1. I've been reading through most of this thread and while I'm not at the moment a gigging bassist we do practice pretty damn loud (to compete with our lead guitarist) and I was never entirely at one with my RH and went back to LM. My thoughts aren't so much 'naughty TC lying' but wondering just how subjective or precise the measurement of wattage is. A question for the experts, how is wattage measured, obviously not by power consumed because there are efficiency factors to take into account? What I'm saying is, is it just TC who've been caught or are other manufacturers up to similar tricks to win buyers? Peter
2.
URGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Is there a good reason not to buy this?
None I can see
3. A gentle Status shaped bump for this bass
4. All's well here Alan. How are things down South? I've gone and bought one of Dave P's EAD cabs, hopefully give it a proper test this week. Using it with a Markbass F1 head. Peter
5. Is that a 450 Ducati I spy there Mike?
6. The nice thing about the 3 way cabs is the ability to attenuate up to 100% not just the tweeter but also the mid driver. In fact it's possible to do a smiley using the cab alone.
7. Thanks Alex I'm glad you appreciate it I don't want a long drawn out sale I'd just like to see it go to a good home.
8.
Thats a lot of bass for the money...!! Cant imagine it will be up for long....
What he said
9. I realise that they are very new to the market but you could have a look at Dave Perry's 3 way EAD cabs Bob. You have the option then of attenuating the mid ranged driver and the tweeter to suit your requirements. They are built to Dave's very high standards and if you were at the Moffat Bass Bash (I think you were) you may know how good his prototype sounded in the back to back comparisons. Yes I'm a fan and Dave's a friend but regardless they are well worth a look. http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/ Peter
10. My old rig, an EA iAmp 800 (the model with the built in Sabine tuner) 4 EQ parametric in good and fully functional condition and two CXL 112 cabs (one is an EV and one a 'II' but they are both 8 ohm and have a tweeter and pair magnificently). The cabs are in very good condition too and include Roqsolid covers. The head is currently in a Gator hard case as per the photo. This rig functions superbly as is. The cabs actual impedance is less than 8 ohms, an EA anomaly that means that some heads can overheat or cut out (Markbass). The head goes down to 2 ohms so suits the cabs perfectly. This is one very articulately sounding rig for the bargain price of £600 collected. I can meet up or deliver a reasonable distance. I even have a spare concentric tweeter if I can lay a finger on it. Peter
11.
Love that bass Peter! I'd be asking to meet you halfway (again) had I not just bought myself a lovely Series II. It seems we both love Status and ACG basses! I'm still in love with my Harlot singlecut, it's definitely my favourite bass although I have been thinking of ordering a new one lately for fun! Out of interest, can you remember the type and gauge of strings that the Harlot had on when I bought it from you? They were very good strings!
I'm not sure of the gauge Chris but they were either DR Sunbeams if nickel or SITs if s/s. Glad the harlot is still feeling the love, it's a very nice bass Peter
12. Thanks for the bumps guys. I've said that I'd rather it be collected or I deliver within reason but if you want it delivered of course it can be done. Peter
13. I'll update on the white pearl, a favourite of mine if it's sparkly too
14. I've been out of the BC loop for ages but it's good to see that the 'special' nature of this bass is universal. As I said, I really would jump on it if I could justify a 4. I've bought the white Sterling 5 HS a couple of days ago too partly from this Sterling experience and partly from owning a Bongo HS some years back. Go for it John Peter
15. It's 15mm. Narrower that the norm but once I acclimatised I found it great, hence my Salace will have 15mm spacing too.
16. I'm pretty sure that I owned this bass quite a while. Honestly one of the few I really miss. If I didn't play 5's nowadays I'd jump at this. Does it have a Nordy pup still? Peter
17. I've been meaning to 'thin the herd' for a while but an incoming bass means that I've been jolted into action. This is a very nice example of Mr Green's work and is in good overall condition for it's age. No major dings just the usual swirls and marks on the rear as you can hopefully see from the photos. The wings are burr madrone. The bass plays really well and all the electronics are sound. This bass is the inspiration for my custom ACG Salace, that's how good it is. It's also a true neck through bass. Controls are: Master Volume Pickup Balance Active Circuit - Bass - cut / boost +/-10dB at 50Hz - Treble - ciut / boost +/-14dB at 10KHz - Parametric Midrange Control +/-10db fully variable between 300Hz and 3KHz - Midrange control switch (Boost, Flat, Cut) Pickups - Two Hyperactive HR High Resolution Pickups 2 x 9 volt PP3 batteries with easy access compartments. I'm prefer collection or I'm happy to deliver or meet up half way. Will come with a decent gig bag I think that £900 is a good price. Oops, nearly forgot the photos, can take more/better if requested. Viewing and questions welcomed. Peter
18. Best post I've read in a while, great stuff. Wilko too
19.
Ay caramba!! That is one stunning looking bass! I have a narrow width nut bass for sale, sadly I'd not be able to afford the £1200 cash adjustment I second the East (or other) pre-amp suggestion. The pre-amp can really make or break an active bass...there's some great ones out there if the stock pre-amp doesn't cut the mustard.
If you do some research both here and on Talkbass you'll find that the ACG filter pre amp certainly 'cuts the mustard'. It's a very different approach to tone control, creating it more than just shaping it in my opinion and not everyone is prepared to learn to use it and yes, I'll admit it doesn't suit all. But it's not a below par pre amp, don't assume that. Bump for a great looking bass. Peter
20.
Who needs a B?
It's not the B but the extra E to A I'd be lost without
21.
Then I would have sniped it before you
Likely true
22. It's been said before I know but if this was a 5........
23. Things have moved on at a pace now: Peter
24.
christ how is this still here at this price, thats under half what they are new now!!!! Someone buy this beaut, for this money....well even new they punch well above their weight for the price. get it bought someone..
I too can't believe this hasn't been snapped up long ago.
