Your Bass Journey - going nowhere without an amplifier!
Musicman666 replied to Gasman's topic in General Discussion
this one was weird because it had a 1x18 or 15 at the bottom and a 1x10 at the top ...so i got rid of the top one and converted it to a 2x15 or 18 ...cant remember now so long ago.... -
Your Bass Journey - going nowhere without an amplifier!

my first bass amp (vox t60 stack) that i used with a musicmaster .... i think it was built in 62...underpowered would be an understatement. followed by hh ..then peavey tnt115 (heavy as f) ..then an ebs drome and now i also have a phil jones double four which i think might have been louder than the vox... -
just curious what the price range might be these days ...thanks.

Sod’s Law… Dream bass is never going to appear!
Musicman666 replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
strange ...i tended to have a natural aversion to green guitars, they just didn't seem that rock and roll. Despite this I did however manage to pick up a fantastic playing green guitar at a heavy discount over the red option thinking that maybe i could always get it resprayed ... some thirty years later i still have it and it's still green but i love it very much ...still think about the red one though. -
er ...this thread started off as a full on rant ...let's keep it going ...i still think the mods at tb are a bunch of snowflakes and to hell with the consequences ...there i have said it.

not sure if anyone has posted about this yet but just in case i think there is another drop of new status basses coming soon ..the 40th anniversary edition, looks expensive. http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html

i remember seeing wang chung perform live for free at my university union bar ...it was pretty odd because there was only a few of us in there sitting around drinking and chatting at the time when suddenly unannounced they just start playing in the corner as a three piece with this drummer ...i guess it must have been some kind of low key warmup ... they did quite a good version of lucy in the sky with diamonds which i'm pretty sure was what led them on to create dance hall days which clearly has the same kind of guitar work going on inside it.

is this the five minute argument or the full half hour?

i started off in the 80s with a fretless wal and mwahed it like there was no tommorow... i now have three fretless all lined but my latest custom made one has faded lines that only i can really see which i thought was a great compromise. Also as part of the same custom purchase i had the exact same bass but fretted and both these are drop d tuning which is another compromise between a four and a five since i rarely went lower than a low d. As said here earlier you don't have to sound like pino to play a fretless ...as time goes on my fretless playing has become way more subtle in that regard but there is something about a very tiny bit of slide up to the note that gives it a great note quality that fretted can't really do, i often punch and slap mixed in with a regular play style all within one bar ... kind of levin meets enwhistle all on the fretless ... i guess it's my own personal style that's evolved over the years but it was the fretless that took me down that path. What is quite useful is having the same bass both fretted and fretless and auditioning them when laying down track ideas ...i can definitely see myself culling all my other basses save for these two. interestingly both sting and jack bruce often played their fretless like a fretted..

well i just got a warning for being abusive on that site ... in truth i didn't think it was that bad but i guess some snowflake saw otherwise ... problem is that they keep spamming my email account with threads that i might be interested in .. so i drop in with some throwaway comment and then i get flack for unsolicited opinions...??? so i just blocked them and that is that case closed.

during the 70s there were no real rules as such, punk came and after that maybe it was my age but things started to polarise a lot, but now i'm a lot older im open to anything, no preconceptions ...hell i even like some country (rolling stones helped with that one). Well i say everything but there is one type of music i can honestly say i can never get behind to this day and that is doom metal ...i look at people enjoying and i think wow there must be something there that im missing but nope can't do it ...it literally sounds like noise ...industrial ambient or neil youngs arc sound melodic in comparison...i guess it must be me.

me also ...he has so much to listen to. -
with me it has always been a search for the one, so all my basses and guitars are all in a long term audition to impress me and at some point (hopefully before i die) I'm kicking them all out except for the winners...the creme de la creme.

with that stoop there is always a future for him in a new order tribute band.

saw them loads of times but the standout gig was easily glastonbury 86 and even bob smith agrees with this one mainly because of the weather, the cure came on during one of the most cinematic reddest sunsets and as the gig kicked into high gear suddenly a full on dramatic lightening storm erupted directly above our heads ...the band played on with god now in charge of the light show, the whole effect was sheer gothic perfection.

this thread reminds me of chris greene of the fdp ... it was an honour to be banned.

been listening to this track a lot lately ...im a bit of a mick karn fan so im wondering just how much japan must have listened to this or visa versa as quiet life was released a few months prior. I think this too sounds like a wal. i would be most interested If anyone can tell me who did play bass on this one as this info seems to be missing from the wikipedia page or anywhere else i look. -
yeah i answered an add there once during lockdown...appeared to be an ok match location wise for some experimental song collaboration but guy chickened out as soon as i mentioned i was heavily into 80s type stuff as that was my era, in fact he came clean and said he was between guitars at the moment so he was no longer in the market?? looking at the wording of the add again i was beginning to wonder if it wasn't all just some veiled front for a pickup ...he mentioned age of musicians wasn't important, the younger the better although he himself was quite old but had a lot of energy..... which on reflection might have been a bit of a red flag.
