1.
TV people shouldn't be left in charge of music programs. It seems the subject isn't enough for them. That's why you always get the likes of Al Murray telling you how good the band was when you wanted to be listening to the band. I'm surprised Bono wasn't invited to gush.
As it 'appens, I've been doing a bit of work recently for someone involved in The Beatles Anthology, so I ended up watching all of that. Yes, it's something like 11 hours long, but there's no filler at all. There's not even any talking heads - the only people interviewed for it were the surviving Threetles, George Martin, Neil Aspinall and Derek Taylor. The level of detail it goes into is astonishing, yet even a casual fan like myself was totally transfixed. It's 20 years old, and it's still the yardstick for how it should be done. EDIT - mind you, it took five years to make and probably cost silly money. Probably a lot cheaper these days, mind.
 2.
Felt embarrassed for Steve as he explained why he left while the rest of them looked on stoney-faced
I wouldn't feel too bad. From the look of his new album cover, I don't think he does embarrassment.
 3. Bassmatters in Njimegen? Dunno what the trip there from Amsterdam will be like - just hoying it in the mix.
 4.
I'm not doubting Kiogon's excellent work, but there must be a complete lack of soldering ability on this board. Banging together a decent wiring loom yourself is actually a piece of cake for anyone with a modicum of ability and a tiny bit of motivation to learn how to solder.
Sometimes people just like the confidence of knowing something has been put together by someone who knows what they're doing. Also, some people have of a complete lack of available time to research it and do it.
 5. Try lowering the pickups.
 6. Good on Alex for getting out there and letting his stuff do the talking.
 7.
Just a daft question, but as we are told that the 'valve sound' comes from the interaction between the valve preamp and the valve power amp, is it not possible to have say a valve pre driving a low wattage valve power amp driving a class D type amp module with a lightweight switch mode power supply?
That's what the Mesa Walkabout and MPulse stuff does (albeit with a solid state final stage, rather than Class D)
 8. Lyin' Eyes is a great song! I'm doing a dep this weekend with a band that has 30 songs in the set - including, amongst others:

Rock Around the Clock
Mr. Brightside
Livin' on a Prayer
Wonderful Tonght
That horrible Sexy Fire song
Hey Brother (by some Swedish DJ. never heard it before now)
Schitzophrenic? Yep. At least it won't get boring.
 9.
After a couple of rehearsals and gigs, I can safely say that this is a great bass! Sits prefectly in the mix, and really nails the classic flatwound P sound. An embarrassingly large amount of compliments from people who know what they're talking about. It's a good 'blank canvas' to shift the tone towards a more specific type too - I use an Aguilar Tone Hammer pre, and have some settings I've worked out that give me a very good B15 impersonation. Very happy indeed
Sounds lovely. I should have put the order in for my P ages ago, but I just can't make my mind up on the colour! It was going to be Oly, then LPB, but now I like the idea of charcoal frost. Gah!
 10.
I liked Chris Slade with AC/DC on some of the material, but on other parts it seemed a bit rushed. Darn good drummer though.
No danger of that based on Highway to Hell from the Grammys. My God.... I think they're about halfway through the first verse as I type.
 11.
the look on phil jones face after he asks the sales guy to demo the quantum 800 and gets the slap fest...!
In this clip? I know... I can only think the guy is part of an elaborate wind-up. https://www.youtube....h?v=0shUDh-IlM8
 12. Phil Jones Bass launched their Bluetooth-equipped combo at NAMM too. Dunno anything about price, features, whether it's any good or not, etc. http://youtu.be/BQD99KtNxlM
 13. Big stages are great when accompanied by a big PA, big crowd and decent lights. If any of those are missing, it can take the shine off it.
 14.
They are good they sound great, Fred Barchetta have a better singer I think ( the great Uriah Duffy on bass) really amazing . http://youtu.be/HodK8zn7xz4
I can't forgive the drummer for getting the part wrong around the 40s mark...
 15. Here's a Drum-heavy clip from last weekend. Our set is original material, but we get to cut loose on a cover medley for the encore... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPXut04HsIY
 16. Good stuff... Singer is great. I don't think he's singing to a prerecord, Not sure he could handle any earlier stuff, though..!
 17. Ha ha... what a load of nonsense. Hands up if Budge Magraw's accent sounded nowt like you expected. *raises hand*
 18. I don't find anything odd at all about someone preferring cash.
 19. Just noticed she's playing in an orchestra. Any reason why an acoustic wouldn't make more sense?
 20. Here's a DrumCam clip from my gig with The Caffreys at The Live Theatre in Newcastle last weekend. The set is all original material, apart from our encore medley. Unfortunately, the camera I set up had a hissy fit, and all I could salvage was half the medley. Still, it shows us cutting loose a bit... http://youtu.be/IPXut04HsIY
 21.
Um. Yes. I think you've just re-made my point.
My bad - I misread. OK, Heinz come up with lots of new stuff, but how much of it sets the world alight? They'll always be known for beans, ketchup and soup.
 22.
Why this strange belief that a company can only produce the same old stuff or produce new stuff? Heinz have come up with new products, after all, not just baked beans with basil or baked beans with chilli sauce or baked beans with bananas.
And now change 'bass' to 'beans':
You mean those aren't just the same old bass with different go-faster stripes on?
23.
Wateroftyne posted this vid to a similar query I had a while back. Spikedrivers - Young and Stupid (LIVE):
I was just about to post this again :-)
 24. Is it just for playing around the house? if so, the Roland looks fine for starters. Anything gig-wise, I wouldn't bother. Mrs. WoT always DI's via an LR Baggs stage pre.
 25.
You mean those aren't just the same old bass with different go-faster stripes on?
OK, how about: TRUE FACT: None of these have, or will, sell very well. So hats off to them for even trying.
