    pmt was ok ...i bought a squire and even had a couple of basses worked on plus strings and pedals ..i think there is now no other option for me other than online.

    would have thought they might have relocated the operation outside of the uk ..the brand is strong and quality can be maintained if the will is there, the days of asia producing rubbish are behind us.

    yellow brick road by elton john has some excellent playing and tones on it by dee murray.

    having a larger war chest just means you can pick from a wider selection of basses ...it doesn't mean you have to blow 1500 quid for the sake of blowing it but generally the more you blow the nicer it gets however there will be exceptions.

    interesting you should say that ...on first hearing i was also a bit put off by the gratuitous distortion but my god does it grow on you to the point that my appreciation of bass tone has evolved somewhat.

    a lot of the stranglers bass sound is also tied up in how you attack the strings and how you play ..in the 80s i used to get quite a few comments after gigs about how i sounded like jjb even though we were playing our own stuff and my rig wasn't set up specifically to sound like him...

    derek was a huge influence on me .. it's a shame he doesn't get back together with the old band, bearing in mind all the early stuff was structurally started on the bass ..the guy who plays bass with them today does not do the early basslines justice at all in my opinion.

    geddy was a huge entwistle fan from the get go so the two go hand in hand in my mind..

    i was seriously into rush in the 70s ..even caught a couple of their early hammy odeon shows then after moving pictures came out which was amazing they went all genesis 80s meltdown on me ...about then i jumped ship into the cure bunnymen etc etc...

    i sometimes pm current adds of similar basses that have sold recently just to try and bring a degree of sanity into the negotiation ... it rarely has the desired effect.
