I realise that they are very new to the market but you could have a look at Dave Perry's 3 way EAD cabs Bob. You have the option then of attenuating the mid ranged driver and the tweeter to suit your requirements. They are built to Dave's very high standards and if you were at the Moffat Bass Bash (I think you were) you may know how good his prototype sounded in the back to back comparisons. Yes I'm a fan and Dave's a friend but regardless they are well worth a look. http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk/ Peter

My old rig, an EA iAmp 800 (the model with the built in Sabine tuner) 4 EQ parametric in good and fully functional condition and two CXL 112 cabs (one is an EV and one a 'II' but they are both 8 ohm and have a tweeter and pair magnificently). The cabs are in very good condition too and include Roqsolid covers. The head is currently in a Gator hard case as per the photo. This rig functions superbly as is. The cabs actual impedance is less than 8 ohms, an EA anomaly that means that some heads can overheat or cut out (Markbass). The head goes down to 2 ohms so suits the cabs perfectly. This is one very articulately sounding rig for the bargain price of £600 collected. I can meet up or deliver a reasonable distance. I even have a spare concentric tweeter if I can lay a finger on it.
Love that bass Peter! I'd be asking to meet you halfway (again) had I not just bought myself a lovely Series II. It seems we both love Status and ACG basses! I'm still in love with my Harlot singlecut, it's definitely my favourite bass although I have been thinking of ordering a new one lately for fun! Out of interest, can you remember the type and gauge of strings that the Harlot had on when I bought it from you? They were very good strings!
I'm not sure of the gauge Chris but they were either DR Sunbeams if nickel or SITs if s/s. Glad the harlot is still feeling the love, it's a very nice bass Peter

I've been out of the BC loop for ages but it's good to see that the 'special' nature of this bass is universal. As I said, I really would jump on it if I could justify a 4. I've bought the white Sterling 5 HS a couple of days ago too partly from this Sterling experience and partly from owning a Bongo HS some years back. Go for it John Peter

I've been meaning to 'thin the herd' for a while but an incoming bass means that I've been jolted into action. This is a very nice example of Mr Green's work and is in good overall condition for it's age. No major dings just the usual swirls and marks on the rear as you can hopefully see from the photos. The wings are burr madrone. The bass plays really well and all the electronics are sound. This bass is the inspiration for my custom ACG Salace, that's how good it is. It's also a true neck through bass. Controls are: Master Volume Pickup Balance Active Circuit - Bass - cut / boost +/-10dB at 50Hz - Treble - ciut / boost +/-14dB at 10KHz - Parametric Midrange Control +/-10db fully variable between 300Hz and 3KHz - Midrange control switch (Boost, Flat, Cut) Pickups - Two Hyperactive HR High Resolution Pickups 2 x 9 volt PP3 batteries with easy access compartments. I'm prefer collection or I'm happy to deliver or meet up half way. Will come with a decent gig bag I think that £900 is a good price. Oops, nearly forgot the photos, can take more/better if requested. Viewing and questions welcomed. Peter
Ay caramba!! That is one stunning looking bass! I have a narrow width nut bass for sale, sadly I'd not be able to afford the £1200 cash adjustment I second the East (or other) pre-amp suggestion. The pre-amp can really make or break an active bass...there's some great ones out there if the stock pre-amp doesn't cut the mustard.
If you do some research both here and on Talkbass you'll find that the ACG filter pre amp certainly 'cuts the mustard'. It's a very different approach to tone control, creating it more than just shaping it in my opinion and not everyone is prepared to learn to use it and yes, I'll admit it doesn't suit all. But it's not a below par pre amp, don't assume that. Bump for a great looking bass. Peter

Mmmm.. Ebony - nice indeed but what's that bit of wood at the end?

Here's the general look I'm pursuing (with thanks to Sugden for stealing his render for his 6er): Body front, holly: Rear, contrasting walnut (and very light too): Bloodwood in the sandwich: Neck is 5 piece, wenge and bloodwood: Fingerboard is a stunning and busy piece of birdseye maple, acrylicised: The scale will be 34" with a 20" board radius. Both pickups will be mounted in a single bloodwood housing with a P to the neck and a MM to the bridge with near to conventional positioning. String spacing will be narrow at 15mm with custom black hardware and the electronics will be a U Retro Deluxe courtesy of John East. The neck will be set into the body. That's it Peter
Funny, because that's kind of the opposite journey to mine. I was listening to (not just hearing) bebop when I was 6, 7 or 8 years old. I knew who Ray Brown, Charlie Parker, Dizzy etc were earlier than that. I wanted to be Buddy Rich at the age of six or seven. Other than the Beatles (obviously) I couldn't have named a single musician in any rock or pop band. And yet strangely I happily enjoy "predictable" music, and as I grew older I grew to love it more and more. I remember hearing Deep Purple aged around 14 and thinking "damn that's simple....but it's fantastic!". I rate AC/DC or ABBA as high as any jazz artist I've ever heard; higher, probably. There's a tiny hint of the superior about your post. Ultimately your interesting can be another person's anything but and vice versa. At the point where someone feels that only more supposedly "sophisticated" music is better or more worthy, they really don't understand the beauty of music anymore IMO.
A 'tiny' bit?
