  1. How hard would it be to implement a set of compulsory fields to each bass for sale? Price, string count, scale length, active/passive would cover the biggest divisions.
  2. Do not underestimate the quality of dispersion. I was playing in a band where the lead guitar and I would often riff off one another. The 'stage' at one pub was just a bit wider and flatter and one time I took the 215 instead of 115 210 tall stack. He's struggling to hear what I am doing because he's on the far side and too wide of the 15's to get the tone, so he's working off bumpity bump bump bump only.
  3. As much as I dislike faceabook it might be the best place for current information. NZ has a national site ''Eventfinder''. I think it mines the internet as well as putting up small local current venue and the promoter gig announcements with ticket sales. Maybe UK has something similar. Everything from the local cat fanciers competition to art, comedy, open mics to pub gigs to big tour shows in stadiums.
  4. Send it back. No fan should be that noisy.
  5. In the case of selling their precious they are appealing to someone with similar preferences. If they are skiiting about it on a forum it's because they are proud of their efforts. Either way they are right. So your complaint comes down to semantics.
  6. Easy solution is avoid reading classifieds for non stock items and don't read forums dedicated to improvements of stock consumer items. 'Poof' no more unnecessary grief over what someone else is doing with their stuff or what they call improving that you don't. Simples.
  7. It's only a modification if it can't be readily put back to stock. Stating as such it is fair warning to the buyer to consider the value to them and potential resale. An upgrade may or may not involve modification. Again the buyer is free to consider the value. It's a major cottage industry swapping pickups. You'll have to come up with a new word that isn't modification or upgrading. 'Swapping' implies like for like with no increase of value, so that's out. Guess what, sellers figured out long ago the best word for it is in fact upgrade.
  8. Something tells me you never held a job in sales.
  9. The shipping could be quoted either way. Ordinarily the shipping cost would be quoted pre tax to make it simple to write X + Y + Z + shipping +VAT And thus account for the sale the same way, rather than messing around zero rating the VAT on the shipping charge.
  10. Isn't that their permanent condition though?
  11. When it is bumped by the poster with no post it becomes UNREAD,unless things were modified in one of the upgrades of late and I missed it.
  12. Talkbass forum is superior in this regard. Basses get listed by the number of strings AND left/right handedness. But no scale length. I guess sellers are mostly happy to put it in the title and buyers with eyes spot them and buy them. I find the weird BC bumping display system far more egregious. Put it back to the top every two days, but don't mark it as UNREAD!!!!
  13. Step 1, back off the bass on the Marshall.
  14. Off the top of my head I don't think my inate pitch would be good for better than a semi tone either side.
  15. Tbf I don't know that American authorities have quite got the hang of revenue generation from sales tax anywhere near like the UK.
  16. It's been well established by measurement already if you bothered to read the thread.
  17. Me, no, bargains like those aren't seen here. Maybe I could find a cheap enough bass that could work but amplification doesn't come cheap.
  18. Because some conspiracy theories hold water, this one is weird?
  19. You are the living proof that auditions cut both ways.
  20. Nah. I will walk you through moving the bridge your tomorrow evening if you like. You can take progress photos along the way. It'll be a piece of cake. Need masking tape, drill choices, a sharp pencil, your measuring tape, a clamp or two wouldn't go amiss but not necessary, the correct screwdriver for the bridge screws is essential, toothpicks.
  21. Ya reckon? There's loads of boutique brands that weren't mainstream 30 years ago. Fancy a Vanderklay or a Verellen or an Aguilar or a Handbox...
  22. Parallel describes situations additional to dual amplifiers driving discrete cabs off one signal. Parallel is also when two cabs are daisy chained to one amp. Often there are parallel outputs provided on amps for the purpose of not having to daisy chain cabs. The cabs are a parallel load.
  23. Philosophically, does one need to experience being far too freaking loud to appreciate being just loud enough? In my musical yoof we were just a bit too loud and we really had to get down on the Marshall stack guy to rein it in. The other guitarist was older and wiser and used a small combo mic'd into the PA. The young guy thought this was the devil's work. My Trace rig was as loud as it would go. The only other way would have been for me to get another cabinet, then we would have been way far too freaking loud for the pub. This is indeed loud enough for a pub. It's lovely when everyone is on the same wavelength. The dancers have enough to get them going and the non dancers can still converse without screaming in each other's ears. The booze flows and everyone has a great time. I used to help out the odd band with sound. One outfit had the whole band piped into the best PA in town in one of the smaller venues. They were very polished with very intricate tuneful in your face metal. One number in and all the faders except vocals were off. They brought in a steady stream of punters who left after one drink. If they had all stayed for two or three drinks the joint would have been hopping.
  24. Another valueless opinion: it looks like it has been there awhile. Even though it has apparently gone all the length of the body right the way through it hasn't fallen apart so I am voting paint distress patina also.
