1. I'm over the moon with the pictures Alan from ACG Guitars sent me today. I'm off to Moffat tomorrow to collect my salace. The specs are: Black Walnut body with American Holly top and 4 mm Bloodwood accent. 5 piece Wenge/Bloodwood neck with Acrylic Impregnated Birdseye finger board. ACG RFB and PB pickups in a single Bloodwood ramp. East U-Retro pre-amp. The pickups are a P and an MM housed in the one wooden casing, electronics are a John East U-Retro Deluxe. Spacing is 15mm and scale length 34". The coin is a sovereign, set into the body. It was My late Mum's and I wanted to have it somewhere I would remember her regularly. The whole bass is spec'd with her in mind. 2. Re the EQ also get used to what the 5 way switch does for your tone and use it as opposed to tweaking the EQ once it's in the 'ballpark'. If you find the strap lock screws a bit loose and likely to rip out it's no biggie (my Sterling has chrome Schallers fitted from new). Simply shave down a matchstick or two and insert them into the hole with some PVA glue and you have a secure and invisible repair.
3. Amended. It's a 2 x 12 neo cab. 500W. Peter
4.
Oh and I never play the intro. The guitarist always has that down anyway.
Me too
5. Here's some shots of the pearl white Sterling 5. As you can see it is mint and still has the bar code sticker on the rear - I'm louth to remove it The rear of the headstock isn't so mint but the lack of neck dive transforms it's playability: Peter
6. I of course need to do the photo bit too.
7. I've been waiting on fitting some chrome Hipshot Ultralites to my pearl white Sterling 5 before I put some images up on this thread. I fitted them this week and so long as you don't look at the rear of the headstock the bass is now perfect. The dive I experienced was probably down to the lightness of the body as much as the heaviness of the neck (which has the same dimensions as the Stingray 5). Anyhow I weighed it today. 8.2 lbs. Result!!
8. I owned one and sold it to someone on here. Beautiful Jazz and a bargain too.
9.
The problem I have is that I don't have a camera other than my phone. It IS something I've been asked for before so let's just say it's in the pipeline...
Come on Dave get it sorted! Don't forget the wedge in the double neck, both neck thru of course and get the body dyed purple. I love watching a fight, my money's on the Scot though Peter
10. I was chatting with our Rhythym guitarist about the difficulties we're having in getting a definite song list set up for our band. Months have passed and we feel no nearer to any definite direction. The lead guitarist (who is very good) is also a noted artist with a successful career of work behind him. My friend was saying that he considers himself more a technician than an artist, preferring to have a list of songs to learn and bring along to practice, not really enjoying improvisation, solos or 'on the spot' 'jams'. On reflection I realise I'm exactly the same. The lead guitarist is so very different and brings new songs/ditches songs you've spent hours learning at zero notice. So what sort of bass player are you? An artist or a technician or perhaps something else? Peter
11. Beautiful Ken Smith you have there . Welcome back
12. Apologies to you Steve and I've replied to your pm. It's just sold to a friend. I do have a very good 2 x 12 I'm not needing if you're desperate but it's a 4 ohm cab. Peter
13.
Yes I think that they look a lot better than Barefaced and I think have some really good thought behind them too. There are reasons why I would want to try these but needless to say they would not be replacing my Berg's!!
They aren't 'painted grey'. The finish isn't just a grey paint but a sprayed on heavy duty coating. What makes you think that these can't be better than bergs? Peter
14. pm'd also Peter
15.
Really liking the look of these cabs - how much are they going to sell for and do you have any retailers stocking them? Would be keen to try them out.
Dave's website is here: http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/ I've got a Foundation 212 and it's superb. Dave will probably be along in a bit but I think the 112's are working their way through the last of the prototype stages and I'm not sure if prices are up for them yet. I think he's going to do them is 3 'builds', 3 way, 2 way and single driver. Some prototypes will be at Bass day in manchester and London. The prices aren't 'economy' prices but when you factor in the build quality, finish, components (great crossovers) and of course, sound quality I think they're hard to beat. Dave's a mate and yes I'm biased but I'm also in a position to know what a talented and nice guy he is. Peter
16. It is Martin. Sadly it's never been used as plans came to nought Peter
17. In very good condition with TE cover, collection only from Kendal or NW. £85 Photos to follow.
18. I love basses made from beautiful woods. But, the aluminium bass showed pretty damn clearly what a lot of people, including some worthy luthiers have been saying for some time. That the 'woody' tone is little associated with wood and much more with a string and a pickup As for nut material?????? Peter
19. I've just had the pleasure of dealing with Gareth. Great experience in top Basscaht tradition. Thanks fine fella Peter
20. I was just reacting to the perceived whiff of slightly racist attitude. My stuff, mustn't bite. I'd have thought that EB would have been into well dodgy territory employing illegal immigrants? However good that may be (and prepared to work for lower wages).
21. Hang on a minute, are we saying that all 'real' Americans and English folk are white Anglo Saxons? The US and United Kingdom are multi cultural societies and US citizens include a fair few people who originated in Mexico I would imagine. I actually reckon that EBMM quality is higher and more consistent than Fender but they are also more expensive. Being American they are far less likely to respond to criticism in any constructive way. It reminds me of the now non existent British motorcycle industry who had the same attitude, and died in the face of Japanese competition.
22. I didn't realise that you were in Oz Steve Peter
23. Well, well, well. We do learn all the time don't we. ACG's are great basses but I acknowledge that not everyone likes the filter pre amp. It takes a whole new approach to creating a tone as you like it. Maybe get lag to put a John East U Retro in it? Peter
24. Very nice. A stunning example of Bernie's work. Peter
25.
TRB1000 series are made in Korea. not Taiwan.. the TRB P's are very high end Yamahas with a P pickup and a jazz pup, with a piezo.. im such a geek...
I'm no geek but it's the TRB5P (and 4P?) that have the P pup, the 6Pers have two soap bar jazz pickups, single coil or otherwise depending on the year. I had a TRB5P once but it went and I wish it hadn't -
