1. Cool track! Seems like every time i've watched a band live or a video lately there's a Stingray 5 involved and it's giving me GAS! Which is strange for a couple of reasons 1) I've never really taken any notice of Stingrays (sorry Pete ) and 2) i have no need for a 5 string, i get by quite nicely with hipshots on my 4's! But anyway back on track, cool song mate and the Ray looks awesome.
2. Until recently i had a Astra 1.7CDTi, only an oldish one ('02 plate), great little van. Mine had a rear seat conversion, which when weren't being used folded down completely flat. Even loading and unloading an 8x10 on my own was easy, wheel it up to the back, tilt and slide! The CDTi's are excellent on fuel too. Mine was insured on a commercial policy as i used it for work so not sure about the SD&P policy costs. If it's going to be your only form of transport the rear seat conversion comes in very handy, there's normally loads of them on ebay with the conversion done. I only sold mine because work circumstances changed and the band normally travel to gigs together in our singers Transit so i didn't have any real need for it anymore.
3.
Absolutely agree..
I had my wife with me as we were already in London that weekend, she does show an interest in all things bass just because it's my passion, but even she thought TM was brilliant. He's such an entertainer, you had Mr Clusterf**k doing all that 1,000mph w***ery in the main hall, then TM comes into the audiotorium, lays down the simplest of funk grooves and every bassist in the room gives an approving nod and smile as if to say "now THIS is what we came to see"!!
4. I'd been toying with the idea of making one as we seem to be doing more and more gigs for various motorcycle clubs which are almost always in village halls/community centres with big old boomy wooden stages. Went on to Bass Drects website on Friday night and saw Mark was doing the great gramma for £60, ordered one and it's just arrived. Can't wait to use it, next gig is a friends birthday bash in a local community centre with a big wooden stage!
5.
My opinion is coloured by the godawful Clutterbuckery that took place on the Saturday of the last one (I gather it was better noise regulated on the Sunday). I am more likely to go if a bunch of BC mates are there so will check nearer the time (it's only 10 minutes from where I live so I have the luxury of not having to worry about travel)
It was better on the sunday, they had "quiet periods" which gave everyone a break from mr machine gun clusterf**k! He seems like a really nice guy to chat to, but as soon as the bass is on then he's like a man possessed!! He was at a stand just across from the rotosound stand when i arrived last year, and i had tthe pleasure of being caught in the crossfire as he cranked the amp to within an inch of it's life!!
6. I take it that was the one on ebay in Cheltenham then? I was tempted by it for that price but decided i don't really need it, although if it was the 4ohm version i might've gone for it! I agree with the "why make a 6ohm?" question, i don't really know why anyone would want a 6ohm cab rather than a 4 or 8ohm. Warwick must know that us bass players are simple animals, give us 4 or 8, don't confuse us! After all, as every non bass player will tell you, we only play bass because we're not clever enough to play guitar!!
7. I love my Warwick WCA cabs, as you can see in my pic i've got a 115 and a 411. I use the 411 on its own quite a bit and it always delivers, whether i'm after tight punchy funk or filthy overdriven rock. One thing to bear in mind is the weight, my 411 is only just under 40kg! and if i remember rightly the 611 is up around 55kg(which is actually heavier than the 8x10 neo cab) although it has the casters and tiltback handle which makes it much easier to move about. If the weight isn't a big deal then you can bag yourself a real bargain with these Warwick cabs.
8. Is the special guests line-up exactly the same as last year or have they just not confirmed and updated the website? Hope TM Stevens is there again, his performance on the sunday afternoon last year was awesome!!
9. Warwick's seem to be really hard to shift at the moment, they seem to be out of fashion right now, which is great for buyers but not so great for sellers like yourself. Even the more desirable late 80's/early 90's models are changing hands for ridiculously low prices. I've got a 2009 LX4 and they are great basses. Good luck with the sale.
10. Sorry i was having a blonde moment then, the Q prefix models are bolt on, don't know what i was thinking! Mine is a neck thru model, as for the dip switches i'm not entirely sure tbh, If you email PJ at Spector he's a really helpful guy, i emailed him the serial number off mine as i was unsure of the exact model (it was a present) and he emailed me back within the hour with all the details! As mine was a present i'm not 100% sure how much it cost but if i recall correctly these basses retailed in the UK at the time for under £500. Even at that price they were good value so at second hand prices they really are a bargain. As i said mine only stopped being my main gigging bass because i bought a German Streamer but i'll never part with it, and if for whatever reason it becomes my main gigging bass again i'd have no problem with that at all.
11. It is a spector NS2000, they were built in the Korean factory around the year 2000(hence the name), passive EMG HZ pickups with an active Tonepump tone circuit. I think the one's with that quilted sort of finish were called NS2000/Q4. I've got one identical to this, i've had it from new and until a couple of months ago when i bought a Warwick Streamer LX it was my main gigging bass. They are really good basses for the money, especially what they can be picked up for second hand, and the price doesn't reflect the build quality, i can't fault mine. It only got relegated to my back up bass because i'd always wanted a Streamer and one came up at the right price at the right time. They are quite heavy but that was never much of an issue for me. I know some Spector owners aren't that keen on the Tonepump but i always got on ok with it. Have fun, they are lovely to play.
12. Just bought a Korg DTR2000 from Matt, good communication, really well packaged and in excellent condition. Would have no hesitation in dealing with Matt again. Top bloke. Lee
13. Cheers guys, just wanted to double check. Much appreciated.
14. Hi guys, I've got a couple of 4 way horizontal PDU's(the type you would find in a comms cabinet), i was going to fit one into the back of my rack so i can loom the power cables for my amp head, rack tuner and the power supply for my sansamp so that when i get to a gig/rehearsal i just open the back, plug the PDU in and away i go. My query is that the PDU's have an earth bonding stud on them and when i've used them in comms cabinets i've always ran an earth back to the earth bar in the cabinet, as it says on the PDU that it requires earthing. would i need to earth it in my rack? it's a Gator ABS rack case which i'm sure has no earth facility so not sure how i'd go about it. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers Lee
15.
It's ready? I'm going to have to try it now! - but the 2 most important questions... 1) What is the weight of the thing? 2) What is the input impedence?
Weight is about 14kg i think, and according to one of the very few youtube clips you can find it goes down to 2ohm. I couldn't wait any longer for it to be released so went out and bought a Warwick Tubepath instead, and now less than 2 months later the Kilo is in UK stores!!
16.
You lucky sod - a warwick rig !!!! What did you think i was gonna say Nice one Dave
The tubepath head was a present from the wife!!
17. Bloody typical when i've just forked out for the Warwick rig in my pic!! Whats the retail on the Kilo?
18. My wife is an absolute star, never moans about the amount of gear i buy, the amount of gigs i do or the fact that when i rehearse on a wednesday night i'm gone before she gets home from work and i go straight from rehearsal to do a nightshift and often miss her in the morning too. I sometimes play football sunday morning and rehearse in the afternoon, all she says is "let me know when you're on your way back from football and i'll get lunch ready so you can have time for a quick chill before rehearsal"! She doesn't even mind when my gear takes over the house at times(at the moment the Warwick rig and Ashdown rig in my sig are both stood in our dining room), and all this with the added bonus that she's 28 and very very hot(i'm 41 bald and overweight)!
19. Just bought a Sansamp programmable BDDI from Jon, arrived less than 24 hours after i'd sent the money(and on a saturday!!), the pedal is absolutely immaculate, and very well packaged, would not hesitate to deal with Jon again. Many thanks Lee
20. Well if any bolt on Warwick built after the year 2000 has a neck like a club then my Spector must be a whole tree trunk because the neck on my '09 Streamer LX is definitely thinner than my NS!
21. If you're after a direct comparison between the SVT3 and the PF500, drop Lozz196 a message, he's had both and could give you some views.
22. Big +1 for Nate Mendel, a man of immaculate timing and impeccable taste, what more could you want! I'll add Bruce Foxton, way underrated IMO.
23. Audition him, see what he's like. Then once you've heard him play and met him in person if you decide he is creepy just say thanks but no thanks.
24.
Nothing wrong with the Korean Corvettes - my recently purchased Bubinga 4 string is testament to that - great build quality, sounds amazing, same hardware as the German ones - and i paid a shade over £400 (it's 2 years old and mint) Don't let the Korean element put you off - from my (admittedly limited) experience - they're great. Graeme
The Korean models are good basses for the price second hand, but if you consider what they cost to buy new and what a German model used can be picked up for it's a no-brainer really!
25. Got to go along with what everyone else is saying here, if you've got £600ish to spend then don't even think about a rockbass, the fact that Warwick's seem so unfashionable at the moment puts you in a great position, there's some great second hand German Warwick's floating about at the moment for ridiculous prices! I actually considered buying a brand new Korean Pro series Streamer, but then i saw sense and picked up the lovely German LX4 in my pic for a hell of a lot less than a korean one would;ve been! Result! It's a buyers market at the moment, even more so where Warwick's are concerned, so get in there while it lasts!
