  1. curt smith is bass player for tff....how can this possibly be a surprise?
  2. just went through this thread...everything sort of made sense except for mirror in the bathroom...somebody have a word.
  3. i am a great who fan but somehow i feel a bit let down over this... the thing is i absolutely love johns playing on the real me, it's probably my favourite bass part of all time however a lot of it is tied up in the phrasing and note choice which i always assumed came from john ...now i realise that this was really pete ...the same with the drumming, the aspects of keith's drumming that i thought brought something to the table is pete again ...somehow i am a little disappointed to find that the who is in fact mostly pete and the other three are in many ways just hired hands to get the job done. It's ironic when one of the threads of thought behind quadrophenia was that the who was comprised of four people hence the "quad" part ....am i now to assume that the four personalities of the who just like the protagonist in the film really inside his head? ...
  4. thanks ..yes, any info would be most welcomed.
  5. i always thought john had more of a hand in the writing of the who bass lines but listening to this would suggest otherwise, did john have any input on these townsend demos?? also the drums..is pete that good a drummer as well, keith seems to play just like him? i would have expected the demos to be a bit more basic than this waiting for john and keith to do their thing on the real album.
  6. i used to go to some place in romford during the 80s ...trace elliot gear and status basses all in one shop if my memory serves me right...then there was alan gordon's in walthamstow ..holiday and freedman's in leytonstone...wapping bass center not so much as i never could work out where it was.
  7. not forgetting the drummer neil conti who was so much in the pocket on the sprout stuff..
  8. a hard one but if pressed mid 70s to mid 80s...
  9. if its the one im thinking of it looked just like a cassidy but it was a gibson.
  10. i have gone through ebony quite easily with rounds, never tried ebonol but i am a big fan of the phenolic fingerboard, seems hard to even mark much less to wear down and great for fretless.
  11. the most useful subscription model i have seen is one that has the option of being just one month or a permanent rollover.
  12. sounded like typical stuart zender ..
  13. i was wondering about the bass on this one ..i suspected it had a synth involved a bit like imaginations illusion ...but the web says its bailey himself on bass guitar, i love the phat sound of that bass. When i saw them live in the 80s i recall it was a wal.
  14. i think this could be the coolest one...its basically a never changing repeat pattern ...
  15. how about underappreciated?
  16. i think the bass playing on the track flesh and blood is pretty darn in the pocket ... i did have to check the dates to see if karn was ripping him off but quiet life was released the previous year so i guess not.
  17. if you stop playing at high volume and don't deaden the strings then it can start to feedback but its not unusable... but there are a lot of variables going on here with room acoustics etc.
  18. which is exactly what i just said... nobody can choose what they really think and believe and nobody should be punished for thoughts inside their head .. but what people can choose to do is keep it to themselves, alcohol and drugs wont help in that regard.
  19. to be fair he was totally trashed when he let rip so having certain opinions which nobody can help and then allowing them to escape into the public domain is what it is all about ...and as a result he now donates heavily to charities in recompense.
  20. an obsessive compulsion to produce art has been linked to mental disorder, so we shouldn't be at all surprised that many of the great artists have made some questionable choices within their personal lives ...it's an occupational hazard, comes with the territory. Personally i think art is its own entity ...it exists independently of who created it.
  21. maybe when slapping or the high transients from some effects like a distortion pedal? but yeah for me personally i doubt i would miss tweeters although my ebs combo has them loaded.
  22. what's the girth?
