1. Love Faith No More, saw them live in Paris years ago and they were fantastic.
2.
Gig was ok,,,car is a write-off
Sorry to hear that, hope you're ok man.
3.
^This^ Hells Bells (AC/DC tribute) are playing locally soon, and I'll certainly be getting tickets. I've seen them a couple of times before and they have been excellent. I'm unlikely to get the same 'intimate' experience from the real thing, assuming they are touring anywhere near the UK in the forseeable future. I think there's a certain amount of snobbery in some of the responses to this thread. Yes, probably all of us would like to be in a top original band - however the majority of us will probably never reach those heights. I have a feeling that some of the site members here are in tribute or covers bands, and other members could perhaps be a little more supportive. However the occasional negative sentiments do not reflect the overall positive vibe of basschat. There are good & bad tribute acts, the same as there are good and bad bands of all genres. <Puts tin hat on ready for flaming>
A very good friend of mine, who i used to be in a band with, was the lead guitarist in Hells Bells for several years. They did some really big gigs to massive crowds all across the UK and in Europe so i guess there's plenty of people who have no problem with tribute bands!
4. I've had my NS2000 from new, they are such great basses, especially for the price. In comparison to my Warwick, it's quite heavy and the neck is chunkier but it just feels right. A few basses have come and gone in the 12 years I've owned it but I can't see me ever parting with it now. In fact, I've instructed the wife that when I pop my clogs she's free to sell all my other gear but the Spector goes in the ground with me!!
5.
.Going to gig with some D'Addario Prosteels this weekend though so time will tell!
If you like zingy, you'll love Prosteel's! Been using them for a while now, had a set with a duff E string, quick email to D'Addario, couple of complimentary sets arrived less than 48 hours later, so great strings and great service.
6. Aaarrgghh, my f***ing eyes!! That is hideous beyond belief!
7.
I know you are right so I'm in the best of company. If I can afford one and there's room here then there's no reason why not to. My dogs can't really object . Here's to healthy obsession .
I sold my '05 USA P last year (I'd owned it from new), I bought it because I was doing some stuff with a friends blues/classic rock band. Once I stopped doing that I didn't really use it much, so after 4 years of hardly any use I decided to move it on and get a Warwick (which I'd wanted for about 20 years!). Now I love my Warwick and don't regret that part of my decision at all, BUT the number of times recently I've been doing a song and thinking "that fender would've sounded great for this track" , and found myself thinking "just drop the guy you sold it to a message and see if you can buy it back". It's strange stuff that GAS I tell thee!! lol
8.
My strategy is to add a USA P bass and an electric upright to my current basses and I believe I will be satisfied ....
No you won't be, you'll just think of something else you want! It's what we all do!!
9. Another vote here for OBBM, great quality, great value, quick delivery. Why would anyone go elsewhere??
10. One of my favourite albums ever. The Ox's bass tone on this album just blows me away, in particular on The Real Me and The Punk and the Godfather! In fact I'm going out in the car now and think I might have to take it with me! ( Added bonus that our new estate car has got Bose sound system with a woofer under the boot floor!! )
11.
My mate Steve playing all instruments on YYZ............. Makes you sick doesn't it!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZmP4FngzHA
That is pretty bloody impressive!!
12.
I had a meeting today, 1hr drive there, 1hr drive back. Listened to Wham First time I have listened to Wham since I've been a bassist..... OMG awesome basslines!! You have made my day by coaxing me today x
Glad to be of service! x They had some great songs, really catchy, and with the added bonus of Dion Estus' laying down some awesome grooves, great tone too.
13.
Nice, haven't listened to any Wham for ages, but have the urge now
Go do it now, guaranteed to make you smile! I'm not long home from a 10hr nightshift and should be sleeping but instead I'm now listening to Wham songs on YouTube!!
14. Wham rap came on the radio on my drive home from work this morning, great tune!! I'd forgotten just how good a bass player Dion Estus is, think I might be putting some Wham on the iPod today!
15. Not music related, but I once had a pretty big accident on the M5 on my way back to Bristol in my work van. I had a big snap-on cab in the back , which I'd only got around to bolting down a couple of days before, and boxes of machine parts etc. I always used to moan about the wooden bulkhead preventing me fitting long stuff inside and having to put it on the roof. Safe to say when I looked at the carnage in the back of the van I thought "well, I'll never moan about that again"! I dread to think what would have happened had it not been there. Once the wreckage had been moved to the hard shoulder and I'd spoken to police etc, I sat on the bank looking at what was left of my van and thought I better ring my boss, this is exactly how the conversation went: Me: "Ken, I've had an accident on the motorway" Him: "what's happened?" Me: "I've gone under the back of an artic" Him: "how bad is the van?" Me: "I'm fine, thanks for asking!!" Him: "That's not what I asked, how bad is the van?" Me: "it's completely totalled,I was lucky to get out of it in one piece" Him: "sh*t, let me know what time you'll be home and I'll get a hire van dropped off so you can still go to Wrexham in the morning" Me:"F**k off" End call! What a nice boss to work for!
16. My Streamer LX is my main bass. I use it for every gig regardless of whether it's a function in a posh hotel or providing some background music for the fighting down the local! The majority of our gigs are pubs at the moment so if I didn't use it in pubs it would be left at home 90% of the time and simply can't justify having almost £2k worth of bass not being used. I always try to find a safe spot for it between sets etc and it's back in the case as soon as we finish. If anything kicks off while we're playing I'm ok as our singer/rythmn guitarist uses a very expensive Heritage guitar which he's very protective of, and he's a bit of a headcase so I know as long as i'm further back than him I know he can get stuck in long enough for me to get the Warwick back in it's case!!
17. Without wishing to tempt fate, the ABM was my main amp for about 8 years and I never had a single problem with it. So you can guarantee the next time I go to use it, it's probably gonna explode now!!
18.
Btw before I got the 3.0 I had a Laney head that cost me £100, I just left it in the van unless it was a wedding/function then I would set it up and leave it at the back within arms reach just in case, it was something to do while the speeches dragged on and on .......
Same as I do, just leave the ABM in the car unless I need it.
19. My wife's cousin is a pro bassist, he was recently rehearsing for a tour and his GK rig was in being serviced so he borrowed a MB800 and 2 BF compacts and it sounded immense!
20. I've got a Sansamp PBDDI that I use as a drive pedal so can use that into PA for smaller gigs should the inevitable happen. However for bigger gigs where the PA would be pushed to take the bass as well I have got an ABM500 head that I chuck in the car just in case.
21. Yes I quite like some of their stuff, we do Club Foot which is good fun to play, and sometimes put Shoot the runner in the set too.
22. Disco Inferno- The Tramps I was made to love her- Stevie Wonder White Lines- Grandmaster Flash
23. Just been browsing eBay and if you want something with some serious grunt, there's a 1000W Warwick Tubepath on there which is currently on £200, ending on sunday. Obviously you can't guarantee it'll end up going for that sort of money but you never know! I know some Warwick gear is about as popular as a dose of the clap around here, and I'm biased but if it goes for anything near that price it's a great piece of kit for the money!
24.
That would be a hell of an amp, even if you use it into your current MAG cab.
Agreed. Great amp for that sort of money, if I was in the market for a head I'd be snapping it up and using the rest of my budget to buy a couple of the best 8ohm 2x10's I could afford. As someone has already said, with a pair of 210's you can use one for rehearsal/smaller gigs and when you need the extra oomph, or just to get the cabs up higher you can stack them vertically. Better sound dispersion and that great GK tone, can't imagine you'd be disappointed with it.
