1. Surgical spirit here.. as mentioned above, keep it off the bass finish. Don't smoke! After a full clean, followed by violin polish on the body and neck, the house smells amAZing!
2. Have a look at this recent thread.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/294041-wiring-a-jazz-bass-in-series/page__p__3161464__hl__jazz%20series__fromsearch__1#entry3161464 Gives the simple version for the experiment. If you like it, there's penty more info on wiring in a push-pull switch, but worry about that later!
3.
I'd try wiring what you've already got in series first. It's free, reversible and it might be enough.
First choice here, too.
4.
Unfortunately I'm not so good at spotting arse holes and have been fooled more than once. Blue
I think we've all been there at some time! Older [s]and wiser.[/s] Hope you get the drummer woes sorted.
5. Not your average one-man carry, but scores plenty of practicality points especially in a touring situation.
6. Sounds like you're already a fan of Seymour Duncan, excellent pickups! I put their P-Rails in the neck on my USA PRS, and it's an amazingly versatile pickup.. more so than I am a guitarist! SD's website has a really handy tone comparison chart and audio clips for each pickup, which may prove useful in decision-making. This kind of thing: http://www.seymourduncan.com/comparison-audio
7.
Any input welcome :-)
i see what you did there.. Yup, same to same. I do the 2s as well, call it futureproofing (GK bi-amp user).
8.
It's easy, just try playing one! bass back on the hook, wallet back in the pocket* * similar methods work with Rickenbackers
Either the above or try another bass set to neck pickup, which will give quite a different response to a MM.
9. And don't forget that all that Chinese etc gear is paid for in US Dollars, so is subject to the same vagaries of exchange rate shenanigans as US or European stuff, be it basses, smartphones or tvs.
10.
Tanglewood is about as big as they get here.
Hahaha ha! As importers and clever marketing goes, yes!
11. I use a Realist, which is very natural sounding, both plucked and bowed. Love it!
12.
I have the same issue sometimes Lew. Reads my E as B. And no it isn't that far out of tune It is something nearby making it wonky. Go somewhere quiet and it'll work fine every time. Don't know why it's only the E!
You often get that E to B thing, as the B is the next strongest harmonic on the E string. Even worse with fresh strings with all their harmonic richness! Easy to get round, simply play the 12th fret harmonic - E - which is at 1/2 the string length and cuts out all the 'odd' divisions i.e. 1/3 (, 1/5 (G#) etc.
13. After shemeckfrac's question re shortness behind the bridge, I got round to measuring them; bizarrely the A is the shortest at just over 150 cm, the rest being around the 160cm mark.
14. Also generally I'd aim to have your fingertips on the French bow, rather than the half-grip pictured. More flexibility. I was told in early days to put the bow on a flat surface, relax my hand and pick up the bow. The hold kinda dictates itself. The more finger joints you have free before the bow, the more flexibility hence the more fine control. However, looking around images of the same, most people seem to do the half-grip, which is definitely easier. I actually went to the dark side and now use a German grip bow, with which you get more power but far less flexibility. Seems to work for Gary Karr! ;-)
15. Sold Tom a strap recently; all went smoothly with good communication and prompt payment, many thanks!
16. Paul bought a strap from me recently, and all went swimmingly. Good easy communication and prompt payment, many thanks! :-)
17. Ian bought a strap from me recently; communication was easy, and all went smoothly. Cheers for a pleasant transaction!
18. You're welcome to a go on mine with Honey Jazz on if you fancy, and I'm sure Keith will say the same. P'raps have a get together sometime.
