i have, was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem, not knocking the product at all, its great, i was more worried about my install abilities lol
I'm glad you contacted him 1st and sorry if I seemed abrupt. That spring is important btw. Peter

Have you asked the most important person first? i.e. you really should get in touch with John before putting it up here imo You'll find him in the affiliates section. Peter

I would turn the question on it's head and say what's the purpose of a top cut away if your technique is 'good'? Single cuts are heavy if heavy wood is used to make them, just like conventionally styled basses. As for neck rigidity, it must effect tone as the string vibrates, more than nut or fingerboard material would be my guess. I've owned 2, both ACGs and both have been quite light and sounded superb. I think ACG make the nicest looking single cuts too But hey I'm biased - I sold this to Chris as I play a five nowadays Peter
Also, if your technique is thumb in centre of the neck, you can play them with no problem.
Absolutely! And the neck/body rigidity is increased if that's an issue for you.

I bought a Kingbass 5 from someone who didn't keep it long. It didn't matter what it sounded like but I struggled to play it, ergonomically it was a nightmare and I do have my basses quite high. The guy I sold it to sold it on in no time at all as he couln't get on with the ergonomics either. The tiny body meant that the neck was shunted left away from my body. I couldn't fret the 1st few strings properly at all and I tried it mounted very high too just like the man himself. I'm 5' 10" and have fairly long arms too, longer than MK's. Definately try one for a reasonable period of time before you buy (I didn't but wouldn't touch another). Peter
Martin Kemp (Eastenders) was the bass player with Spandau Ballet. Those of us over 30 will know this already but younger BCr's may not. For the record, he has had 49 film and tv acting jobs whilst SB produced only 7 albums and was acting before he played bass. I guess that makes him an actor!!
Doesn't he have a murder conviction as well? Or am I confusing him with someone else?
Peter, what's the string spacing up at the nut end (and the neck width)? Also, how would you describe the neck depth? (I'm still enjoying your old Oly AV '62, but am thinking about giving a 5 stringer a go.)
The bass is, I'm fairly certain, sold. I'll update if it falls through for any reason. That AV 62 is one hellava bass for sure
I'm assuming 15mm centre to centre? Was that unusual for a Status bass? For some reason I'd always associated 17.5mm and upwards with Status 5-ers. At 15mm though, this is quite interesting. Can you tell me the scale length? With Status headless models I'd always assumed 34", and headed models 34.75". Edit: And is the mini-toggle switch an active/passive switch or a cut/boost control?
Yes as you'd expect from from a Status headless it's a 34" scale. The toggle switch is a mid cut boost and works very well in that respect. 15mm centre to centre was a normal option back in the late 80's when I believe this bass emerged from the Colchester factory. 15mm was a bit of a revelation for me. Very nice tone WoT. I'm wondering what one of these would be like through my new EAD cab. I love a warmer yet lower mid biased tone. My other half and I have diagonally opposed taste in music (she thinks jazz it 'out of tune') and she loves these tracks. I admit I quite like em too. Which band is it ? Peter
I guess you're wanting to sell as a whole rather than split, Peter? Something rather alluring about those cabs....
To be honest Martin yes it's easier to sell it together but with this rig the sum is definitely greater than the parts. I reckon that the impedance of the two 112's is nearer 2 ohms than 4 and the amp thrives on this. Peter

Thank you. I suspect that TC aren't the only company gilding the lilly

Just been reading your opening post and I'd like to say thank you for going through the history of Bernie's basses. I've always admired them but never had my hands on one. Peter

I've been reading through most of this thread and while I'm not at the moment a gigging bassist we do practice pretty damn loud (to compete with our lead guitarist) and I was never entirely at one with my RH and went back to LM. My thoughts aren't so much 'naughty TC lying' but wondering just how subjective or precise the measurement of wattage is. A question for the experts, how is wattage measured, obviously not by power consumed because there are efficiency factors to take into account? What I'm saying is, is it just TC who've been caught or are other manufacturers up to similar tricks to win buyers? Peter

The nice thing about the 3 way cabs is the ability to attenuate up to 100% not just the tweeter but also the mid driver. In fact it's possible to do a smiley using the cab alone.
