Anyone ever tried brake cleaner spray to clean strings ? It's a powerful de-greaser, and leaves no residue. Any ideas as to why it may not be the brightest idea I've had today ?
That first response, in a nutshell! If you really want to deep-clean your strings, boil in clean water for 10 minutes or so. You'll see the muck floating out. Dry the strings - hang them in a warm place overnight - before refitting. While they're off you can oil the fingerboard and polish the frets for good measure.

The description sounds like it's a series -parallel switch rather than any kind of preamp. A useful mod.. you can do it yourself using a push-pull pot, as long as you're happy to have a go at soldering. Plenty of wiring diagrams on the Web. Otherwise pay this chap for the full kit. If you are up for the experiment, it's an easy wiring job to put the pups in series to see if you like the sound.

Any Hiscox I've seen over any SKB I've seen.

Just bought a strap from Morsefull.. Great comms, and good chap to deal with. Swift delivery. :-)

Just bought an fx pedal from Dunc; picked it up on the way to a gig - a pity I couldn't have spent a few more minutes chatting. Bloomin' Bank Holiday traffic! Always a pleasure (so far,at least!) to meet a feelow Basschatter in real life. Easy transaction, too.

I have two Overwaters, which are both fantastic. Also they're radically different from each other. Which is the 'best', even from those two? Depends on the context, really. . one fits into a rock band, while the other goes beautifully with acoustic vibe.

I'm on double bass with this chap: http://www.stevetilston.com/ at this do: http://www.garstangunplugged.com/ on Thursday 24th March. Garstang, just north of Preston.. I've never actually so much as stopped for a cuppa there before, so quite looking forward to it. Steve is, simply put, brilliant! I've been aware of him as 'one of those guitarists' since student days, but obviously when you have the gig you listen differently. What a songsmith! Excellent voice, to boot. If that wasn't enough, Keith Warmington is no slouch on the harmonica front!

Yet another thing that's been in The Box for an age, so someone else may as well have the use of them. Somehow mislaid the screws along the way, but these were NOS when I got them so never fitted. Comes with ferrules. Currently set up 2+2, these tuners are easily reversed so easily switched to 3+1 or 4 in line. Still with box, although tatty!

Bought ages ago on t'Bay, used it a little bit, but then got a more even-sounding pickup in my acoustic. Neat bit of kit, with the EQ Balance usable as a tone altering pedal, and the High Compression separately switchable within the overall setting. Works on 2xPP3, or 18V DC power supplies are available easily and cheaply enough. Good condition, in box with instructions.

Hi all, this was on my Overwater J5 fretless when I bought it second hand, and I wanted a narrower spacing so swapped the bridge out. Stunning bass, and it'll be with me for as long as practicable, so the original bridge is up for grabs. Overwater list is as a Hipshot Style B, although it isn't stamped. Never bought a Hipshot separately, so dunno if they do that. AFAIK Overwater don't use generic bridges on their full-spec basses, and this one is aluminium judging by it's 112g as opposed to 190g in a generic 5-string bridge I have sitting in The Box. Chrome finish, 19mm spacing (0.750" as they say in USA), comes with screws. Great condition. £44 posted

I got a BC212 by T.C.Electronic a wee while back, and almost immediately found its volume reponse to be different to my existing EA cabs. Surprise, surprise! The cab sounded great, just not matched with the EA(!) Swapped out the chassis speakers, which are 'Eminence custom drivers', for standard USA Eminence. The cab now worked far better for me, and these PRC Eminence speakers have been sitting in the Eminence boxes ever since, just waiting for me to get round to selling them! Not gigged, and only even played for long enough to decide to change them. They supposedly make 8 Ohms as a pair, so 16 Ohms each, although the fact that TC say you can use 3 of their cabs on their 4 Ohm heads makes me slightly suspicious of that. Power handling as a pair 250W. Can be collected/meet up around Bradford area, otherwise can send with overnight carriers.
Love it The lad can play AND entertain, well done him. Mind, the vocalist
I was just thinking that.. traditionally the vox is the front and nutty 'hey, look at me go!' guy, and the bassist stands in the shadows.

Have a look at Juan Alderete's page http://www.pedalsandeffects.com/ Beside being an awesome bass player, he's a total pedal nut! You can lose yourself in that site..
Seems a bit cheeky to me seeing as they're a cover band as well.
This. -
The above, also 0000 grade wire wool - great for polishing up fretless boards, too!

Crumbs! Sounds like a sad state of affairs, no matter exactly what happened.

D'Addario will do singles; you just need to find a shop who will order them for you.

Useful video. . There is no definite right or wrong, although some will tell you there is! My own limited experience is that French allows a bit more light finesse with the flexibility of the fingers, where the German allows a bit more power due to the angle of grip.
