1. i presume you know the technique well.. If so , do what sounds good to you, but what ever you do , DONT slap at a thousand miles an hour where the music is lost and its a platform for your incredible agility. ( i hate those You Tube idiots)....i dont know what music you want to write a slap line to, but generally (IMHO) less is more.. A great way is to work out a simple bass line that fits the song fingerstyle, then thumb the same bass line, adding pops, etc when you think its sound ok... At the end of the day, Slap 'technique' is just that..it shouldnt rule the sound..again IMHO...
2. I have an old Lakland 55-01 and the neck is VERY grimey..It has a laquer on the neck as you may know..I have tried soap and water but it not coming off..I took the neck off and you can see the color it used to be..I would like to get it back to its original state..including the headstock.. The bass was made in 2003 so i doubt its ever been cleaned.. What isn the best thing to use?? Thanks
3. These new Jazzez are fantastic...This wont last long..
4. A favorite vid of mine.. Fagan and Brecker.......Just amazing....... Cant remember the bassists name now but he plays ESP basses...Just remembered its Tom Barney.. Love it!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylr2D4Pwn58
5.
Abraham Laboriel told me about this record. Bass parts were played by several players and edited and compiled to one bass track. The credits on the CD name one player for each track which isn't quite complete...this record costed millions of dollars to make and it's so smooth and perfected I really don't like to listen to it...I gave away my copy...
Your thinking about it to much..Its a brilliantly crafted album..and a joy to listen to.....IMHO
6. Bloody awsome bass mind...I would bloody love it for the bass and its ex owner....
7.
The Gallery are selling the bass on behalf of Chris Celinder. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=489710 I know at least one ex-Mark King Jaydee was sold for £5000 through the Bass Centre and that was about 10 years ago.
But CK, Eubassix used to own this..Did he sell it back to Chris??
8. Does anyone remember the M channnel on sky about 4 years ago...It used to have range of people and presenters teaching you different instruments including Bass..Twas very good... Whatever happened to it?
9. Just spotted the 'Meshell's' Celinder for sale in the Gallery for wait for it...... £5000.......Now i know Celinders are expensive but 5 grand??? Even if it was Meshell's.. The bass Gallery seem to really overprice there basses... And why do they think they can charge £150 more for a Sadowsky UV than Guitar Guitar..?? Surely they should be a bit more competitive, especially in today's climate
10.
Last chance, how about £450, no covers, but with the Badass & Fralins? Cracking bass for the cash......
Beed. just out of interest how good are the LF's..I hear great things..... B..
11.
Oh that is just SO not fair! How much did that set you back? and to answer the topic - get a fender american j-bass - best bass I ever bought (the only bass I've ever bought - my first was given to me and I've only ever own'd 2). I tried out almost every bass in GAK before settling on the j-bass... and i play quite a bit of slap. Seriously, with new strings... oooh... i did a man wee thinking of it....
+100 Pirate..A new set of nickles or steels on a jass is a supreme growly, funky, awsome tone..My custom shop with a slighty worn in set of DR's through an Aguilar, is the best thing ive heard on an electric bass..
12. man does the crack in this bass really make difference? im gonna wack my band member and let him know my bass bro/sisters dont like it...Remember its not the way you think about the instrument its the way you play :brow:
13. Some might say a Spitfire is not really a Jazz bass ^_^
14. I was quoting Chris B, where the original quote came from... ...but it looks like ive written the post, thats why i put ??? ..And i know what im talking about when it comes to Jazz basses!! Sorry to hijack this thread SS..
15.
Don't put the question marks in later to make it look like you knew what you was talking about...
Uhh? I put them in..i cant seem to pull up quotes from others
16. Mark King never used a Fender??? he's got a Fender Sig Jazz...
17. Sounds like he has GAS for one though....My advice is dont think that it has to be a USA Jazz...CIJ/MIJ Jazzez can be just as good..And you will save lots of money
18. Well im a little bias..but for slap a Jazz is awsome...But of course so are alot of other basses..Its all in your preference...I also think the Stingray is a slap machine...Dare i say it better than a Jazz?? Slap sounds great on many basses, its up to you find the slap tone you like... Of course you wont go wrong with a good Jazz bass..Ive had a good slap tone out of a P Bass too mind!!
19. I used to own this bass and its awsome....Especially for £400.. Have a bump Russ!!!
20.
Thanks guy! - I was looking hard at that Jazz you're selling - man that crack in the finish...how did you avoid extreme violence!!! good luck with the sale, btw - those are sweet basses. j
Although i was fuming at the time, i kind of think a Fender should have a few knocks on it..Its just a little more than a knock...
21. Very nice Johnny..Congratulations bro!!!! Bet it sounds awsome.. And welcome to BC..
