1.
Not sure you can win this one mate
This, really. Even with basic protection (and I've done gigs on screwed up toilet tissue! ), if your ears are smarting the next day then it's too loud. Some people seem to reckon it's a good part of rock and roll. . no, it frigging isn't!
2. Wilkinson.. good point! I have one of those also. I don't know if it is still a current model, but they crop up on Ebay occasionally
3.
The Schaller 2000 might get you a narrower string spacing than the 3D but IME it's a complete bastard to get set up. I'd think twice about ever owning another bass which had one fitted.
Not actually that hard; I use a drill bit between the saddles for consistent spacing. A feeler gauge would be just as good. I have a couple of 4ers and a 5er with the 2000. I think it's one of those parts where if you really want what it gives you, you'll work it out. :-)
4.
Finally! Thanks so much! ...Not sure if I can drill with the appropriate accuracy using just a hand drill...
So not only do you have Parts Acquisition Syndrome, but now you've become infected with Tool Acquisition Syndrome! Welcome to the pack. https://www.bosch-do-it.com/gb/en/diy/ergo-home.jsp
5. Schaller 2000 is even better than the 3D. I have this on a couple of basses. You can get the spacing down to just over 15mm, and the ballend moves with the saddle so no sideways pulling. 5 screw fitting.
6. I drove a wagon for a ducting company. . They called it 'tape'. :-D
7. Tape as a temporary fix, and get on to Yamaha for a replacement cover.
8. Elixir do stainless steels nowadays as well as nickels. I have a set in the cupboard just waiting until the nickels go downwards enough to justify changing!
9. Bought a well-used pedal from Tuco.. advertised as such. The 'faults' were as described and reworkable as expected with a bit of tweaking and improvising, so an excellent deal all round. Good chap to deal with.
10.
If they do ask, tell them you took it there with you to play a gig with friends during your stay Go on, live a little
I really wouldn't say that; if the US guys think you've been working illegally they'll probably kick you out even though you're leaving, and you'll not be welcome to return!
11. GK CX210 or 210MBE are strong contenders.
12. Customs.. be prepared to pay VAT and duty - if you get let through you've won! If you post it you'll probably get charged on arrival by the carriers, quite possibly plus a handling charge. Mind you, who do you trust more, airline baggage handlers or carrier companies? Pack it for Armageddon either way, as you're most unlikely to get a bass in the cabin nowadays.
13.
Well to be fair we haven't increased prices over the past two years. Plus we are running a cash back promo on our most popular lines at the moment
My first few years in the shop, exchange rates just gently slid in our favour which nicely absorbed any increases in material and factory costs. I knew the price of pretty much every item in the place, as prices stayed the same for about 7 years until the 2008 crash.
14.
Not sure... We've just had to issue a 6% increase on USA and German products and thats now fixed for a year
That's brave; most of our suppliers are 'monitoring the situation'. IMHO, that's the biggest problem for the next couple of years at least: there's so much opportunity for insecurity hence instability that many are just sitting on their hands.
15. Some wedding photographers live in a big house, while some creative artists starve in a garret. I used to hate playing The Wild Rover, then I looked up one night from my pit of misery and the whole room was having such fun I just went with it. Take the gig, and either extract what fun you can from it or think of the money. You can always leave later.
16. Just had an email from D'Addario to expect rises of 7-10 percent (tbc) across all their brands, probably 1st September. This is by no means the first such advice we've received.
17.
Unfortunately it will only work out cheaper if all the materials and components are also UK produced. Anything that has to be imported will bump up the price.
Not cheaper, rather not so much more expensive.
18. Sounds like you need a preamp-crossover-stereo power amp setup. Either that or just have two amps, one feeding each cab.
19. My gut feeling is that it's probably not worth fixing unless it was a more up the range model. Maybe you have a friend who is into such things, which would possibly keep the cost down..
20. I don't know the Rumble, but quite alot of modern builds are modular and IC based, so only someone with access to the relevant modules (i.e. the officially approved repairers) can do much. Have you tried a local amp repair type?
21.
Mrs Bert always wanted to play bagpipes so no expense spared, I bought her a set for Christmas one year, they cost about £60. Totally useless. Mrs Bert thought it was her not being able to get much of a sound out of them but it turns out that the cheap bagpipes are rubbish and no one can play them. You have to spend a lot of cash to get bagpipes that can actually be played. The cheap ones look good hanging on the wall as an ornament though.
This, unfortunately. Another possible type to consider is the Irish, Uilleann pipes. Play in D. Sorted! There's also an excellent teacher of such things just near Halifax. The theatre and comedy potential of such things is immense, as bits sometimes drop off mid-tune! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAPXTVotR4w
22. If the jack socket was wired back to front you should still get a note, just extra noisy. The pics aren't clear enough to be certain what's going on, but you can eliminate the pots by unsoldering the pickup and holding the wires onto one plug of a guitar cable. If that works, chuck the pots and put fresh ones in. If the pickup is problematic, get a used decent pickup in the Marketplace and start over.
23. I think 2 or 3 doors will have a folding passenger seat, 4 or 5 doors not. Or did you mean rear seats?
24.
Not only that , but I put this info on the XKEC forum, and it appears that one or two of us have done this.
Love that bit!
25. Yup, as suggested above the end result is down to personal taste. Works a treat for me, among my various cab combinations. As long as half the amp power - 250W - isn't overpowering either cab you're ok on a technical level. Looking at your OP I'd give it a try. Something else to be aware of, especially if using different brands of cab, is phase.. if you start with your 212 sounding great, then adding the 112 makes your sound seem somewhat lacking, the cabs could well be 'out of phase' i.e. speakers travelling in opposite directions. Easy to remedy just by reversing the polarity of one of the cables.
