Fender

Putting aside the emotive issue of where the instrument was built and variations in QC, Fender is the worlds most famous marque in guitar and bass manifacturing so they can charge a premium for their instruments safe in the knowledge that demand for their product will always remain relatively stable. This same demand is also reflected in the resale value of second hand instruments as buyers know that their purchase isn't about to significantly drop in value should they wish to move the instrument on, regardless of the specific instruments quality.
My 1975 (not RI)
I absolutely love that. Here's my 2006/7 MIA in shoreline gold.
3. My money's on the Demeter Compulator for its ease of use versus quality of results. Only drawback being it picks up interference from my cheap power supply, (including a tuner, that's my only 2 pedals and I don't want to spend a fortune on a posh power brick thing), so I have to run it from a 9v battery.
4. Welcome fellow wirralalien.
5. Black on black and rosewood is very aggressive looking... me likey.
6. Hello and welcome. Stay away from the for sale section if you don't want to upset the missus.
7. Oooo I've just bought a lottery ticket or failing that I could sell a kidney.
8. Don't panic and remember to enjoy yourself.
9. For a few weeks and only out of necessity, I had a mid 70's neck pup and the modern stock bridge pup in my 06/07 american standard jazz. They sounded bloody awful together.... never expected it to work and it didn't. The older pup overwhelmed the newer one being much louder and darker. The newer pup had more high end sparkle giving it a bigger overall tone, but alot less grunt. My jazz now wears wizard 84's which I think sound closer to the older pups than the new.
10. If you're playing the bass, whose looking at you anyway? It's like a state of invisibility. I reckon I can appreciate a good looking bass when I see one but looks aren't everything. If it feels right and sounds right then carry on.
11. WOW!
12. Bump for a classy looking ray.
13. Wait 'till you're playing a gig with a sound engineer... and you can vent at them instead.
14. Alot of people wax lyrical about Thomastik-Infeld Jazz flats because they feel pliant, but I prefer the extra tension of La Bella Deep Talkin 54's. There is no best make of strings, just the ones you're happiest with.
15. What are you more interested in? The tatty case or the bass in it? I'd let it go. Some people are better at wrapping parcels than others.
16. mornin' and welcome.
17. Wasn't Guy Pratt seen around these parts not so long ago?
18. Some attic fayre here, and surely too 80's looking for most, but I think it's so garish I'm quite drawn to it. Worth a punt? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
19. ah here it is... I should have known this one wouldn't slip by unnoticed.
20. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-BAS...=item3f06e683b4 There's something about this bass that seems too good to be true. It looks to be in far too nice a condition to be so old, so unless it's been hidden in someones uncles loft for the last 40 years... well... I'd like you to take a look at it for me and tell me what you think.
21. Some very sensible comments have made this thread restore a little of my faith in musiciankind. I did a few years stint as live engineer, starting out with a couple of years in the studio, then spending alot of time shadowing accomplished live engineers for free whilst being an extra roadie, mic placement tweaker and general cable rat. Worked my way up through theatre work to meeting more and more arsey rock and roll gits who's MO seemed to be at odds with anything and everything I needed to do. Unsurprisingly these gigs more often seemed to be the ones where I was working under the most pressure (time/equipment/quality of gear) and wondering what, if at all, I was going to get paid. To be treated as some sort of incompetent, anti-musician by someone who doesn't understand what they're asking for, was one of the reasons I walked away from the profession, (but mainly the stress of its feast/famine financial situation). The bigger shows with more professional musicians understood that their responsibility was to play their instruments well and the engineers job was to make all the instruments sit together and sound right for the PA for the room. If you don't have faith in your soundguy then you need to take steps to ensure that, the next time you play, that you do it with someone you can trust. That doesn't involve being aggressive or throwing a wobbly at your next engineer becaused you think they should be going about their business the way you think they should. You won't be doing yourself any favours. /rant
22.
Purple Chili PCB112NT could be an option. I got one and lime it very much. Light and loud
In the spirit that people just tend to recommend what they use, if you get the chance, I'd suggest you try the Purple Chili 12's aswell. Don't know how flat they are, but they're certainly light, loud and well made.
23. Hello fellow merseysider.
