I remember when he first started popping up years ago. I couldn't bear him - his stuff was so TECHNICOLOR and in-your-face. Turns out he was just ahead of the curve. I still couldn't bear him until recently, but at some point I had another go accepting him as a bit of a cartoon character, and... I get him now. He's funny. That said, I'd never watch him to learn anything.

They do. My only gripe is the near-invisible dot markers front-and-side on the others - thankfully not a thing on the ‘66.

Eagles tribute gigs for the last couple of nights. First, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh. It's a gorgeous hall with a lot of history. House PA, extremely good engineer, great lights Best of all, though: 800 people in... on a Thursday night! Hats off to the promoter. Last night was a lovely theatre outside of Whitehaven. A little more cramped, but another very enjoyable night. I used my new (but not new) 1996 MIA Jazz RI, and it's a Bobby Dazzler. Love it. The only downside was the van breaking down as we left Whitehaven. I finally got home just before 5am 😅 💤

Hey gang For a while now I've been on the hunt for a J to use on my Eagles tribute gig. I picked this up a few days ago, and - ever-wary that you don't quite know what a bass really sounds like until you've gigged it - after a couple of shows I've happily torn the plastic film off the pickguard. It's absolutely lovely. Light, resonant, even across the neck, and sits perfectly in the mix. A nice smooth top, with a lovely growl when you slide and dig in. Happy days.

I did. Nice bass - neck profile not for me though. -

Has anyone dealt with them before? I asked them a perfectly reasonable question and got short shrift. Just wondering if I've caught them on an off-day...? -
A weekend of Eagles tribute shows. Halifax Playhouse on Friday - a beautiful old hall, formerly a methodist church. A lovely, friendly crowd. A bit of a nervy trip back to Tyneside which involved negotiating a couple of floods. Next day, another Playhouse - this time at Alnwick, a little closer to home. Another lovely crowd. The front row of seats is int he same level as the band, and one particular highlight was when a chap in the front row spilled his drink, sending ice all over the stage. He got on his hands and knees, and crawled around under our feet trying to pick it ip, which he couldn't quite manage as ice is rather slippy. It all went on for a comically long time. This is the stuff you really remember in years to come. Next stop - Edinburgh & Whitehaven. Pics...

Love this! Originally Selmer Fiesta Red, maybe? That would explain the tort guard.

Ah... I'd heard about the car crash but didn't realise it was that severe. That explains the sunglasses on later vids. It's a shame. GG's band seem to do a great job. I was going to try and see them at Gateshead next year but the only seats left are rubbish, and Paul Burgess has retired, so decided not to. Another to add to my all-too-long 'I wish I'd seen...' list.

I wonder what the root of that is..? Also, it puzzles me why Stewart has dropped out as much as he has. How someone as talented as that can just... stop... is really strange.

Deceptive Bends, tho.. what an album. Band name source has since been debunked 🙂

And the intro to this is so contemporary - it doesn’t sound like it was recorded by a bunch of Mancunians in 1977, one of whom wrote ‘No Milk Today’ for Herman’s Hermits, while the other sang ‘A Groovy Kind of Love’ for the Mindbenders. It’s.. mindbending.

I agree. Can’t believe I haven’t heard it before now.

Somehow, over the last half a century, 10cc have escaped my attention. Of course I was aware of them, and some of their tunes, but it's only the last few weeks I've realised what a rich seam they are / were. Wonderful writing, arranging, performances, lyrics and artwork. Feel The Benefit is the soundtrack to my life at the mo, and it even has a bass solo around the 9:20 mark. Graham Gouldman is a hell of a player.

Disappointing new bass day...I would appreciate some opinions.

Yep, it's a shame. But - these things happen. The real test is how they're resolved, so we wait and wonder. -

Prepare to be disappointed in your assessment… -
Some people are easily pleased, I guess.

TBH I would have waited for it all to be resolved (or not) before posting about it, as that’s the true test of a business’ mettle, but of course the OP can deal as they see fit. -

It sounds like you could tell us if that’s the case. -

I’ve had a few custom models that have been pristine too, which makes it all the sadder to hear when it goes wrong. I had my latest spec all worked out and ready to pull the trigger, but this has made me reconsider. -
I've been giving this some thought, and I'm now not sure I'd go if they come to the UK... mainly 'cos I doubt I could justify the cost.

Looks like MIM parts.. but on a US bass..?

Every now now and then the QC with this particular builder seems to miss the mark... it's a shame, 'cos they make some beautiful instruments. -
They don’t own their catalogue. How the SW mix of Kings is marketed isn’t really their decision.
