I resurrected my Sue Ryder P today. I've had it a while (bought it new when they were 1st mentioned). In case you forgot (how could you), the neck was defective so I fitted a Mighty Mite Fender P clone. I also obtained a cheap pearl scratch plate and some CTS pots with a harness. I fitted the scratch plate after filing many lumps out of it and wired in the new pots and harness. While trying to fit the original Chinese push fit knob onto the volume pot I badly damaged the pot by pushing its innards right through I've have a new pot for months but the bass has just sat around needing attention. I've got an interview at a residential school for autistic teenage boys next week and playing in a band is a popular pastime. I thought that it would be good to have something I can throw about if I get a job. I wired in the new pot this morning and set the bass up. Trouble is both pots were acting as volume :confused: I got a wiring diagram from the interweb and it was completely different to my set up so I rewired the lot. It works really well, sounds just like a P should, no longer resembles a Sue Ryder bass and it need 2 more knobs (it's already got one ). It doesn't hold up very well to close scrutiny but it'll do I'm not overly keen on the white pup but it sounds good so it'll have to do. New BadAss's can be fairly unobtainium at the moment I believe. There's always Babicz from Bass direct. I rate the Gotoh 201 higher than a BadAss myself. Pickup 1st I'd say, then wiring & pots. Finally bridge. Peter

Sure, the woods used and the contruction of the instrument do affect tone. If the string vibrates with altered overtones then the pickup will respond differently. But in my opinion and experience this influence is minimal. The overwhelming influence is the pickup and electrics. Witness people who've made a bass out of a lump of aluminium and guess what, it sounded just like a bass, perhaps even a little 'woody'. Peter.

Bass of the day for me was probably the Moth. If it were fretted I'd be pleading with Alan to let me have it (yes I know there's a queue Dave ). Did anyone actually get around to counting how many ACG's had 'come home'? I wonder what Alan feels like when confronted with all his history? Peter

Well, having gone up a day early to miss the snow and stayed on a day for the same reason I'm finally home. It was a little dicey in the final couple of miles as I thought it may be but the thaw was on and I made it. Best ever no doubt! The friendly atmosphere was a credit to all. My non bass friends who were staying in the hotel over the road came along for an hour and were bemused, amused and enchanted at the same time by this odd gathering. What with looking after them, listening to the band and being terrified as my Basseokey spot neared my camera was severely neglected but I'll check out the results. Thanks go to everyone who was there and took part in some great bassy banter. Especial thanks go to Alan, Dave, Shaun and the band and especially Lihnnie for those great cakes Peter

I would suggest you include EAD cabs in your list. I'm biased as Dave is a friend but I don't think you'll find a better 3 way 2 x 12. If you're near to Chorley you could check em out too. http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/ Peter

I bought a replacement Skyline neck from Lakland in the States and it was less than that.

I'm sorry but I don't see where all this negativity comes from. The guy is playing his bass and having a ball. He's brave enough to put himself out there and share, all good imo Peter
