash choice like buying a bass package. What was he playing???? All the same i played a Yamy TRB6 and within 2 chords some slap and some finger funk it was mine...Super Bass!!!!!!..2 minutes and i was in love..thats all it takes...
2.
Hello people. My name is Martin and I am new at this foreum. I live in the Netherlands, so if my Englis is a bit confusing or bad at some times, please forgive me. I am very much in love with the MTD KZ5, but I cannot find a lot of info on the internet about this bass. I have played it a couple of times and i really like it, but IF I buy it I have to trade 3 basses (2 squier and 1 handmade old "sugarbelly" Jazzbass) for it. I know that it is up to me and that buying an instrument is very personel, but I would really like some feedback from my colleague-bass players I hope you will help me out. Thanks
Hey Martin welcome tp BC..Dont know alot about this bass, but you may want to check out Harmony Central, and look at the reviews o this bass...

8. Im needing to brush up on my theory and hopefully learn some new techniques, so was hoping to go for some lessons.. Im in the cheltenham area..Any ideas of teachers in this area.. ps, i would prefer a teacher who just teaches bass and maybe not a guitar/bass lesson.
9. Amazing, just a great musician taking his craft, and perfecting it!!!! So much admiration...
10. MD..there is a great shop in Kent that not many people know..its called The American Guitar Centre, and strangely enough..BassWorld... They stock Epiphone, Fender, Squire, and even makes such as Lakland, Overwater, Alembic, Yamaha..And they are cheap.. They will prob have, or could get what you want.. Google it... Hope this helps..
11. WOW..love this bass..Beedster give PBY a shout, i think hes after a Jazz.. Or i may be sticking my nose in??
12. I have a 75 RI, and i dont think the covers affect the sound at all.....consider you get the most sound from the pickup you play over, so this is impossible with the covers over the pup...correct me if im wrong..i find it much easier to play with no covers on, its just more ergonomic.. Although i do like the look of these covers, if you play in multi right hand positions, and move around quickly from finger style to slap,.. i just makes playing too difficult.. IMO they are purely cosmetic..if they were of any use, Fender would still fit them..
13. I have a USA 75 jazz reissue and the pickups are fantastic..(depending on what bass you put them with, the best pickups in the world wont make a bass made from balsa wood sound good).....as for the machine heads, they are as good as any i have come across, bridges not so chunky. A squire Jazz may be a great way to go, i guess trying one out is the best option..The Lakland IMHO, is in a different league compared though..Longer scale length of the Laky, may be a deal breaker mind... What about a second hand MIM Jazz? Must try a squire jazz out, heard so many good things about them..
14. PBY, i would say a great bass to go for is the Lakland 44-01 for sale in the for sale section here. £400.00 from Riddler Awsome bass, and very versatile, Bartolini pick ups..i would say for that money, there is no better...
15. Ohhh!! if i hadnt just bought a Jazz i would have this off of you in a second!!!! bugger for bad timing!!
16. My RV5,,with VTC, Great bass..what a tone.....
17.
Incognito, superb. been trying to nail "Colibri" from Tribes,Vibes & Scribes for about 50 years now. Got the notes, got the speed, got the groove. Just can't seem to keep it going for what feels like 20 minutes. Ha ha.
Just from interest, Leschirons, im sure you know, but are you using the open string notes on Colibri? if not tis tricky otherwise..By the way, anyone who likes this stuff should check out a band called...'The Rebirth.'. aband from NYC..believe me these guys are good.. One of those albums that there is not bad song on...
18. I agree, Bass Collection are better basses, great pickups..
19.
Being an Anthony Jackson fanboy, I'd recommend checking out all the albums he did with Chaka Khan (Chaka, What 'Cha Gonna Do For Me, Naughty). Naughty in particular has some incredible lines on most of the tracks, which is probably due to the fact that Jackson spent a number of months composing his bass lines after the other parts had already been tracked. Regarding the Ain't Nobody part, it took me many hours of trying to get those octaves consistent in terms of volume, attack and note length before the part sounded remotely correct in a band context. It's a deceptively easy sounding tune, but trying to recreate parts produced by machines takes a lot of work - especially for drummers!
+1000..Naughty is her best.. and everything on it..Marcus, Anthony, Stevens, my fave.. W,Weeks,.. albums like this dont come around very often, and probably never will again,,.. with likes of the Brecker Bros too.!!!.Move Me no Mountain..WOW..!! Bar Innervisions,.and 'TheNight Fiy' this is as good as it gets IMHO.. Jackson was a real perfectionist of his craft, sometimes to paranoia. ..his playing is incredible!!! but im not sure if he caused himself more stress than he needed to...maybe thats just his personality, and the way he worked?? Fantastic though..like i said i cant imagine music like this coming around in the near future!?
20. I do apologise, i meant to reply to Oscars post but ive been a tit and dont know how to delete. Please Admins!!??
21. i only read the bits of this post Oscar (ok just the best bits) but it seems to me that the bass is only another small part in the evolution of music....every instrument gets 'its moment' in the bigger picture..for some reason in our modern times, (which i happen to think is the lack of appreciation of the lower register of sound in popular music) happens to be the Electric Bass).. I have always been a fan of the unsung hero of music from Willie Weeks, to Poogie Bell. Soloing is great.!!! in the right context...but i love the fact that the Electric Bass is there in the back, holding everthing together.. In my opinion, thats what makes us special.!!!.the fact that we think about the whole picture... while the guitarist is thinking about himself..(excuse my pigeons) Lets face it, in this multiple choice we call music, anything is possible..maybe what we choose is leftfield, or of the masses, but its all about the music. like Grace Jones said..im a slave to the music
22. I know tihis is opinion of course, and im prob ignorant of a few, but Pino is thought of by many as the best session's bass player, playing today..ermm Anthony Jackson said so..and i think so too... I can listen to his fretless playing all day long..he shows his true layed back form on Dangelo and Roy Hargrove playing..there are a few who will back me up on this forum for sure.. for his bass mind,. i dont think there are any better in the world. But i will say that Julian Crampton and Randy 'Hope' Taylor dont get enough respect,, these guys are in another world..
23.
Out of them all, I think Incognito rein supreme. Fantastic band live and they always deliver every time I see them (which has been quite a few times). Their last album (Tales from the Beach) is a cracker. A couple of spin offs worthy of a listen are the Satya Project album 'Shine a Light' and the Inner Shade album '4 Corners'. Cheers, Jim
Jim im glad u said Inner Shade,, tis great album..Yeah Tales from the beach is a cracker, Julian Crampton's bass work on the title track is great..Dont know if u know, but bluey has an album out with Tony Remy called First Protocal, Also u may want to listen to the All Star Collective and Real People, who i think he produced... check it out..He seems to do alot of spin off bands like that..Havent heard of Satya Project, will check it out thankyou... And yes the best band ive ever seen live, Bluey a very nice man too..
24.
