1.
The problem I have is that I don't have a camera other than my phone. It IS something I've been asked for before so let's just say it's in the pipeline...
Come on Dave get it sorted! Don't forget the wedge in the double neck, both neck thru of course and get the body dyed purple. I love watching a fight, my money's on the Scot though Peter
2. I was chatting with our Rhythym guitarist about the difficulties we're having in getting a definite song list set up for our band. Months have passed and we feel no nearer to any definite direction. The lead guitarist (who is very good) is also a noted artist with a successful career of work behind him. My friend was saying that he considers himself more a technician than an artist, preferring to have a list of songs to learn and bring along to practice, not really enjoying improvisation, solos or 'on the spot' 'jams'. On reflection I realise I'm exactly the same. The lead guitarist is so very different and brings new songs/ditches songs you've spent hours learning at zero notice. So what sort of bass player are you? An artist or a technician or perhaps something else? Peter
3. Beautiful Ken Smith you have there . Welcome back
4. Apologies to you Steve and I've replied to your pm. It's just sold to a friend. I do have a very good 2 x 12 I'm not needing if you're desperate but it's a 4 ohm cab. Peter
5.
Yes I think that they look a lot better than Barefaced and I think have some really good thought behind them too. There are reasons why I would want to try these but needless to say they would not be replacing my Berg's!!
They aren't 'painted grey'. The finish isn't just a grey paint but a sprayed on heavy duty coating. What makes you think that these can't be better than bergs? Peter
6. pm'd also Peter
7.
Really liking the look of these cabs - how much are they going to sell for and do you have any retailers stocking them? Would be keen to try them out.
Dave's website is here: http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/ I've got a Foundation 212 and it's superb. Dave will probably be along in a bit but I think the 112's are working their way through the last of the prototype stages and I'm not sure if prices are up for them yet. I think he's going to do them is 3 'builds', 3 way, 2 way and single driver. Some prototypes will be at Bass day in manchester and London. The prices aren't 'economy' prices but when you factor in the build quality, finish, components (great crossovers) and of course, sound quality I think they're hard to beat. Dave's a mate and yes I'm biased but I'm also in a position to know what a talented and nice guy he is. Peter
8. It is Martin. Sadly it's never been used as plans came to nought Peter
9. In very good condition with TE cover, collection only from Kendal or NW. £85 Photos to follow.
10. I love basses made from beautiful woods. But, the aluminium bass showed pretty damn clearly what a lot of people, including some worthy luthiers have been saying for some time. That the 'woody' tone is little associated with wood and much more with a string and a pickup As for nut material?????? Peter
11. I've just had the pleasure of dealing with Gareth. Great experience in top Basscaht tradition. Thanks fine fella Peter
12. I was just reacting to the perceived whiff of slightly racist attitude. My stuff, mustn't bite. I'd have thought that EB would have been into well dodgy territory employing illegal immigrants? However good that may be (and prepared to work for lower wages).
13. Hang on a minute, are we saying that all 'real' Americans and English folk are white Anglo Saxons? The US and United Kingdom are multi cultural societies and US citizens include a fair few people who originated in Mexico I would imagine. I actually reckon that EBMM quality is higher and more consistent than Fender but they are also more expensive. Being American they are far less likely to respond to criticism in any constructive way. It reminds me of the now non existent British motorcycle industry who had the same attitude, and died in the face of Japanese competition.
14. I didn't realise that you were in Oz Steve Peter
15. Well, well, well. We do learn all the time don't we. ACG's are great basses but I acknowledge that not everyone likes the filter pre amp. It takes a whole new approach to creating a tone as you like it. Maybe get lag to put a John East U Retro in it? Peter
16. Very nice. A stunning example of Bernie's work. Peter
17.
TRB1000 series are made in Korea. not Taiwan.. the TRB P's are very high end Yamahas with a P pickup and a jazz pup, with a piezo.. im such a geek...
I'm no geek but it's the TRB5P (and 4P?) that have the P pup, the 6Pers have two soap bar jazz pickups, single coil or otherwise depending on the year. I had a TRB5P once but it went and I wish it hadn't -
18.
TRB6p's are not made in taiwan.. does it say "made in taiwan on the bass..?? i dont know of any early 6p thats made in that country. be very aware that far eastern bass copies are very close to the original... i saw a Jens Ritter bass from China, and i sh*t you not, from the detailed pic, i could not tell the difference, and im a nerd when it comes to basses.. i know my TRB's and im pretty sure your bass may be wrong un got any pics?
If it's labelled as being made in that Taiwanese factory I'd be interested to know where the label is or how you got this information? TRB1006's and TRB1005's were made there I believe but they are a long way from a TRB6 and even further remote from a 6P. I'd really like a 34" scale TRB5, may place an ad in the wanted section hmmm...... Peter
19. Hmmm an early 90's 6P from Korea? Seems odd to my knowledge. I love my 6P and I'm fairly sure it's Japanese made and thought they all were. Mine's a 2EQ. I'd like to know more about these basses although I've owned 5 TRBs over the years including my 1st 'real' bass a new TRB4 Mk1 bought in 1995. Peter
20. I still had 2 of these Bass collection straps knocking around, both with cable ties fitted on every link as an extra precaution. I fitted one to my newly acquired TRB6P and guess what, the leather at the end tore through and I caught the bass on it's way to the floor Both straps went straight in the bin and a proper Mono strap is now in place on the Yamaha.
21. Dave helped me out with my 4P to 2P Speakon for a bridged power amp and the cable arrived with some Klotz instrument cables that I ordered in quick time. As ever, quality service from a decent bloke. Peter
22. It's THE Bass Bash too by my reckoning
23. Sorry to hear of your woes and I'm hoping that it's sorted to your satisfaction. I would imagine that having 'invested' so much time planning the specs and waiting for the bass it's doubly frustrating. I think we can get lost in the custom vs Fender/MM/Sadowsky debate. They are all just basses, some good some not so. In the mix they usually sound 'just like a bass' and many of the punters don't know the difference between a bass and a 6 string anyway. I owned the lovely 'Rita' (an orange Sterling known to some of us) and fitted a Nordstrand pickup in her, much to the disgust of the EBMM crowd. The Ric forum is the same and it seems many Americans are blind to the possibility that their products aren't perfect every time. Patriotism gone mad or over sensitive insecurity? I've a Sterling 5 HS now and it is quite beautiful, it's light and sounds great and will probably be my main gigging bass BUT, it's slightly but significantly neck heavy (I'm not good with neck heavy basses). It's presently parked up until some Ultralites arrive and I'm fairly sure that they will restore the balance (although the rear of the headstock will be a mess of holes). I've had precious little comment on the EBMM forum although I expected to be told I was mistaken. This problem isn't unique to my Sterling 5 either. So they are obviously happy for unbalanced instruments to walk out of the factory.
24. Wow, that is stunningly beautiful and yes I too wonder what the technical features contribute to it's tone. It is refreshing to see someone departing from the more conventional.
