For your consideration is a Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision. This is one of the earlier models and is I believe the surf-tastic 'sonic blue' colour. Chances are, (you're on a bass guitar forum after all), you know exactly what this instrument is all about. I've had no qualms about being seen in public with it, a beginners/improver/backup bass thats eminently gig-able, but only managed a couple of rehearsals in my company. A familiar story, I bought it as a backup for some of the rough arsed gigs when I was too nervous to take my american jazz. Also I'd never owned a P-bass and it was an itch I needed to scratch. Not long after buying it the band went tits up, and it's spent most of the year sulking under the bed in my spare room, whilst my posher bass get lavished with attention. It was bought from Soloshchenko of this parish almost a year ago, and the only difference in it's condition now is that I've sheilded the cavity with copper tape. Stock condition apart from Schaller strap locks and a missing tugbar, it comes with a Fender strap. I don't have any scales but it's quite a bit lighter than my american standard Fender. It's currently wearing Fender flatwounds and has been set up by KGB guitars of Birkenhead. I'd like £200 collected from the Merseyside area. No offers please. Next day postage is £20. No trades please [s]unless you have an Electro-Voice RE20 or Heil PR40 microphone in good working order. That's what this sale is going towards funding.[/s] I don't have any photographs but here's a link to the original advert in the hope Soloshchenko doesn't mind. Gotta see the empires tallest building, where the planes shot that big monkey, and they killed him. City Lights by the Flamin Groovies.

I found mid 90's mex fender pups loud but a little thin and wasn't impressed. I found mid 00's US fender pups not as loud but had much more definition in the mids and a certan top end sparkle. That was too polite for me so I bought Wizard 84's which are overwound, they lost most of the top end sparkle and replaced it with a deeper voice. I'm happy where I am now but that's not to say I've bought my last ever pair of jazz pickups. My advice would be to try any pups take your fancy, maybe second hand from this site, but keep the originals so you can return the guitar to stock if you want to move it on.
A friend of mine has an H1, its good, but it doesnt allow you to turn the gain down enough for loud rehearsals in small rooms.
I use a H1 and bang for buck it's been one of my best ever buys. I've never gotten to the loudness levels in enclosed space to consider the problem above... and the thing being so cheap I never imagined they'd bother with a firmware fix, otherwise people wouldn't upgrade to their higher spec models. One thing I realised too late is to turn the auto level off and set the gain yourself. Otherwise, you play quiet passage in a song and the gain goes up arbitrarily after a couple of seconds, then move to a louder passage in a song and the gain's knocked down in a similar fashion, leaving you with hours of rehearsals practically unlistenable with clumsy fluctuations in volume.

I'm sure it'll all be worth it in the end. Great thread BTW and best of British.

Like the majestic brown bear at the eddy watching the salmon, the modern music comsumer is overtaken with a feeding frenzy on ickle MP3's jumping upstream to spawn. It doesn't take what it needs, it is driven into a bloodlust to attack all it sees and kill hundreds of fish whilst actually only consuming a few fish... that is to say it's not true that people will only download what they really want or need. If left unchecked, consumers will amass gig upon gig of data that they'll never use or appreciate. Like the salmon, the musician won't stop swimming against the stream when the time is right, driven by a primordal desire to procreate. This thoroughly modern problem can only be solved by changing how music is consumed. As somebody mentioned earlier the genie isn't about to go back in the bottle. Platforms such as spotify, whilst not perfect, seem like the only way forward at the moment, with an option to pay for a physical copy as an afterthought. Casual consumers paying for their product through advertising, and larger consumers paying a small premium. This facilitates a shift weighted more in favour of mechanical copywrite and less to publishing rights if the professional musician is to remain solvent. It's often said music is in a constant state of flux but this situation arose because of the business side of the music industry dragging it's heels over the information age.

Looking for song suggestions - funky, groove based rock

The Cake version of 'I Will Survive' might suit your M.O. I've never found a male singer who can get over the baggage that comes with it though. Shame really. -
Who made you decide "I'm going to play bass!"

The bass player who was backing BB King on an old cassette I used to listen to on the way to school. Found out later it was Willie Dixon. -
I've always referred to this website in real life as a "geeky bass guitar forum". It's nothing personal you understand, it does get quite geeky round here. No one I can recall has ever stifled a snigger at it's mention, though sometimes I overhear the peels of laughter when I've left the room.

That Purple Chili cab you're selling is an amazing bargain. As already mentioned, it must be the lack of a courier option that's stopping it being sold.
Hi Jackjazz. When removing pickups, you need to unsolder the wires from the volume and tone pots so as to keep them attatched to the pickups. The copper wire which is wound around the pickups is extremely fine and very difficult to successfully attatch to the wires for the controls. You may have inadvertently ruined your pickups.
I've unsoldered and resoldered, with reckless abandon, the wires from the pickups over the years without any adverse effects. I've never heard that before, but it makes sense I suppose. I'm tempted to buy but I don't have a need for them ATM. Good luck with the sale.

Bought a microphone from Pete, as described and with no hassles. I'd be glad to deal with him again anytime. Thanks mate.

back from the dead.... I searched katana and this came up. Rather than make a new thread, I thought I'd add it here, just because they don't come up very often. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Katana-Bass-precision-p-jazz-rare-Japan-made-Squier-collectable-vintage-/150807953962?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item231cdac22a

Interesting that you thought the Fender flats were dodgy. I've got a set with an weird harmonic on the A string. I thought the bridge might be to blame but now I'm changing my diagnosis.

'Jade Pearl Metallic'? = grey To go with 'Charcoal Frost Metallic' = a different shade of grey. I've got a 'Shoreline Gold' = beige.

I bought a Led Zeppelin CD off ebay last month that the seller insisted was an original 1970 pressing.

There's nothing pourous about the poly finish on any bass I've ever owned, or the glossy neck, shiney metal and plastic. If residue sits on them, I'll give it a wipe. Do nitro finishes allow smoke through to the wood? Does carbon fibre hold a musty smell when curry is eaten in the same room? I've already said I can understand unfinished wood might retain a smell but personally, I've never even held a bass made of unfinished wood, and if I did I'd be more bothered about the damp sweat and dirt build up in the grain.
