I've got 84's in my S1 jazz and I think they tread a fine line. The stock american pups they replaced were alot quieter but there was more depth to the tone in that the highs were higher and they sounded more expansive, (only to my mind obviously). The 84's sound louder, fatter and bassier but lacked a little overall tone in comparison. Again though I must stress, it's a fine line because the 84's still sound good and seem to have found a good compromise between darkness (bass), whilst the higher notes growl more than they would ring out compared to the stock pups. Very suitable I would have thought for rock music, (which I don't really play... go figure). Playing at volume during a practice the other day I remember thinking, "Christ,my bass sounds thunderous today!", but not in a bad way.

The chromatic mode on the polytune has impressed me in that review.. more so that the pitchblack did, which was the one I was considering buying. If I already owned the bitchblack though I wouldn't be too bothered about buying a different tuner, it still looks very good.

Thanks guys. I should probably just start saving for another bass.

Just throwing this out there, my bass is in no imminent danger. I'm looking at my american jazz circa 2006/7 with a maple board and thinking it would look lovely with a natural finish, (it's shoreline gold ATM). I'm just wondering, if I were to get it stripped and given a finish like the AV '75 reissue body, what would I find underneath the paint? A nice one piece of alder, or several unsightly pieces stuck together? Also, I've got no intention of DIY, would anybody have a rough idea about how much something like that would cost?

I just deleted a long winding post about why you should, or not, provide the backline to a bunch of strangers to apease a promoter. It's a grey area and there's no right or wrong way to go about this. You do seem bullied by the whole situation and I think you've got the fear. Personally, if I was expected, nay demanded, to provide the backline for a bunch of strangers, then I'd knock back the whole gig on a matter of principal and to balls to the consequences. Perhaps you'd do a better job organising your own promotion? Abrupt as it does sound, OldGit has pretty much nailed the 'pay to play' situation IMV.

...and he's selling a lovely black/maple precision for those that way inclined.

Poll: Which Fender Jazz would you buy & why?
Shambo replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in Bass Guitars
I've got an american standard which I only see as a good quality tool but, if money's no object, I'd like something with a bit of history...early 70's, lightweight & resonant with rosewood, blocks and binding. -
This one looks as though it's barely been out of it's case... ever. Where's the scratches? The tarnished metal? My fave colour with the rosewood, blocks and bindings, I feel like a magpie drawn to it's shineyness. I scored a second hand Demeter Compulator pedal from this very website and use it either very, very sparingly so you can hardly notice, just to even out my playing.... or full on, which completely crushes the sound and produces it's own strange swirling distorted effect, which I find very pleasing.

I'm very happy with my two PCB12's, even though I doubt I'll need to use more than one anytime soon. When I got a hint Bass Culture might be after something else, I had to make a pre-emptive swoop. Not the most compact of 12" cabs but they're light, have a clear voice and move the air with ease. Swap that F1 head for a LMK2 and we've got the same rig patch. Oh and the new Roqsolid covers fit perfectly... I gave them the dimensions.

I've always liked the look of the jap jag but not been so keen on the jazz pup configuration...I've already got a jazz bass for that. With the P/J pups though, I'm interested.

Bought a Purple Chili cab of Mark today, which he kindly delivered, and bought his RH450 with him for me to mess about with. A genuinely nice chap who I'd be happy to deal with anytime.

Speaking of big Fender small Squier decals, I was wondering what the Jap afficionado's make of this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry851663

What would be a more realistic price for this bass then? I haven't got a scooby doo how much JV basses are worth but I'm not so sure this seller doesn't have an inkling, hence the strong starting bid. Perhaps they're being a bit coy. There's not exactly a lack of information about them on the interwebs. Funny that somebody saw fit to remove the squier logo at some point, presumably they thought it made the bass look cheap, and now because the logo is missing it devalues the instrument. I'm interested in obtaining a beaten Jap Precision at some point but I won't be bidding for this one. For me, it just needs to be a nice playing example and cheap enough to use in rowdy pubs. An opportunity has just presented itself to buy a matching cab for my rig next week and left me shy of the asking price anyways.

What first caught my eye with this one was it's listed as a Precision Standard. Ive always assumed this to refer to the Mexican basses and the £500 start price was way too steep. Upon reading further, it seems this to have a JV serial number. A quick google later at http://www.21frets.com/ and there's mention that the first run of JV's had the Fender logo most prominent with a little Squier logo near the tip of the headstock like so... http://www.flickr.com/photos/woodypix/92135100/ The advert shows the headstock with a small sanded area near the tip. My question is simple. Is this one of the first JV Precisions that was shipped to the UK? Advertising Ebay Auctions that aren't Buy It Now
Shambo replied to Delberthot's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I don't know what you're preferences are but I don't wear knickers thank you very much.
I don't doubt that for a second. I do think this is a fuss about nothing. Whats the point in an Ebay Links subforum without links to live auctions? I thought the outcome of the last thread we had on this matter was that you can't expect people not to post links on items other members might be bidding on, and that from thereon in, only logged in BC members would be allowed to see this subform. -
Advertising Ebay Auctions that aren't Buy It Now
Shambo replied to Delberthot's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If somebody posts about a bass I'm bidding for on Ebay, (which they have), I have to congratulate them on their good taste in instruments, not get my knickers in a twist. -
You don't see these very often, (well I don't anyway). I've no idea what the market value is for this, so it's going on my watch list with the chance of a cheeky bid if the price is right. 'Normal' Rehearsal schedules - EDIT: Oh what an update! Enjoy!
Shambo replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
I almost started to bite again on the Ginger Pit Forum, almost. Especially when he somehow decided I was crap despite the fact he was very impressed with me when I played with them. I wont bother though. I have no doubts about my skills, I think they just want someone to be there to play the basics and be part of their clan. EDIT: Who has signed up as Shambo ?
Yeah, that was me. Just endulging in some gentle, light hearted banter (or call it trolling if you like, I'm not ashamed, it's one of the internets most simple pleasures ). As I've mentioned before, most of the musicians I've met I've never liked and this blokes show of classic muso arrogance was just too good to let go without comment. I'll give him one thing though, at least he's optimistic. He thinks his 'controversial' recruitment drive's been a great success and there's gonna be more people at their next gig. -
Nothing insulting, just short and to the point. Here's the link to the listing, in case he decided to list it again. I'd suggest giving it a wide berth. Ebay finally got in touch to tell me they had 'taken action' and asked me to leave the seller 'appropriate feedback'. Which I have.
-
Another vote for black. I've already got a shoreline gold jazz but I want to buy one of these just so I can put a b/w/b scratchplate on it.
-
Three days and no response from ebay. What a surprise.
Raise a dispute through eBay before leaving negative feedback, it could lead to a ban or prevent him doing further relisting of the item. Particularly as it's re-listed item that might not of sold for the very same reason the first time around - make this clear to eBay.

I was bidding on this originally and then noticed it was re-listed so avoided it. I am in agreement with Derren and would message him and explain the situation again and the consequences to him if he does not sell it to you and then report him to ebay under a dispute if you get no joy. I would not bother with the feedback until the situation is resolved one way or the other.
I agree. I'm resisting the urge to just leave negative feedback. I'm also resisting the urge to contact him and explain my unhappiness in case he just decides to cancel the transaction, I want ebay to look at the live listing because I doubt they'd be arsed dealing with a cancelled one.
-
I've just reported the item to ebay, telling them the seller refuses to complete the transaction and has asked for more money. I don't think just leaving negative feedback will have the desired effect. He has zero feedback ATM and I suspect I'm dealing with a child, (his user name is m***o95 and I think the 95 might refer to the year he was born).
