That's a whole different song you're singing. OP has a complaint of too much low mid and not enough spank on the high end. I'm of the opinion turning those filters down to zero is a good place to start playing with the EQ. They are very powerful.

Flat for the filter knobs is off = 0 Many people assume incorrectly that noon in keeping with the EQ knobs is neutral. So that is why I point it out from time to time.

Turn the filters to 0/10 is a good start.

Some have a dodgy amp to chassis ground via a star washer that rusts. When that happens the amp blows up in a bad way. I think it's only on the bi-polar 'bear' version.

Dual band compression makes it an SMX, most likely a 250, being smaller than your MkV. Peavey really goofed when they left out the EQ Balance in the new stuff, if you ask me.

If memory serves, what you have there is a Series 6. If you don't need no fancy compressors I think the SMX might only impress by virtue of less weight, no less LAF. The 'EQ balance' is quite handy sometimes.

Most people put the tuner first. Comp before / after envelope is a personal choice. Generally an octave goes before other stuff so it always gets a clean signal. On the other hand you might like glitchy octave after envelope. Once you figure those out you can try inserting drivey stuff and see what you like.

Out of the way but where I can get to them. Given I usuually have little space to work with, and even less control over it, that is challenging sometimes. More usually preamp stuff is on top of the amp/ cab but all iterations are in the playbook.

If you are habitually digging in hard you are naturally extremely compressed right off the bat. The dynamic range between digging in hard(ish) and digging in (really) hard is a fraction of what's available.

On the other hand what I suggested originally is very doable. You find a inefficient bass driver and you could easily be 6dB less sensitive than your Bigfoot, right off the bat, ie same loudness with 4x the power. The tricky bit would be handling the 300W and discerning power tube breakup from speaker breaking.

You mentioned the amp was modded for the tubes it has in it now. I am guessing that would be for the heater current. Changing back to stock tubes would mean modding again and it would near as dammit make the same output on breakup.

If it's like all the other Trace combos I have seen the speaker wires finish out of the cab at a regular 1/4" jack plug that goes into one of two amp outs on the back of the amp. That being that case I would be confident your memory of an extra wire is faulty. Further if that is the case, you can put the tip of that lead to 9v battery -ve and shaft on +ve it should make the speaker jump outwards. Probably need a helper as unlikely there's enough lead to be faffing with the battery while observing the speaker at the same time.

A more easily reversible mod would be using half the power tubes. It's not as simple as pulling out one set, I think some resistors have to be changed as well, something like that, proceeed only with highly capable tech support.... English rockers used to do it with 100w Marshall scream machines to turn them into 50w Marshall scream machines. If they did that with one 12 instead of 4 it would have been quite effective.

There must be a 'body' attachment to go with end pin to stop it rotating under you. Ought to be enough pin adjustment for 6'4'' or a special order long pin available.
