2. I can't take Ashdown seriously any more... they used to be one of the hard-hitters, now they just seem like lightweights. And not in a good way. For their sakes, I hope this is great.
3. If you're good, you'll get a following. It doesn't matter who wrote the tunes.
4. I used mine at an open mic last night.. waltzed in with my bass in one hand, and the combo in another. Plonked it on the floor, tilting it up using the built-in stand, set the volume and vintage/modern filter to taste, and... shazam! Ready to go. It sounded great... as it always does. One of the best-kept secrets in bass, these things...
5.
sold mine. very low output
You did check the preset volumes, didn't you? If they're set low it would give the impression of low output. Resetting them to factory defaults would have sorted that. I sold mine because... it didn't knock my socks off, but then neither had any amp I've owned for the last five or six years. Whatever it is I was looking for (I can't really quantify it), the Streamliner has it. Many people are happy with their RH450s, though.
6.
Could have been a fake - there was one on ebay a while ago.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't - my mate's au-fait with 6-string Fenders. If it had been a fake, he'd have spotted it.
7. Text message conversation as follows: Guitar-playing pal: How much do Marcus Miller Jazzes fetch? Me: Why? Guitar-playing pal: Just been playing one in a second-hand shop in town. Me: If it's 4-string and natural... About £600 Guitar-playing pal: They want £200 for it!!! I'll go back there now Guitar-playing pal: Bollocks! Bloke walked out of shop with it just as I got to the door :-( Me: @!**!@! Ah, well. Thinking about it, I suppose it was probably nicked anyway.
8.
Thanks again for the replies guys Might grab that book, also interesting re the serial number, why do you think bassdirect are saying 81 ?
The serial numbers basically stopped at S9xxxxx for a few years, until '81/'82. It might be '81 based on pot codes, or seller's provenance.
9.
Friday
10.
While reading the "Stage Positions - where to stand" thread it occured to me that many bassists stand in a specific stage area because of deafness in one ear. Any particular reason why ? I've played in bands for over 30 yrs including loud rock bands and have no hearing issues that i've heard about I get tested every 2 yrs through my job. I work in engineering with high decibel levels of machinery noise. Just curious Cheers Dave
Count yourself lucky... some people are just more susceptible to it.
11. Low-pass filter aside, there was something about the lows on the RH450 that didn't quite ring my bell. They were just a but mushy...
12. Ah-ha.... there it is... 'tweetertone'.
13. Cheers, HJ! My only reservation with this is the lack of a record level - it's pre-set, isn't it? Did you ever find it was a problem?
14. I'll just give this a little bump as I'm interested in recommendations, too... Something with OK video would be nice, too. For as cheap as possible.
15. Awesome! Best head I've ever owned.. I use Berg HS210s... They're a great match. I'm guessing with the AE112 that you'll not have to be shy when it comes to rolling the bass off...
16. Flats are awesome. However, I was at the Yorks bass bash yesterday, and I put rounds on my J because I knew it would sound hopeless solo'd next to all the other rounds-strung basses. In the mix, though... HAWT!
17.
Imagine LVS becoming second nature
...it'll give 'em more time to daydream about all the money they're going to get from extortionate ticket prices. mumblemumblemumble
18.
Highlights for me were: WoTs Genz Benz Streamliner. Massive tone and it coupled really well with my Barefaced Super Twelve.
I agree.. it was a hell of a good match!
19. Turn the cab on its side / upside down and see if it still does it...
20.
ok cheers guy's
I was being sarcastic - there's nowt wrong with them It's hard to tell how much it would go for. Have you got any pics? They changed a bit throughout the 70s.
21.
You're more likely to have to pay someone to take it away, they're utter junk.
No-one's ever recorded anything worthwhile using a 70s Fender bridge. Hopeless things.
22. It's still lookin' good for me, unless Saturday's gig is a particularly late one... Streamliner 900, Berg HS210 (just one, I think), '71 Jazz, '71 Precision... I might hoy the Promethean combo in there as well...
23. You're going to need to put a price on it... Good luck with the sale!
24.
Another consideration is whether to learn metric or imperial scales. This has caused me great confusion when I get them mixed up.
Careful.. someone might take you seriously. Wait.. you are serious, aren't you?
