The law of diminishing returns, Tonewood and other folly’s
Musicman666 replied to tegs07's topic in General Discussion
Pino plays exactly what the song requires …that’s why he can charge top rate for what’ can be a fairly straightforward bass line, also pino often offloads his surplus basses via the bass gallery and from what I can tell the quality of those basses is top notch which makes me wonder how good are the ones he hangs onto. -
Just got this pedal, …it seems to be a one trick pony but it’s a good trick, just makes everything sound better. For me it doesn’t readily overdrive rather than just give it a bit of tube breakup which is just perfect. It’s one of those pedals that you need to turn on and off to fully appreciate what it’s doing. I’m pairing it with a cali76 which I think could be the end of my quest for better tone….for the foreseeable future anyway.

Wow.. it’s a shame because the quality bar a few exceptions is second to none, just needs to be a bit more humble when things inevitably do go wrong.

Everything in status is handmade … so if you get the trainees first proper attempt things might go a little pearshaped….just send it out and hope it’s accepted. I have also seen shoddy work come out of wal from their trainee who ironically is now their main man. the net is full of perfectly fine secondhand status necks so your experience is probably a rare exception although I have also witnessed fraying edges on their fret boards… but this is where the first owner (unpaid final inspection checker) needs to send it back but rarely ever does if it’s just cosmetic…. You might even be advised to remove any finger rings upon raising the issue which is basically code for wear and tear which then takes us into the one word against another scenario…lol. I don’t think I can remember a brand new bass that didn’t have one or two minor flaws.. Surface chipped edges status can easily fix.

Annoying right?…. And if you came earlier this is what you could have! Bass direct are just as guilty.

I’m a bit foggy on this, I want to split my signal in the studio to two seperate effects pipelines. I’m looking at what’s out there and there are some quite reasonable options pricewise such as the ehx switchblade + or mxr m196 …but then you can go silly with an active radial. My question is if I go passive am I halving the output and reducing the quality of the signal?, I don’t really want to compromise on output and quality but on the other hand I don’t want to throw good money away on some high end gear that I don’t really need. any suggestions guys thanks.

Weird question. Is there any way to make a headless bass to neck dive?
Musicman666 replied to BELA's topic in Bass Guitars
you need to move the upper strap pin backwards as much as possible to shift the center of gravity in your favour. -
I must be…Just sounds like a regular bass tone ..?
-
Killer tone…This was a Travis Bean aluminum neck…di and double tracked.

Agree about flea on that last one …maybe he was slightly taking the mick? But everything else was not what I would call bad at all, McCartney was sloppy but in a good way, burst out laughing when enwistle got a mention, seriously wtf?

During the 80s in deptford the ozrics regularly played in this dark crypt under a church against a psychedelic light show till four in the morning. They would distribute their home made cassette tape albums, it was a pretty chilled out scene. Webcore was another band that used to play there quite a bit.
-
Low action for me on my fretless is when it can’t be played lying down …only standing up.
-
-
ozrics is what happens when you get brought up on a diet of gong and hawkwind …
-
I have a couple but the reasons or buying them was purely because of the spec, not the player.
-
Used to follow this band a lot in the 80s, remember one particular squat gig getting raided by all these police …the support was zodiac mindwarp…heady daze for sure.

my wal..

I bought my son the maudio keystation (he loves it) , then just get a lite free version of tracktion/waveform or whatever that has built in synths etc . As said before small keys is a mistake to learn on…it will put him off…. ps ..just noticed you got one…good choice!

Can a drum machine replace a drummer ?
Musicman666 replied to martin8708's topic in General Discussion
I’m totally into bass guitars working with drum machines. Gorillaz are a pretty good example of what’s possible. I have loads of drum machines …but for the op requirements I would definitely go with the beat buddy, and get the foot switch.
