Purchased a Wizard trad P-Bass pickup from Nick and I'm very happy with our transaction. I wouldn't hesitate to do business again. Many thanks.

Ah, I know it. In fact I'm a good friend of the manager Neil. He told me yesterday he'd been getting in a few bands recently, yours must be one of them. PM'ed.

I'm not far from you and I was just wondering where you found your new and old rehearsal rooms?

I'm acutely aware that I've joined my first ever band this year at the ripening age of 37, about 20 years too late. The only solace I can take is that I'm not trying to sell boyband pop music to children or recapture my misspent yoof playing rock n roll. Our lead singer might be though... I stand in the shadows near the back rolling my eyes at the drummer or stroking my beard wistfully.

The same Jazz for sale, in Liverpool and London?
Shambo replied to gjones's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I saw this when it was first listed and thought it one of the vaguest ads I've seen in a while and undeserving of a buyer. The fact they've also posted somebody elses picture is a really poor show. It's relisted with a collect in person option so he's obviously got some sort of bass to sell, but what you'd find when you got there is anybodys guess. -
What is the best way to turn someone down? (in a band setting)
Shambo replied to jackers's topic in General Discussion
Try a Jedi mind trick. "This isn't the band you're looking for..." -
Bought a blue Squier CV P Bass off soloshchenko last night. Instrument was exactly as described, communication was faultless and I'd be happy to deal with him again anytime. Hope your foot mends soon.

Just a little update. The band is still going and would seem to be gaining in strength. The name of the band was the one he'd originally thought of, the excuse was that he was put under pressure for a name when being booked for the gig he didn't ask me about. This only came to light whilst we were being interviewed on air before a live performance for a local radio station, and whilst I did consider calling him out on air, I grimaced and took one for the team. The drummer likes it so that's two to one, and I didn't want to flounce off because of a rubbish name, (I'm not telling you the name but rest assured it's the kind of soppy indie nonsense phrase that makes 'Maroon 5' sound like 'Anal C#nt'). Our most recent gig was in a central Liverpool venue last Saturday and despite not having adequate monitoring I enjoyed it more than any other so far, and so did the drummer who was grinning like a cheshire cat. It was apparently not fun for the singer though, something I didn't notice whilst we were playing as everytime I looked at him he was pulling classic rock and roll poses. The very moment the last song finished he stormed off stage without acknowledging the audience or their applause. When I eventually caught up with him I was surprised to see him incandescent with rage, apparently the sound engineer was a useless c#nt because he could have achieved a better mix himself in 5 minutes. Now this is a subject quite close to me. I spent quite a few years as a freelance sound engineer and I've borne the brunt of this sort of behaviour before, and he knows it. I told him he didn't know what the audience was hearing because he was the wrong side of the P.A. and that the applause given didn't suggest they weren't enjoying themselves. Then it was the fact that the sound guy kept coming from behind his desk to the front of the P.A. for a listen before going back for a tweak. He thought that was because he was f#cking it up, and this was putting him off his performance. I reminded him that the alternative to that would be a sound guy sat behind his desk texting his mates and not giving a sh*t. I could feel a stand up row brewing so I left him to the comiserations of his girlfriend whilst me and the drummer hit the bar for a bemused apres gig pint. When he'd calmed down the rest of the evening involved people taking the piss out of him for his Mariah Carey, diva style foot stamping which, in fairness, he took in good spirit, (he laughed when he could have scweamed and scweamed, etc...). I had a word with the sound guy at the end of the evening and he was unhappy that our singer was unhappy and had wanted to do his best for us. I reassured him he wasn't the problem and that our singer was just being a bit of a dickhead. Anyways, we've done about half a dozen gigs and new songs are still coming easily. A recording session beckons after which we've agreed that the original set will be put aside to concentrate on new music. There's also talk of a little showcase trip to 'that London' for a promoter friend, (which I've agreed to so long as it's not some pay to play scam), so I'm sure there's more laughs ahead. ....oh and if a kindly mod reads this, could you move it to off topic ppplease?
I thought the Wizards were standard single coils...
They are. It's only the series mod that stops the hum. It doesn't sound like a P bass to my ears like the promo bumpf suggests, but does create a very usable sound of its own, and if you don't like that then you can go back to a traditional j pup configuration at the flick of a switch.

Have a look at this. http://www.lordgoogle.com/bass/s1_mod/

I use Wizard 84's in my S1 Jazz because the stock american pups were a bit polite. I probably would have been happy with 64's or 74's. So thats overwound 84 pups + series switch = hum free growl or thump a plenty. Simple to use and impolite. If I ever get a Jazz bass without it, I will be making a series/parallel switch modification.

Best cheap, small device for recording rehearsals - recommendations?
Shambo replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use a H1 to good effect. Just remember to turn off the auto level and set the recording level manually. -
If you're a builder, do you want to go to work in a clapped out transit van or a plush mercedes van? I have no idea what I'm talking about.

have you ever taken your bass playing from a singer..
Shambo replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
If I have to create a new bass line, I have been known to record myself humming, singing and yelping loose nonsensical phrases over a demo, to listen back to later. Then I can choose the bits of it that seems to work well, and expand it over the full song. -
I always know what I'm looking for and never look for an opinion on what product I should or shouldn't buy. I visit a shop to either price, try or buy. That goes for all things, not just music shops. I don't like to be approached by the shopkeep and asked questions, I'll ask the questions when I need to know something.

I know it's not nice to chuckle at people who don't know what they're talking about but here it is.... Expensive to repair?

Well... just over £2K with 6 hours to go. Somebody wants it bad.
That's so you plug it in the right way round. Wire is directional don't you know. Your tone can get really flustered if you force it to go upstream and it can disturb its mating cycle.
Haha! Just finished at 36 GBP, a bargain compared to a new one and I'm sure it'll make a world of difference to the lucky punters who'll appreciate it's superior erm.... something or other. Hell, if the new owner thinks it's gonna make a difference then who's to say it won't. Good luck to 'em. Meself... I'm still non the wiser.

'The Meters', first album by The Meters, or 'The Great Ray Charles' by the erm... great, erm.. Ray Charles.
Don't forget to plug your amps in with these :-) Kettle Lead
Either that kettle lead is 2m(iles) long, made from platinum and saffron, hand woven by Jesus H Christ, or they mistakenly put a comma where they meant to put a decimal point.

The cheapest Streamer Stage II I've ever seen!
Shambo replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I had the same issue with a Roland practice amp. I left negative feedback when the seller refused the winning bid, and they simply abandoned their profile. -
You should pick a model, buy loads of them cheap, then come back to the forum and start bigging them up over the next decade.
