4.
Hey - we are not all indie rockers round here you know!! I am sure you have seen one of my bands play live Bubinga and hope you would agree that there is some funk in Cheltenham? Having said that when I started out with the bass it was the rock thing that got me going and all of that came from my brother - I can still remember the first time I put on the vinyl records of AC/DC If you want blood... and Iron Maiden's Iron Maiden. They blew me away and I just wanted to be Steve Harris for a few years!!! Interestingly enough Facebook had a thing the other week which was "5 albums which changed your life" and that was really hard to do but in the end it sort of illustrated my musical development starting out with Iron Maiden's first album then moving on to Metallica's Kill'Em All where Cliff Burton really made an impact and then moving on to Jamiroquai's EOPE and JTQ's In The Hand Of The Inevitable and I think there was something from Queen in there too in the middle. I soon decided that 5 albums was not enough but it was fun anyway! Mark
Hey Mark...Yeah have seen you play, as you know in the Railway and loved it..so yes there is funk in chelt for sure.....You hit the nail on the head..JTQ's In the hand of the Inevitable is just supreme..the best they did IMO... Mark do you know Vibraphonic? Also went to see Incognito a couple of weeks ago in London at the Camdem Centre..Francis Hilton was playing an Atelier Z...Was fantastic... I played in the erm...Frog and Fiddle last thursday...You playing anywhere in chelt again soon bro? PS.. did you get the GB you were after??
 5. I have a Stingray5 and i would say its one of the best 5 string's ive played...Just awsome tone...The best B string ive encountered....You just can not go wrong with one of these!!!!
 6.
Why the FLIP do I have GAS for a Jazz???
You love em thats why..You know you want to..

 8. WOW,, thats so cool...You ever want to trade for a Fender USA 75 RI jazz you let me know..
 9. Without wanting to sound rude...my Q is what string you prefer...Stainless or Nickle....What feels best for you..WarwickHunt, you must have played a few..!!
 10. For me it was my sister...We both came from NewZealand in 1980 and we were both brought up with stuff like, EWF, Anita Baker, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, Steely Dan, Crown Heights Affair. This was my breakfast muic on the radio.. etc through the 80's......until .. We used to listen to the Robbie Vincent Radio 1 show?? in the very early 90's, I think it was called the big beat show?? It was when Soul to Soul first came about, and others like Adeva's,... awsome "Respect" cover was playing..Mantronics, Omar, Brand New Heavies were about...And a Hip Hop act called Hijack, i was a big hip hop fan and still am...Mos Def, Gang Starr, Freddie the Fox, Paris, are awsome.. My sister won tickets to see Anita Baker in Birmingham for two...Thats when i saw Nathan East for the first time...Loved his playing, allways have done...Thats when i knew i loved soul music, have always listened to Anita to this day...Without wanting to sound cheesy, my and my Sister always get on better with Anita playing.... Anyway my sister was the spark that set me off ...why isnt this music more popular around my side of the country?? its all Indie or Rock,...has knowone heard of Donny Hathaway round ere??? Its very hard and rare!! to meet any musician round ere....that love's funk and soul...Makes you want to write your own stuff... Whats your progression to your love of music now.. PS..anyone heard.. Brand New Heavies.. "Rhyme Heavy Experience" the best funky hip hop ive heard!!!!
 11.
Anyone see Grace Jones performing Love You to Life on Jonathan Ross. No idea who her bassist was but I really liked the loping groove he was playing (probably Robbie Shakespeare on the album version?).
No Molan but i will check it out...I love Graces music, She always had sounds in her music that i had never heard before....She is a very interesting person also..her popular songs like 'Private Live'...'Slave to the Rhythm' ..'Pull up to the Bumper'.. La Vie Rose..are just sooo good....Pull up to the Bumper is just one of the best groove/funk songs ive ever heard...And slave to the ryhthm is just incredibly loose and funky.. Tis maybe Robbie as he plays on her new album..Have you heard it?? Ive heard she can play a mean funky electric bass too..Just like Chaka Khan on a Jazz bass
 12. I have played both the MIM and the Squire, and to be honest i couldnt tell the difference...Its great for funky blues scale fingerstyle, and a nice tone when digging in...The Squire Jazz is a greatly improved instrument, over its older models... I would buy the Squire, then MOD it with Lindy Fralins a Badass and some DR Highbeams.....Now were talking...You would prob (IMHO) find that the natural sound of a Squire jazzez body wood, is capable of much more than what the stock pups limit it to... Play them both as much as you can..Not that ive ever bought a bass i really got to know first..Go for what ticks all your bass playing boxes.. This is my usual mental response to trying a new bass.. Look Comfort Weight Feel Touch Tone Punch Sustain Build Quality In that order..I think if you like every one of these criteria in a bass, you wont go far wrong..obviously there not all attainable...depends what you like most..... I may add, not attainable to this price range.... in the respective opinion of others..
 13. That jazz is sweet!!!...Why do i love the look of a Jazz so much... Oh thats why..
 14. Any opinions on these types of strings...Im in two minds..I love the zingy sound from Stainless, but the feel is very tacky to my fingers sometimes (especially when the humidity is high)...But i love the feel of Nickles (i love the smooth feel) but the tone is not so bright...I do love a bright sounding string that has been played a few times, and has the edge taken off it... My choice strings have been Elite's Stainless for a while now, as they have a great bright/modern sound to them... I also like Labella Flats for flat wounds. Is there anything in the middle of the two?? What are Elixers like?
 15. Beautiful Matt....Whats the switch? What are the specs, Where was it made?
 16.
Passive Jazz? Is that like Kenny G?
17.
Is this for your new 1970 reissue?
Yes Loyd..Only thinking about it mind..The stocks are a little noisy
 18.

ha ha..whooops, what an idiot...i didnt mean to put active in the original post..
 19. To be honest i couldnt bear to put Active pickups in a bass like this!!!!
 20.
I have one and it sounds fantastic the only thing that bugs me is the fact that Fender didn't add the 'contoured body' decal on the headstock.
Blimey James nice basses in the avatar..What are they all?? Do i see a Spitfire?
 21. If you were to choose any active pick up set to go into a passive Jazz bass (without a pre amp) to replace a Single Coil set, what would you go for and why...Something hum cancelling... Interested to know what you all think about differences in tones between brands? EMG Nordstrand Bartolini Wizard Villex any other suggestions?
 22.
I followed the other thread, mate. Looks great & I'm glad you really like it - Is it really better than your Sadowsky?
I wouldnt say better Rich, different yes..This being passive obviously..To me its a bit more special...Ive been after a Jazz that just feels right and this does...its hard to explain.. I really thought hard about letting the RV go, cause its fantastic..But a Fender like this doesnt come up very often..Id like a sadowsky again sometime though....You cant beat that preamp...
