Ah - you're assuming it was in tune at the time the photo was taken... 😇 -

I’ve just lined it up with my others, and just noticed how dark the board is. It really pops. -

Honestly, I can’t tell the difference. Had I not known it was basswood from the spec, I’d have assumed alder. -

Almost the same - ovals is the main difference, I think. Maybe bridge pickup position too? Lovely bass, though! I didn’t import it. Bought it locally, but don’t know its history before that… -

Sorry to say it’s a classic 60s J profile. Nice and fast! -
Hello! Couldn't resist this one. Never seen another in the UK. Any others out there? A pretty unique spec - ovals, matching headstock, blocks & binding. Board is a lovely bit of rosewood, body is basswood. Pickguard was switched to black at some point, but I've got a correct replacement on there now. It plays and sounds great 🙂

You didn't look at the content of his other vids, then? -
Ha! Truth is, I’d love to use a P for the earlier stuff, but as the guitar / keys lads have a lot of switching around to do, it’s left to me to do a lot of the between-song chat.

Cheers! It really is. Here's a clip. Bass sounds exactly as I want. Flatwounds FTW!

Have you ever considered a different hobby? -
An Eagles tribute show at The Fire Station in Sunderland, a relatively new 550-cap venue. I reckon it's probably one of the best in the country. The hall is beautiful... acoustic perfection. The PA is premiere league. The staff are lovely, and absolutely on it. It even has parking! Used my MIA Standard Jazz, with the G&L L2000 on standby. Rig was, of course the Handbox R-400 (with its lovely on-board DI) and TKS S212.

Same amp & cab as forever. New bass, tho! -
I don't think they were..? They were just beginning their 'Long, drawn out arrangement' phase. (edit) I will say that it sounds like their TV feed was mixed by a drummer...

NBD: 1998 G&L L-2000 - the one from the catalogue...
wateroftyne replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
It follows the contour, and it'a rolled off slightly. -
Continuing my post-midlife crisis 'straying from Precisions' period, I couldn't resist this absolute stunner over the weekend. Just... look at it. It's a 1998 model, and was actually the L-2000 they used in the catalogue that year. A couple of honest dings here an there, but otherwise spot-on. I'll be gigging it on Friday.

A great example of what-could-have-been bass-wise is the Brendan Lynch mix of Champagne Supernova. It's a lovely part.

Rickenbacker 4003SW - 2015 - trades considered *** SOLD ***

(UPDATE - ON HOLD FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS) Hey hey! Would consider trade involving a nice Precision or Jazz... let me know what you have. I picked this up recently in a trade, and as beautiful as it looks and sounds, it's not a Fender... so off it goes. This is a stunning example from the initial 2015 run of walnut & maple SW's. Resonant & rich, and only 8lbs 15oz. It's got the factory-fitted pull-out knob which kicks in the more traditional Ric sound. Despite being 10 years old, it looks basically new. Get out your magnifying glass and you might spy a couple of light marks on the back, but really it looks like it's just come out of the factory. Comes with original case, and candy - pickup cover, warranty card, polish cloth etc. Currently fitted with Chromes. I'm not keen to ship this... yet. Collection from Tyneside, or I could meet up within reason.

Add me to the 'Get your hand in your pocket, Eavis!' crowd. It's fairly shabby that so many artists play for the entry fee to the event wot they're playing at.
